Adventure and romance
phd_travel21 December 2021
This much anticipated series has North South adventure and a charming romance. I enjoyed the first 2 episodes very much. Jung Hae In and Jisoo are luminous. She acts surprisingly well. Charming and lovely. He is as always completely watchable and sympathetic. The 1980 setting is brought to life.

It looks like they didn't spare expense to make this a grand looking authentic sweeping drama. The supporting cast is all top notch and familiar to K drama fans. Haven't felt so excited about a show like this since Crash Landing.

Tragic twist
usharaperera1 February 2022
All in all, the drama is very good along with the plot. Jung Hae-In stood out the most to me. His character had different emotional aspects and he managed all very well.

But the ending was too tragic too watch....

Suspenseful drama
evagemarat26 December 2021
I am a Jung Hae-in's fan since Something in the Rain, so all this time I've been waiting patiently for Snowdrop's release. Although I didn't particularly like the pilot, I found it too confusing for a non SK Korean viewer like me who has no idea about this time of SK history, I kept on watching. I wasn't disappointed. The drama is getting better and better, the story so far is moving on with a fast tempo (it's not been dragged following the kdrama rule) and is kinda unpredictable with plot twists in every single episode.

Jung Hae-in is giving a stellar performance imo, his acting range is on display for everyone to see. Jisoo is doing a decent job considering this is her debut drama. Their chemistry is brilliant, I could get Sooho's and Yeongro's mutual attraction from the start.

As for the history distortion, I suppose I will have to make my own search to understand better the political background of the 1987 South Korea. My curiosity on the matter is been triggered; I suppose many will feel the same and if this happens it's a gain for both Snowdrop and the country.

Cinematography perfect
tharuperera-7327221 December 2021
Best drama of the year. Cinematography, soundtrack so good. The all casts doing great job here. Storyline really well it's not only a romantic drama but really intense of thrill , happy , sad and like an emotional roller coaster ride you don't know what will happen next it keeps the viewers excited . I truly recommend this . If you love romance related drama surely this is one of the best option to watch an intense love story . The plots are amazing . Mind blowing .

I like this.

It's just a fiction, okay? It's not based on real life story, they're just exaggerating to cancel the drama because it's a kpop idol. If it's their favorite actress being the main character, they'll be supporting this drama. But because it's Jisoo, they're like, OmG hEr aCtInG iS sO bAd, tHe dRaMa dIsTOrTs chuchuchu.

Overlong, overwrought Kdrama
mjkarlin10 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Snowdrop may have been planned well before Crash Landing On You but the underlying theme is the same - the impossible love affair between a North Korean soldier and a high ranking Korean woman. Snowdrop is a lot darker and does not end as well for the protagonists as the ambiguously romantic denouement of CLOY, but it presents the same insuperable dilemma, particularly for the man. He knows that to place his love ahead of his duty, his family will be destroyed by the unforgiving (and completely unromantic) North Korean government and indeed he himself may also be hunted down. So for those who require happy endings for their romances, this is not the show for you.

The backdrop is also much darker: The ruling party in South Korea will do anything, including murdering a large number of young women hostages taken by North Korean operatives at a girls' university dorm, to carry out its scheme to get elected. The plot has more twists than a hungry anaconda and some of them are quite clever, but ultimately the series suffers from the same problem that afflicts so many Korean dramas - 16 super long episodes to fill and not enough material. The same scenes repeat themselves. And the writer had to resort to plot devices that simply beggar credibility, including innumerable times when tied up individuals wriggle free; various hostages are allowed to wander free around the dorm even after they have been caught, multiple times, committing mischievous and in some cases treacherous acts; the villains repeatedly swap places in the competition for power, all amid the usual torrent of eavesdropping, monologuing (see The Incredibles), and big and small reveals. There is also the usual stream of implausible coincidences and flashbacks. (Really, how did several secret agents end up at the women's dorm long before the hostage crisis?)

Probably the biggest challenge to our ability to go along with the story is the way the villains in the ruling Korean party so completely control the press and everything else that no leak of their nefarious plot, even when presented on a plate, gets out to the public or the anguished (although mostly invisible) parents of the hostages. On one occasion, cassettes (remember them) get delivered to all the major newspapers and TV stations and everyone of them gets intercepted. Apparently, no one thought of sending them to a foreign news agency or correspondent beyond the reach of the bad guys. And the huge SWAT team supinely goes along with plans to murder and bomb the students and at one time obeys an order by one villain to shoot his rival (who survives, of course - if you ever get shot or stabbed, let it be on the set of a Korean drama). But it is impossible to sustain the belief that the villains really count on succeeding by murdering 30 students, shutting up their parents, and suppressing numerous other people who know what is happening.

There are so many other more minor but equally credulity defying details that I will stop there and move on to the acting.

The main protagonists do their best but one has to say that they are not all that watchable. Jisoo, a member of the super girl group BlackPink, in her first major dramatic role plays her part well enough and certainly does not deserve the many negative comments bestowed on her by so-called Korean netizens, one of the world's most cowardly and self-righteous groups. These twerps don't seem to be able to tell the difference between poor acting and poor writing. Jisoo is at her best early on in the show when she has something to do. But for many episodes right to the end, she's just a cross between an ornament and a tearful punching bag and that is definitely the fault of the writing. It's a little hard to explain without unreasonable plot spoilers, but there were a dozen opportunities to give her more to do and the writer and director spurned all of them.

Just as in CLOY, our North Korean hero is portrayed by Jung Hae-in as almost irresistible as a love interest and as almost saintly in his devotion to duty, all the while struggling with the wildly different directions in which these pull him. I can see how South Koreans might be offended by the latter although they should have been a little more forgiving as duty gradually gives way to the need for human decency. It's an acceptable performance, but no more than that.

Surrounding the two leads is a huge cast of well-established Korean actors, who generally do not disappoint, with a special mention for the unspeakable conniving trio of wives of the three villains, played by Kim Jung-nan, Jung Hye-young and Baek Ji-won in that overwrought style that seems to be adopted by so many older Korean actors. Their husbands are also overwrought. Hats off to a terrific Yoo In-na, one of Korea's most beautiful actresses who, as gorgeous as she was in Queen and I and in Goblin, dresses down, hides behind glasses, and completely conceals her glamour to play another (eventually) conflicted character. I also had a thing for the villainous Rosa Klebb-lookalike in the North Korean government, played relentlessly by a snarling Jeon Ae-ri - I kept expecting her to kick her rival with a poisoned blade in her boot.

If you don't mind the multiple twists and turns and the plot holes piling up like a car wreck on a bad day on the California freeways, and if you like to squeal in frustration at the screen as the good guys keep doing stupid things and the villains keep getting away with it, Snowdrop is for you. It's not the worst way to spend a few, more than a few, hours but it ultimately feels tired and, for all the time the makers had to tell their tale, it ends rather abruptly.

Snowdrop is one of drama you can watch in this winter. How they introduction all characters is really smooth, and can wait for the next episode. As new actress, Jisoo is really shining there.

Missed Opportunity
AJ_McAninch27 April 2022
Superb writer, director, and cast, but they are bogged down in a bloated, repetitive series. The actors all play against type and stretch their skills; however, the story becomes overblown in secondary scenes with boring, shrieking characters and far too long episodes filled with talk and constant repetition. And then there is the contemptible attack on innocent college students that stretches credulity episode after long episode to the predictable outcome. Tacking on a scene afterwards does little to relieve the numb disappointment in what could have been an exhilarating story. It could have been great; it is instead just okay.

Harsh reality is distorted and fake history is in this seems-like romance Drama.
johans-7180519 December 2021
If you want to focus the romance itself, you may watch this video.

But, If you have just little bit of interest about the history of Democratic Movement against military tyranny Government, just do not watch this.

This Movement continues from 70th till late 80th.

That was just like what happens in Myanmar.

I was one of them and blood shed in the street.

There was no North-Korean Espionage in the protesters.

This Drama justifies the former 'Jonduwhan' Military Government and this is serious Humiliation of peace and Democracy-loving all Korean citizens.

Nice to watch
allwinbc20 December 2021
The drama is Very Good so far. This is Art Guys, Look at it through the aesthetic eye. The cast crew is very powerful and Story is also Good. Even OSTs are heart touching. As a rookie actress Jisoo's acting is also Commendable. Congratulations on her acting career! Other actors are Perfect as usual.

Btw it is really disappointing that Disney+ have streaming limits for Snowdrop. And it is not released in India. If it isn't this is gonna break records!

I invite all of you to enjoy this drama from an artistic point of view disregarding the so-called historical controversy and personnel hatred.

But other than that, snowdrop is a good drama series.
Macamtema20 December 2021
Snowdrop is one of the most awaited series this winter. But unfortunately a lot of controversy about the fictional story raised in this story. A student's love story with a North Korean spy who was deemed too sensitive would change history in the 1980s. The student falls in love with a man she doesn't know is a North Korean spy. So afraid of shifting the dark history of how students at that time were considered enemies because they demanded the unfair South Korean government at that time. Because the student was protecting North Korean spies, who were enemies of South Korea, it was feared that it would describe how students at that time were considered to be defending the enemy. However, based on the fictional story of the drama series, the female college student doesn't know that the man she loves is a spy. But other than that, snowdrop is a good drama series.

IMPRESSED BY THE WHOLE DRAMA!!!
geminiahad19 December 2021
This show is EVERYTHING. I like many underestimated it due to lack of details but now after watching the first two episodes I can confidently say that Snowdrop is one of the best Kdramas ever made. It tackles so many things perfectly and I am impressed that nothing feels like a filler. This drama has so many characters and arcs but everything is balanced. The cinematography is amazing, every single scene looks beautiful. The soundtrack is out of this world and don't make me talk about the cast. EVERY SINGLE ACTOR in this drama has outperformed themselves. Amazing performances by everyone from leads to supporting. Special shoutout out to Jisoo who aced her debut lead role of Young Ro. This drama has something for everyone. It has romance, comedy, politics, thrills and fair share of action. It will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat.

Crash Landing Without the Fun

I FELL ASLEEP MOST OF THE TIME
lovelyhany7 February 2022
PROS: The casting is prefect (full of great actors), the acting was very goo because they really have great impact and cinematography was awesome. The movie has a lot of plot twist though.

CONS: A little bit boring and sad because the movie was focused more on those bad people and a Never ending struggle up until the end is just too much.

(This is just based on my perspective)

Why is every episode over an hour long?
fakeimmigrant27 February 2022
To be clear, my review is only after four episodes (only five are available on Disney+ at the moment for me). I'm struggling to keep watching it at this point. Like a lot of the others who are sour on the show, it's just so poorly paced, even for a "soapy drama" . Each of the first five episodes ranges between 79-90 minutes. Yes, I am aware that these longer-run times are common for K-Dramas, it still feels unnecessary and only done out of necessity.

I hope that there is someone out there willing to trim the fat and condense this into something that is easier to consume.

Great Show
fttjvswpd10 January 2022
So this K-Drama was already controversial before its launch.

The Main Reason behind this is the Story because the Drama tells a fictional Story about North- and South Korea who have made a deal to make the South Korean Eun Chang-soo win the Election.

Starting into the first Episodes, you'll see Young-ro (Jisoo) living a live in the Hosu Women University. If you got bored after the first Episodes, give it another try. These Episodes are basically there to set everything up and let us Viewers know more about the Characters. Speaking of them, Jisoo and Jung Hae In act their roles very good and I even was surprised about Jisoo acting.

Many People criticized her acting but for me it never felt off or weird.

Beside these two and the other main characters, i feel like some of the side characters are written too poorly. Since they aren't relevant that much you can forget about them. There are some people who are the "stupid dudes", no one likes so if you are getting frustrated fast about these characters, then I wouldn't recommend this series to you

The Camerawork couldn't be done better in my Opinion.

Its not the fast cut style like Hollywood Movies and in fighting scenes you can actually follow their Movements.

The Music thought throws me out some time, it ends too abruptly or just doesn't fit that good.

Im writing this on the 10th, so there are only 9 Episodes available at the Moment and I can't say how its going to End, this is definitely a good thing.

Summary:

Positiv: Good Acting from Main characters Good Story Good Camerawork

Negative: Annyoing Characters (purposely) Music Flat written Side Characters

Would I recommend you watching this Show?

Definitely! I hope you find my Review helpful.
