  Alex Danvers : She had power dampeners before when she was at that terrible group home. I'm-I'm not gonna control her like that.

  Supergirl : No, it's not about control. I-It could just give her some relief. My glasses cut out the noise for me. They let me belong.

  Alex Danvers : They let you hide.

  Supergirl : Well, hide my powers, yeah, but that was a good thing.

  Alex Danvers : Kara, when you came to Earth, it was... it was dangerous to be an alien. It's not like that anymore. I mean, she doesn't have to hide to fit in. And I am certainly not gonna make her suppress who she is.

  Supergirl : But the world is still pretty dangerous, Alex. I mean, imagine how many people I could have accidentally hurt if I didn't know how to handle my super-strength.

  Alex Danvers : Well, she needs to learn how to manage her powers, not bury them.

  Supergirl : She will learn how to manage them, in time. I'm just saying this because I have the life experience to know what she's going through.

  Alex Danvers : I know what you went through, as well. I mean, I was there, remember?

  Supergirl : Of course. It's just, you're raising a child with powers now, and there is no way for you to fully grasp what that feels like.

  Alex Danvers : Okay, as you just said, Kara, she's my daughter and I am raising her. And apparently, we need to set some ground rules here. 'Cause if I want parenting advice, I'll ask. And if I don't... don't tell me how to raise my kid.

• Supergirl : Still no results from Esme's blood test?

  Alex Danvers : No. I'm gonna cancel the party tonight.

  Supergirl : Alex, no. Are you sure you wanna cancel the party?

  Alex Danvers : Yes, I'm sure.

  Kelly Olsen : [coming in]  We may not need Esme's blood test after all. I just got off the phone with her school again. There's a new alien in her class, a Tattamite.

  Supergirl : I've read about them. They have powerful tempers and can manifest distinctive skin markings, which they use as camouflage.

  Alex Danvers : Skin markings? Esme might have mimicked this student, which caused the rose tattoo on her neck.

  Kelly Olsen : And that would account for her erratic powers and her anger.

  Alex Danvers : [sighing in relief]  Thank God.

  Supergirl : So this means you guys don't have to cancel the party, and Esme doesn't have to miss the baking competition.

  Alex Danvers : Yeah, but, I mean, are we gonna get there in time?

  Kelly Olsen : If we leave now.

  [as they leave, Kara wants to apologize, but doesn't know what to say] 

  Lena Luthor : [on comms]  Hey, Kara, we just got a hit off Naxim's ship. Good thing your Kryptosuit's good for outer space.

• J'onn J'onnz : Lex is building a LexoSuit army?

  William Dey : Apparently, it's a gift to help ingratiate himself with Nxyly and help defeat you guys and get the totems.

  Supergirl : And Otis told you this in an alley?

  William Dey : I convinced him to meet by offering to keep whatever he said on deep background, but he wanted to go on the record. I got the impression that his bromance with Lex is rocky.

  Dreamer : What if Otis spilling the tea is just another one of Lex's tricks?

  Lena Luthor : Then we just use that to our advantage. I can create a data interception program to track Lex through the LexoSuits. We'll know where he is soon.

  Alex Danvers : That's great, Lena.

  Lena Luthor : And listen, I know the timing's not ideal, but I got a call from my friend at Club Rialto, and she said that her VIP suite is available for your bachelorette party if you want it.

  J'onn J'onnz : [Kara gaps excitedly]  Nice.

  Lena Luthor : Tonight.

  Alex Danvers : Tonight? Uh, I...

  Supergirl : Alex! Life is unpredictable. The world is unpredictable. There will always be a threat. You have to seize the joy when you can. Come on. I can keep everyone safe.

  J'onn J'onnz , William Dey , Dreamer : [chanting]  Do it! Do it! Do it!

• Esme : Kara!

  Supergirl : Hey, bud.

  Supergirl : Ooh! Hey, I heard you had some trouble at school today. Are you okay?

  Alex Danvers : Um... her powers got a little out of hand, so we're just gonna run some tests and get to the bottom of it.

  Supergirl : I'm sorry, Esme. My powers got a little overwhelming at times too when I was little, but it gets better, I promise.

• Kelly Olsen : They were making posters for the school's baking competition and a mean girl made fun of Esme's chocolate roulade entry.

  Esme : Chelsea said it looked like an ugly log. I'm gonna lose. I didn't mean to use my powers, but then boom, paint everywhere. I'm sorry.

  Kelly Olsen : No, it's okay.

  Alex Danvers : I think Chelsea is just jealous because she's baking boring old brownies, and your roulade is exciting and it's unique, just like you.

  Esme : Thanks.

  Alex Danvers : But you didn't get the paint in your ears, and I don't know how you did it.

  Kelly Olsen : It's impressive.

  Alex Danvers : [finding the mark in between her shoulder blades]  Esme, what's this back here? Did someone... did someone draw on you?

  Kelly Olsen : Let me see.

  [taking a look] 

  Kelly Olsen : Wasn't there at bath time yesterday. Is that a tattoo?

• Supergirl : I just want to make sure we're okay after... after earlier. I... I'm really sorry I overstepped.

  Alex Danvers : I know you want what's best for Esme. And I'm sorry that I reacted so harshly. And that it was so hard for you as a kid. I j... I wish there was more that I could have done to make it easier.

  Supergirl : You did so much to help me. You still do. Esme is really lucky to have you.

  Alex Danvers : It's really important to me that she doesn't feel like an "other". I don't know what it's like to grow up as an alien, but I do know what it's like to not be living your truth. And I don't want that for her.

  Supergirl : You're right. Esme deserves to be proud of every part of her identity. So do you. Especially the mom part. 'Cause you are a seriously good one.

  Alex Danvers : And you're a seriously good sister.

• William Dey : What's your takeaway from today's encounter with Nxyly and Lex?

  J'onn J'onnz : I'd say it's a huge win. They no longer have a ship, no LexoSuit army, and no totems.

  Supergirl : [flying in]  And we also have five totems secured at the Fortress of Solitude, but don't print that.

  Alex Danvers : [coming in with Kelly, Esme, and Lena]  Great job, guys. Lena just filled us in.

  Kelly Olsen : And more importantly, please give a big round of applause to the new school baking champion.

  Supergirl : [Esme holds up her stuffed zebra with a blue ribbon on it]  Hurray!

  William Dey : [high-fiving]  Put her there.

  Lena Luthor : That's a perfect kickoff to the big party tonight.

  Kelly Olsen : About that, our sitter just called out sick with the stomach flu, so you'll only have Alex.

  William Dey : Oh, don't be ridiculous. I'll take care of Esme. She and I have a baker's bond, right?

  Alex Danvers : William, we wanted you at the party.

  William Dey : Please, I'm... I'm happy to help. See it as a part of a wedding gift.

• Alex Danvers : Oh, hey, I got Esme's test results back. There's fifth-dimensional energy in her blood.

  Kelly Olsen : What does that mean?

  Alex Danvers : Well, that-that tattoo, it... it looked familiar.

  Kelly Olsen : Like the design on the stone in the original Love totem.

  Alex Danvers : Okay, we know the totems can be reconstituted, so... what if Esme somehow became the Love totem?
