Franck Richard’s French creature feature La Meute aka 'The Pack' is set for a bow Stateside this month, and whilst it’s gone and got a U.S trailer of its very own, that is just about it. Don’t expect to be seeing it theatres anytime soon, as Indomina Releasing are only going down the VOD route for this one. So if you want to give it a watch and if you have the right box of wires you can check it out on demand, on any of the following cable providers, from September 27: Comcast • Time Warner • Cox Communication • Bright House Networks. Synopsis: The Pack follows Charlotte (Emilie Dequenne), a beautiful but rough around the edges kind of girl, who drives a beat-up station wagon in the countryside of northern France. Her journey takes a turn when she picks up a mysterious hitchhiker (Benjamine Biolay), with whom she strikes an unusual bond.

Director: Franck Richard. Review: Adam Wing. Billed as a French horror comedy, Franck Richard’s The Pack (La Meute) rips flesh from several breeds of horror and throws them in a blender. After being hassled by a motorbike gang in the middle of nowhere, loner Charlotte Massot (Emilie Dequenne) picks up hitchhiker Max (Benjamin Biolay) for added security. When Max goes missing at the La Spack truck-stop café and she investigates his disappearance, Charlotte discovers that she’s being set up to take part in an unholy ritual. Philippe Nahon and Yolande Moreau join Dequenne and Biolay in this peculiar take on the zombie sub-genre. Three horror movies for the price of one, that’s what you get when you spend the night with The Pack. Coming on like The Ordeal, Franck Richard’s debut introduces a familiar collection of oddball characters and quirky situations. The fledgling director laces the...

*here be some spoilers.
Director/writer: Franck Richard.
La Meute or The Pack attended Cannes 2010 and the film has also been to the Fantasia Film Festival, as well. This is director Franck Richard's first feature film and there are many of the film elements here that make French horror so unique. There are buckets of blood and gore, desolate farmlands and one young woman trying to escape a living nightmare. This is a pretty straight forward horror thriller, with one or two clever moments added in, from a clever cop, which creates much of the interesting conflict.
Charlotte (Emilie Dequenne) sets off on a driving adventure. Along the way she meets a group of bi-sexual bikers and a quiet hitchhiker. Remember horror fans, never pick up hitchhikers! This mysterious traveller disappears in to the washroom of La Spack's (Yolande Moreau) rundown diner. Then, Charlotte looks for her new friend,...

The Pack Trailer has premiered. Franck Richard‘s The Pack / La Meute (2010) Movie stars Yolande Moreau, Émilie Dequenne, Benjamin Biolay, Philippe Nahon, and Brice Fournier. The Pack‘s plot synopsis: “In the middle of a snowy no man’s land, Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn’t come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. She decides to return during the night but gets kidnapped by the bartender, La Spack, who turns out to be Max’s mother and needs to feed her kids, ‘The pack’, a bunch of blood lusting ghouls. Charlotte now faces a terrifying reality: these ghouls are already dead… and hungry. Alone and in the middle of nowhere, she quickly realizes… she’s next on the menu!”
This horror movie looks gloriously nuts. One question: What’s in that tube going into Charlotte (Émilie Dequenne)’s mouth?...

Here in the Us we're still waiting for word from Indomina Releasing as to when they'll be putting out Franck Richard's The Pack (La Meute), but our friends across the pond in the UK will be able to see the flick this July 4th courtesy of Icon Home Entertainment, who has provided a new trailer, clip, and some totally badass artwork.

We’ve been waiting for what seems like an age for some bright spark to drop Franck Richard’s French creature feature La Meute (aka The Pack) onto an English subbed release, and UK picture house Icon have very sensibly stepped up to the plate and are set to release the flick on DVD and Blu-ray. Not only that, it comes with the added bonus of sleeve art by British horror illustrator extraordinaire, Graham Humphreys. Known for his work on classic horror posters including; ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Evil Dead.’ The newly released UK trailer is below, but be warned its chock full of spoilers, and shows off far too much of the creatures to our mind. Philippe Nahon and Yolande Moreau stars in the film that centers upon what happens "in the middle of a snowy no man's land when Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn’t come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. While I wasn't a huge fan, BC quite enjoyed Franck Richard's French creature feature The Pack (La Meute). Acquired by Indomina Releasing for release later this year, inside we got our hands on a bizarre new image, along with the international poster. "Charlotte is alone on a road trip. On an isolated side road, she picks up Max, a hitchhiker, who disappears in the bathroom of a truck-stop restaurant a few miles later. Puzzled, Charlotte comes back at night to look for him but gets caught by La Spack, a singular woman in charge of an odd pack. Charlotte quickly realizes....she's next on the menu."...

If there was ever an award for “most understated marketing campaign for a horror movie” we’d have to say the one for Franck Richard’s La Meute (aka The Pack) would have to come near top of the tree. A new poster and clip have just been released, and even now - with the movie due for release at the end of the month - there’s still very little to give any hint at what to really expect. Early reviews have described as a dark humoured, gritty, gory creature feature. Dont get that at all from the poster. One thing the new clip does show well is that bizarre dark humour in action. Keep an eye on what’s going on out the window. The pack opens in France September 29th. The Rise of the Appliances (Rob Sprackling) - A comedy horror in which household appliances rise up and take over the world. The short was really funny in places. Not all the jokes landed successfully but when they did they were great.
Dead Hungry (William Bridges) – Why doesn’t anyone care about how hard it must be living as a zombie and trying to find food. Dead Hungry cares. Focusing on just one of the zombies in the middle of a generic zombie film Bridges takes a...

You might have noticed the coverage of this years ultra-sized Fantasia film festival in the Reviews and Interviews column of the site from a number of contributors taking in the festival: Mack, Shelagh, Peter, Todd, and myself, as well as a plethora of other Twitch writers hither and yon. Covering a festival of this size is a massive undertaking and I hope you enjoyed all the updates, interviews, and reviews. Rest assured there are still a few more to come. As Fantasia winds down with a screening of Metropolis Extended Edition and full orchestra, it seems to have been a raging success this year across the board. The festival announced its Jury and Audience awards, and they are below. It seems that the Subversive Serbia sidebar was a big hit, with controversial A Serbian Film getting one of the big audience awards.

Nearly a dozen new images have surfaced online for Franck Richard's French creature feature The Pack; yet, still we don't get a single glimpse of any creature action. Even so you can definitely tell strange things are ... ummm ... "a foot"!
The film starring Philippe Nahon (High Tension) and Yolande Moreau (Amelie) centers upon what happens "in the middle of a snowy no man's land when Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn’t come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. She decides to return during the night but gets kidnapped by the bartender, La Spack, who turns out to be Max’s mother and needs to feed her kids, the pack, a bunch of blood-lusting ghouls. Charlotte now faces a terrifying reality: These ghouls are already dead ... and hungry. Alone and in the middle of nowhere,...

Though we're only a single film deep into the program of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival - Ridley Scott's Robin Hood kicked things off last night - we already have our first controversy.
Franck Richard's much anticipated French creature feature The Pack had been slated to have its world premiere as part of the free, outdoor Cinema De La Plage series but that screening has been blocked by French censors concerned about the film's extreme content. Festival organizers have rescheduled the premiere as an indoor event where the age of attendees can be monitored to satisfy the censorship board but this still comes as a blow to the festival's move to use the free screenings to premiere films rather than treating it purely for screenings of old titles. Here's the full press release:

One flick causing quite a stir at this year's Cannes Film Festival is Franck Richard's debut feature The Pack (La Meute). Looks as if the public is going to have to wait a while longer for their first glimpse of monster-filled goodness!
According to Bloody Disgusting "the Cnc (French National Film Board) censorship committee has 'required the prohibition of the open and free screening of [The Pack].' While the film will still be shown to press and buyers, the public screening has been officially canceled because 'the film might have a strong restriction when released in theaters'."

This latest taste of what's to come is courtesy of the film's official Facebook page, but be warned it's in French with no subtitles. Still ... it does feature some creatures doing their thing, and that sells it in any language, does it not?

The next for director Nick Palumbo has an already impressive lineup of talent scheduled for this incredible sounding story of children lost in a land of horror. The Dp will be none other then Laurent Barès who shot not only Inside, but also Frontier(s) and the upcoming film La Meute among many others. Vincent J. Guastini, who's done makeup and special effects on such films as Requiem for a Dream and the upcoming Neighbor, will be designing and creating all the F/X for corpse. And the young Bella Thorne (has anyone seen any of her films?) will be starring. I was already sold with the storyline but the Dp clinched the deal.
Synopsis:
A small Midwestern town is Ground Zero as the living face the evils of their past as retribution and Apocalypse become one.
