Thriller worth watching!

I didn't like Cush Jumbo from the beginning, but dang, she did an excellent job all the way through.

Overall this kept me hanging in 'til the end and it was worth it. Well written Coben story. Very good camera work and editing. Mostly good performances and a LOT of surprises. 8 is good to get by me.

As expected, but with a twist

I'll try to avoid spoilers. The actor who played Broome stole the show.

The Wonder Twins will have you saying "wait, what?!" A lot of stuff rushed through to get to the ending.

The Ray and Cassie characters continue to make very dumb choices that will leave the audience raging, and no one finds the dead cop in the precinct until three days later....

It be nice to get a what happened to some of the characters (Goldberg's daughter, the Flynn family, the killer, etc) But all in all good ending with a fun little twist.

And Broome, man.... just read James Nesbitt was nominated for the IFTA Award for best actor. Man was robbed.

A few surprises

The killer was pretty predictable, just based on the circumstances. But a few of the details, wow, not expected. Great acting and storyline, glad to see all loose ends tied up.

Episode 8

Warning: Spoilers
Stay Close finally concludes. Ken and Barbie suddenly become destructible.

She gets involved in a knife fight with Megan and comes off second best.

Ken decides he has an easy prey to pump information out of. He oo gets a surprise and so does Broome.

By the end it comes as a little surprise as to who the main culprit is despite some convoluted storytelling.

The confession explains almost everything and speaks about toxic masculinity. It was the only way the police were going to crack the case or else they would have had to arrest every man in Blackpool.

At least Broome finds out who did hire Ken and Barbie and why.

Stay Close does have a coda, a few additional twists. Pacing was certainly a problem, this could had been done in half the time.

[7.5] Practice and mischievousness
cjonesas2 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 8: Finally deciding to wrap it up cause that was the last episode! Some straightforward and unexpected twists and turns, but with good acting, especially by the main culprit who showed mischievous mentality and steel nerves, cause that was enjoyable for h** as told!

The main problem is that (almost) no connection is made by the viewer with the characters and that they are more or less unrelatable. Some more than the others.

So it goes for the plots, main and side ones, which are not smoothly connected and as such, don't present a coherent and pleasurably smooth experience, even for a crime/drama show.

It finishes, but not on a high note.

Show, don't tell

This episode is a great example of why writing teachers caution their students against exposition dumps. I guess writers still do it because it salves their ego to bamboozle the audience with an incoherent mess of events and contradictory information.
