Outlaw couple Blake (director/co-writer Romeo Ryder) and Haily (co-writer Kimberly Ann Saviano) find themselves stuck in a dusty and desolate desert ghost town in the middle of nowhere in the wake of their latest botched robbery. Blake and Haily eventually discover that they are actually dead and are now forced to relive their last day for perpetuity in the seventh circle of hell that's reserved for the violent. Director Ryder takes smart and inspired advantage of film as a visual medium; the bulk of the simple, yet effective and arresting story is told through striking stylized imagery. Gigi Malavasi's polished cinematography makes nifty use of both bluish tinged lighting and lively hand-held camera-work. Gregory Nicolett's rattling, shuddery score further enhances the strong and palpable feeling of overwhelming dread and paranoia. One especially nice touch is that Blake and Haily spend the entire movie with bandannas covering their faces, as if to suggest that they don't really qualify as true human beings because of their brutal and lawless nature. This film even comes complete with a sound moral statement: You reap what you sow. Bleak and atmospheric, this short is well worth a look.
