A love letter to Santiago
tarascopablo26 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Cuba has a very rich and interesting history that includes Spanish conquistadores, good relations with the US during the war between Spain and America in 1896 and then a thriving economy in the years before the Revolution led by Castro. Then, Cuba became an obsession for both Russians and Americans as it was considered an strategic location so during the cold war Cuba was a international spy center.

Cubans themselves are a mixture of many cultures coming from Latin America, North America, Europe and Africa and all of this cultures find themselves intricately woven in the very fabric of what it means to be Cuban.

In this short, Sara Gómez -the first woman director in the history of Cuba, explains briefly the history of Santiago and follows the day to day activities, demonstrating that indeed Santiago -and Cuba- are filled with many different traditions and cultures that Santiagueños took as their own.

The technical aspects of the short might not be the best, but the story itself is one of a love letter to what was, what is and what could be.
