Philly indie rockers Spirit of the Beehive have announced a new EP called i’m so lucky, due for release September 1st via Saddle Creek. They’ll be celebrating the release with a short run of 2023 tour dates, and they’re giving a preview of what’s to come with the new single “tapeworm” b/w “natural devotion 2.”
In spite of its optimistic title, i’m so lucky came about after summer 2022, when Spirit of the Beehive bandmates Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede decided to end their romantic relationship after being together for over 10 years. Although the breakup heavily jeopardized the future of the band, i’m so lucky is not only a testament to their creative bond, but also a source of catharsis for Schwartz and Ravede.
“For the first three or four months after it ended, it was pretty rough,” Schwartz said in a press release. “I don...

Paris-based Haut et Court has closed French distribution rights with sales agent Film Factory Entertainment on Victor Erice’s ”Close Your Eyes” (“Cerrar los ojos”), the legendary Spanish director’s return to feature film direction 30 years after Cannes Jury Prize winner “Dream of Light” and a half century on from his milestone debut, “The Spirit of the Beehive.”
“Beehive” is regarded by many critics as one of the greatest Spanish films ever made. “Light” was chosen by the world’s cinematheques as the best film of the 1990s. “Close Your Eyes” reunites Erice with Ana Torrent, a wide-eyed mite in “Beehive.”
One of the most awaited Spanish films of 2023, it will be released in Spain by Avalon Films, the producer-distributor of “Alcarràs.”

It hasn't even been 24 hours since queen Bey released her highly-anticipated seventh studio album, Renaissance, but the Beehive is already deep into decoding the lyrics of each track. There's one song, in particular, that style devotees can't stop swooning over. In true Beyoncé fashion, she packed a powerful punch in the final verse of the last track, "Summer Renaissance," in which she praises Black designer Telfar Clemens and his iconic handbags of the same name. "Versace, Bottega, Prada, Balenciaga / Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy, collect your points, Beyoncé,"...

What have Matthew Holness, Richard Ayoade, Alice Lowe and Matt Berry been up to in the decade since Garth Marenghi's Darkplace?
It’s been ten years now since author, visionary, and dreamweaver Garth Marenghi’s legendary horror TV show, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, was rescued from a vault in Peru and broadcast to a largely unappreciative audience.
Or, you know, in the reality we actually inhabit, it’s been ten years since a group of comedians donned 80s costumes and pretended to be aging filmmakers commenting on their own ‘lost’ series. Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace was a perfect send-up of both trashy low-budget horror and science fiction productions and pompous creators, as a bewigged Matthew Holness straight-facedly explained the unique genius of his horror writing alter ego even as his greatest creation, Dr Rick Dagless M.D., mugged away in the background.
It was a ludicrously high concept show,...
