WWE Star Calls Dwayne Johnson a “Lazy Motherf*cker” and His Bold Prediction About The Rock Came True
WWE fans were left disappointed after the People’s Champion Dwayne Johnson, who recently became a member of The Bloodline, failed to make an appearance at the 2024 Elimination Chamber: Perth Premium Live Event. It seems that the WWE star Finn Bálor had an idea about Johnson’s intentions for the event and didn’t hold back in taking a jab at the legendary wrestler.
Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam
While his remarks on The Rock left many with surprise, considering his stature in the world of wrestling, it seems Bálor prediction about Johnson came true as the Hollywood star was indeed absent from the WWE event.

Metallica won Best Metal Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 4th) for their song “72 Seasons,” the title track to their 2023 album. The trophy was handed out during the streaming “Premiere Ceremony,” with bassist Robert Trujillo accepting on the band’s behalf.
With boyngeius and Paramore dominating the other rock categories, Metallica were the only heavy act to win a Grammy this year. The legendary metal act beat out Disturbed, Ghost, Slipknot, and Spiritbox for the honor. Overall, Metallica have now won nine Grammy awards, the most by any metal band.
“I just want to say that Lars, James, and Kirk could not be here because they’re with their families, and families are everything to all of us,” began Trujillo during his acceptance speech. “I live in Southern California, so it’s a little easier.”
He added, “We want to thank Greg Fidelman, our incredible producer, and our recording team.

Who shall we say is calling? On a new rendition of Leonard Cohen’s nearly half-century–old folk-rock classic “Who by Fire,” it’s Skinny Pelembe and Beth Orton. The duo’s breathy performance adds a sense of desperation and urgency to the track, which appeared on Cohen’s 1974 LP, New Skin for the Old Ceremony. There’s also a chilly element of mystery to the staggered way Orton and Skinny Pelemebe, whose real name is Doya Beardmore, build it out into shouting at the end.

Three months from now, the Weeknd might just have an Emmy to place alongside his four Grammys and his Oscar nomination.
That’s because he joins a dozen other music superstars — including Dolly Parton, Common, Ryan Tedder, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Meshell Ndegeocello — who have entered work in this year’s Emmy competition.
Voting began yesterday in the seven music categories. Approximately 550 members of the Academy’s music branch will cast ballots, although viewing the hundreds of entries before voting ends on June 26 is an impossible task, Academy officials privately concede.
The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, is among the 19 entries in the Music Direction category. He submitted “The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium,” an HBO special that aired in February. If nominated, he’s likely to be up against such past winners as Adam Blackstone and Rickey Minor (“The Oscars”).

After a surprisingly eventful ceremony last year, the 2023 Oscars went on without a hitch Sunday. Everything Everywhere All at Once completed its awards-season sweep with a whopping seven trophies, including Best Picture, as well as three of the four acting categories. It was the Oscars’ most-awarded film in a decade.
And audiences seemed to respond, if only slightly. The 95th annual ceremony brought in 18.7 million viewers, a 12% increase from last year when the telecast captured 16.6M viewers. The telecast also was up to a 4.0 demo rating, compared with last year’s 3.8.

Peter Hook had planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Joy Division’s Closer — an LP that, due to the death of singer Ian Curtis two months before its release, the band never performed live — with a series of full-album performances this summer. Exclusive: The Max Winkler-directed drama Jungleland — which pairs Charlie Hunnam and Jack O’Connell in a drama about bare-knuckle boxing — is in the ring with Lionsgate on a deal for North American rights. Several distributors have been into this, but I’m told that Lionsgate is the frontrunner in talks to secure a movie that got strong reviews after it premiered at Toronto last fall.
Hunnam plays the manager and O’Connell plays his bare-knuckle boxer brother. They fall into heavy debt to a mobster and are given the chance to wipe the slate clean if they travel to San Francisco and compete in Jungleland — a bare knuckle boxing tournament. And, oh, yeah, they also have to drop off a teen girl at the doorstep of a feared mobster. Failing will mean death. Jessica Barden plays the teen and Jonathan Majors plays the mobster to whom they fall into debt.

The annual Tibet House benefit is a New York City musical tradition, always well-curated by composer and downtown arts ambassador emeritus Philip Glass. The organization’s mission is to preserve, protect, promote and advance Tibetan culture — and with its focus on peace (inner and outer), meditation, healing and happiness, that mission couldn’t be more timely. So the event, billed as the 32nd annual (give or take a few; no one seems to recall exactly), was especially welcome this year. And as usual, the music captured the spirit of the moment.

At last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, filmmaker Max Winkler surprised many with his dark comedy “Flower.” Previous to that film, the director had only one other film under his belt, 2010’s “Ceremony,” which premiered in Toronto but received generally mixed reviews. In the meantime, Winkler honed his craft on TV, working on episodes of “New Girl,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” and “Casual.” Now, after the success of “Flower,” Winkler is jumping right into his next feature and he’s lined up a star-studded cast to join him.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 2, Episode 10, “The Last Ceremony,” as well as the “Legion” Season 2 finale, “Chapter 19.”]
It’s never a particularly fun time to be a female character on television, but it’s especially true these days. In recent weeks, two high-profile series have found themselves dealing with delicate subject matter, but it’s the nuances of how they each approached their individual sexual assault storylines which ultimately defines their quality.
In “The Last Ceremony,” “The Handmaid’s Tale” deliberately strips away the normalization that the powerful men of Gilead have achieved for the systematic rape of women which underlies its society. It does so with a slap to the face, as the pregnant Offred/June (Elisabeth Moss) is forced into another “Ceremony,” theoretically to help advance her pending labor, but also as a means by which Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) can reassert their authority over her.

"So what's the plan?" The Orchard has debuted the second official trailer for an teen-angst dramedy titled Flower, from director Max Winkler (of the film Ceremony). This follows up the first red band teaser trailer. Flower stars the awesome Zoey Deutch as a young rebellious teen who decides to act out and band with her two friends to expose the kinky secrets of sexy high-school teacher Will, played by Adam Scott. Things get wacky and weird. The film's full cast includes Kathryn Hahn, Joey Morgan, Tim Heidecker, Dylan Gelula, Maya Eshet, plus Eric Edelstein. This looks hilarious, there's a few times I actually laughed out loud watching this trailer. Really looking forward to seeing this! Damn, where did it come from? Have fun. Here's the second official trailer for Max Winkler's Flower, direct from The Orchard's YouTube: You can still watch the red band teaser + see the poster for Flower here,...

"We're vigilantes - it's our moral obligation." The Orchard has debuted the first red band teaser trailer for an teen-angst dramedy titled Flower, from director Max Winkler (of the film Ceremony). You wouldn't expect a young adult comedy to need a red band trailer, but this gets wicked fast. It's only red bad for the language, nothing else, so don't expect too much with this teaser. Sometimes a movie that comes along that has so many good ingredients, you really hope it meets the potential. That’s the case with “Flower,” led by rising star Zoey Deutch (“Everybody Wants Some!!“) and directed by Max Winkler (“Ceremony“). The good news is, this “unpredictable and audacious” movie delivers.
Co-starring Adam Scott, Tim Heidecker and Kathryn Hahn, and co-written by Matt Spicer, the movie dives into coming-of-age territory, but does so with bite and grit, and what looks to be more than a few inappropriate laughs.

Max Winkler’s “Flower” is nothing if not a coming-of-age story, but it’s explicitly clear from the very first scene that the film’s teen characters have already lost their innocence a long time ago. We open in the front seat of a cop car, as 17-year-old Erica (“Before I Fall” star Zoey Deutch, acing another tricky lead role) gives a dispassionate blowjob to a uniformed police officer. Not that she doesn’t enjoy giving head — Erica has a sketchbook filled with immaculate drawings of every penis that she’s ever put in her mouth — but, like just about all of her sexual encounters to date, this hook up is purely transactional. When the cop asks her where she learned to suck dick like that, Erica bluntly replies: “Middle school.”
It’s a simple grift, and one that’s never played for titillation: Erica uses her jailbait charms to...

“Flower” is the kind of movie that seems to be asking for trouble: A racy story about a 17-year-old girl who sexually schemes men out of their money, the film was written by three men, one of whom, Max Winkler, also served as director. At a time when Hollywood is already taking heat for not creating enough opportunities for women filmmakers, having a group of men tell a story about a sexually adventurous teenage girl could be seen as playing with fire.

Max Winkler has mastered both sides of TV and film as director of such comedy series as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl as well as indie films like 2010 Ceremony starring Uma Thurman and Michael Angarano. Thirty-three-year-old filmmaker Max Winkler has practically lived a mini-filmmaking career over the last 10 years. While he released his directorial debut, the Paul Thomas Anderson– and Wes Anderson-influenced “Ceremony” at the age of 26, the precocious filmmaker had, by that point, already directed episodes of David Wain’s “Wainy Days” and Michael Cera’s extremely underrated and influential web series, “Clark And Michael.” Normally a young filmmaker waiting seven years to make his next film might panic, but Winkler kept himself so busy between features, he likely didn’t have time to be anxious.

As half the duo who created the now-defunct comedy series “Key & Peele,” Keegan-Michael Key knows a lot about being funny. Perhaps just as notably, neither he nor longtime collaborator Jordan Peele will let themselves be defined by it.
While the pair co-wrote and starred in last year’s missing-cat romp “Keanu,” their more recent work shows considerable effort to work outside the confines of comedy. Peele recently made his directorial debut with the wildly successful racially themed horror film “Get Out,” and Key has cast a wide net with his acting gigs. Last year, he had a major role in Mike Birbiglia’s ensemble piece about an improv troupe, “Don’t Think Twice,” and he’s currently shooting Shane Black’s big-budget reboot “The Predator.” This month, he’ll surface in “Win It All,” Joe Swanberg’s latest effort, which is produced by Netflix and will premiere at the SXSW...

In what can only be described as welcome news, Disney has announced its plans to re-launch The Rocketeer with a sequel intended to reboot the property as franchise material – with a black woman as the central hero. The original film was released in 1991 to lacklustre response in theatres – but found a devoted audience later as it settled in to the home entertainment market. The new movie will be titled The Rocketeers.
The Rocketeer is a comic book character, created in 1982 by Dave Stevens, and was designed to be an homage to the heroes of the 1930s and 1940s. His real name is Cliff Secord, and he is a stunt pilot who stumbles upon a strange but functional jet pack. In the original movie, set in 1938 and directed by Joe Johnston, he uses the jet pack to fight Nazis as the Second World War commences. Secord is played by Billy Campbell,...

While Independence Day: Resurgence isn’t going over as well as the original, we found some things to appreciate. Nonetheless, Roland Emmerich is already gearing up for another sci-fi mammoth. Deadline reports Emmerich is teaming up with long-time collaborating writer Harald Kloser for Moonfall, which the pair wrote together in 2012 with screenwriter Spencer Cohen. Apparently a mix between Emmerich’s own 2012 and Spielberg’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Moonfall’s titular event is quite literal as a band of misfits must unite to save our planet and everyone on it when the moon drops from orbit and plummets towards Earth.
There’s no dates attached to the project, but it has been fast-tracked by Universal and will be co-produced by Emmerich and Kloser. In the meantime, read our review of Independence Day: Resurgence and watch a video essay on why the original has held up after 20 years.

Celebrating the end of another exciting exhibition of the hottest upcoming flicks, Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman attended the Closing Ceremony of the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals on Sunday (May 26).
The "Kill Bill" star chose a strapless shiny long, flowing gown as she smiled on the red carpet, while the Cannes jury member showed off a white strapless form-fitting frock with cute curly hair held up off her neck.
