Four years ago, 50 Cent had an epiphany about his contribution to society. "I started assessing my legacy and how I want people to remember me," he tells Rolling Stone at a press event for the second season of SundanceTV's education-based reality show Dream School. "Not as a guy who made a couple of cool songs or picked a couple of good roles in film and television, but more as someone who helped others the most. I spent so much time dealing with the business portion of the music business for [2009's] Before I Self Destruct,...

50 Cent returns to “da club” in his new video for “Don’t Worry ‘Bout It” and demonstrates he can still hustle in the clip for “Hold On.” Watch both below. Both new songs stick to 50 Cent’s traditional themes of luxurious, fast living, but in the catchy “Don’t Worry ‘Bout It,” he follows the trend of rap/singing his verses. The video for "Don’t Worry ‘Bout It" depicts 50 Cent and his crew raging in a black-lit club, while "Hold On" captures the rapper in bed with two women and cruising his hometown New York City in a fancy car and fur coat. 50 Cent will release his fifth album, “Animal Ambition,” on June 3. The album will be his first since 2009's "Before I Self Destruct” and his first as an independent artist, after announcing he’d left his longtime record label Shady/Aftermath/Interscope.

New York (AP) — After battling with his major label for years, 50 Cent has decided to become an independent artist. The rapper announced Thursday that he's leaving his longtime record label, Universal Music Group's Interscope Records, and Eminem's imprint, Shady/Aftermath. The Grammy winner and his G-Unit Records have signed a distribution agreement with Caroline, the independent label at Capital Music Group. Capitol is one of the many labels that are part of Universal Music Group. 50 Cent launched an ultra-successful, six-times platinum debut with "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" in 2003, when he burst on the music scene with Eminem as his mentor. His sophomore album, 2005's "The Massacre," was almost as successful, but other albums didn't match his previous efforts and he expressed his unhappiness with his label. 50 Cent had been planning to release a fifth album on the label, but it was set with multiple release dates and singles,...

Washington, Sept 25: Hip-hop star 50 Cent has won a legal battle for his movie 'Before I Self Destruct'.
The rapper had recorded an album with the same title until he decided to turn it into a movie, which he wrote and directed.
The movie was hit by a lawsuit from novelist Shadrach Winstead in 2010, when he alleged that the rapper stole the idea from his 2008 book, 'The Preacher's Son-But The Streets Turned Me Into A Gangster'.
Winstead claimed that the rapper "infringed the copyright by publishing and selling an audio visual work coupled with an audio recording".
But the hip-hop star has now.

Thanks to the lyrical abilities of rhyme-spitters like Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Jay-z, the rap game is alive and well in 2011. Weezy is reportedly on track to sell around 850-900k copies of Tha Carter IV, and Watch the Throne is one of rap’s most talked about albums ever (not to mention it’s pretty damn good). With such astute rappers in today’s fast-paced music world, it’s easy to forget some of the past heavy-hitters.
Some rappers inexplicably lose their luster or disappear from the public eye altogether, but occasionally they revive their careers from the grave. Take Dr. Dre, for example. The Doc released the legendary hip-hop album The Chronic way back in ’92, but his career was basically nonexistent for most of the mid-to-late 90s. That is until he met a lanky white boy from Detroit named Eminem. Finally, seven years later...

50 Cent has completed "80 percent" of his new album. The "Ok, You're Right" hitmaker revealed he's almost finished on his latest record, the follow up to 2009s "Before I Self Destruct", just a week after claiming he'd shelved a whole album's worth of material for his aborted "Black Magic" project.
"Here I am I'm back did you miss me? I was working on the album today," the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, wrote on his website. "I think I'm 80 percent done."
The record is said to be a more traditional rap album than the dance and rock music edges "Black Magic" was rumored to incorporate, however, elements he had intended for that album may be incorporated in his forthcoming record.
He said, "I moved 'Black Magic', because it's a total artist's album. It was something that I just wanted to do, so I went in and recreationally...

50 Cent consigned his "Black Magic" to "the vault" as he says he only made it "recreationally". The rapper is currently in the studio working on the follow up to his 2009 album "Before I Self Destruct", but while he originally announced this would be a rock and dance music influenced record called "Black Magic", he has since started on a different concept.
"I moved 'Black Magic', because it's a total artist's album. It was something that I just wanted to do, so I went in and recreationally made a full-bodied piece of work," he told Red Bulletin magazine. "I gave myself a new concept, so now it's in the vault."
Some aspects of the album may, however, appear on the "Baby by Me" hitmaker's next disc, as he added, "But you can build another album out of that material that you put to the side."

50 Cent is facing legal action from an author who alleges the rapper used the plot from his book as the concept for his movie and album "Before I Self Destruct". The "In da Club" hitmaker scored a chart hit with the 2009 album and turned the record into a film of the same name, which he both wrote and directed.
Novelist Shadrach Winstead has filed a lawsuit at the U.S. District Court of New Jersey alleging 50 Cent took the idea for the multi-media project from his 2008 book, "The Preacher's Son-But The Streets Turned Me Into a Gangster".

Since it was announced that Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson had launched his own film company, Cheetah Vision, we’ve been casually watching to see what kind of work this new venture would yield. The first title under the Cheetah Vision (CV) banner was something called Before I Self Destruct, which was included in his last album release (didn’t catch that). This, I believe is the second CV feature project – the recently-released crime drama titled Caught In The Crossfire, which stars Chris Klein, Adam Rodriguez, and Fiddy himself (albeit in a smaller role than I expected, although somewhat pivotal) – a film I screened last night.
I’ll skip the foreplay and get right to the grind. Call this a Twitterized review
So, how was it? Well, not bad actually! Or maybe my low expectations were simply met. But really, there was actually enough suspense to keep me mostly engaged for a lot of the film,...

Since the release of his 2009 album Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent has been traveling the world, playing shows and taking in new musical ideas. Along the way, he has been putting together music for an album called Black Magic, which was going to find 50 pulling in a number of different genres and influences (most notably from dance and rock music). But according to a recent interview, that entire project may be put on the back burner in favor of a more traditional hip-hop album.
"I've written an album that's called Black Magic, but I am not sure it will be my next album," 50 told the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone. (Portions of the interview appeared on YouTube.) "Black Magic had a different style to it, a different vibe.

Dr. Dre asked Jay-z to "come holler," and Jay delivered. The pair recorded the Detox song "Under Pressure" months ago, and an unfinished version leaked online Wednesday (June 16).
The song isn't mixed or mastered and has no chorus, but it offers more than an inkling of where the two legends are headed.
"The long-awaited Detox, bitch," Dre starts the song. "But maybe I don't wanna stop/ Maybe I don't wanna quit/ Maybe I like ho's/ Maybe I don't want a wife/ Maybe I'm psycho/ Maybe we need to breathe some life in this sh--/ Maybe we are the life of this sh--."
The chorus is conspicuously absent, then Hov comes in for the second verse.

50 Cent who is currently touring across Europe has dished on what to expect from his next studio album. Apparently being aware of what becomes today's music trend, the rap mogul said in a recent interview that he will make up-beat music for the new record.
On what made him going to that direction, the G-Unit rapper shared he was so inspired by music he heard in the European clubs while touring in the continent. "I went to a nightclub after-party. It was different music after a while," he gushed. "The music they were playin' before they were playin' the music I created was more up-tempo, more Dance."
"I wanted to make a song like that, so I went into the studio. Because I'm travelin' with my live band, I took the band with me and we sequenced it and recorded the actual record while we was out there," he continued.

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Rapper-turned-actor Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will be hitting the big screen once again. Jackson and co-producer Randall Emmett have given the go ahead for Things Fall Apart, a movie based on a football player overcoming personal obstacles. The 34-year old will play the lead role in which the character is a star running back in his senior year of college. For his character, the rapper will drop 65 pounds. Things Fall Apart will be directed by Mario Van Peebles, who will also star in the film. The start date for filming has yet to be announced. Up next, "50" will star opposite Val Kilmer in The Gun. But don't expect him to drop his music career anytime soon. He'll be hitting the road this week to support his latest rap album Before I Self Destruct.

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has been a steadily growing presence in Hollywood since his 2005 big screen debut, "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'." That first outing was a little rough, but he's since improved his game in "Righteous Kill," "Home of the Brave" and, most recently, the Sundance favorite "Twelve," which wider audiences will hopefully get to see later this year. Jackson is getting ready for his next feature now, and he'll be trading in the trademark Kevlar vest for bulkier shoulder pads and a team jersey.
The movie is "Things Fall Apart," which Jackson and partner Randall Emmett will produce through their Cheetah Vision Films label, Variety reports. The story follows a talented college football running back who "faces a personal tragedy as well as his own mortality" in his senior year. Jackson will take on the starring role; he also co-wrote the script with Brian Miller. Mario Van Peebles will direct.

Is it a warning shot? 50 Cent announced in an overseas interview Monday (December 28) that there will soon be "a visual" for his track "So Disrespectful."
The track, produced by Tha Bizness, is from the rapper's Before I Self-Destruct album and features some choice lines directed at friends-turned-foes, including the mother of his son and former G-Unit cohorts the Game and Young Buck.
"Come on, Game, you'll never be my equal/ Your homies shoot dogs, my homies shoot people," 50 raps on the song. "See, me, I'm what you never gonna be/ I'm in that tax bracket you're never gonna see."

50 Cent has spent his career diversifying, getting involved in movies, video games, TV shows, Vitamin Water, sports, self-help books, fashion and whatever else interests him at any given time. His latest venture: iPhone apps. He already debuted the "Baby by Me" mixing board app (which let users remix the first single from 50's latest album Before I Self Destruct). Now there's a companion app: The "Baby by Me" calculator. The app — which retails for 99 cents on the App Store and on iTunes — asks a series of questions that will determine what your payout would be if you did indeed have a child with the man born Curtis Jackson.
"Considering a potential jumpoff? Input a set of your suitor's qualities to find out what size check you'll be getting," the press release announcing the app reads. "Answer a set of questions and find out how much you'll be on the hook for per child.

R. Kelly's latest debuts at #4 on next week's albums chart.

Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream
Photo: Sony Music Entertainment
Chances are, there's going to be some Susan Boyle under the tree this year. The "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up is proving to be exactly the shot in the arm the sleepy music industry needed this holiday season, as her debut, I Dreamed a Dream, will easily hold onto the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart for a second week, thanks to another 527,000 units shifted.
Even with a 25 percent drop-off from her smash first-week sales — which set the high mark for a chart debut in 2009 at 701,000 — Boyle easily remained #1 as her debut steamed past the 1.2 million mark, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The only serious competition came from another Christmas must-have, tenor Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas, which saw a 97 percent sales bump to...

John Mayer scores his second No.1 album with "Battle Studies". His fourth solo studio effort rules Billboard Hot 200, selling around 286,000 copies since being released across United States on November 17. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! What a way to spend Thanksgiving," he tweeted after learning his victory on the U.S. albums chart.
Norah Jones' "The Fall" which also arrived on November 17 debuts at No. 3 with 180,000 units behind Andrea Bocelli's "My Christmas" which stays firm on the second place since last week. Rounding up the Top 5 on the chart are Casting Crowns' "Until the Whole World Hears" and 50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct" respectively.
Norah fails to follow the previous glory she experienced through "Not Too Late" which debuted atop the chart with 405,000 in February 2007. Casting Crowns, meanwhile, have their best sales week ever with 167,000. As for Fiddy, this rapper suffers the lowest opening week on his career,...

In a stunning turnabout, 50 Cent will notch the lowest chart debut of his career next week when his long-delayed Before I Self Destruct lands at #5 on comparatively soft sales of 160,000. After his first two albums hit #1, selling 872,000 (Get Rich or Die Tryin') and 1.15 million (The Massacre), and 2007's Curtis sold 691,000 following an infamous chart battle with Kanye West, this fifth-place finish is a major comedown.
Who bested the once-dominant G-Unit General? According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Twitter-lover John Mayer's Battle Studies took the top spot with sales of 286,000, followed by My Christmas by tenor Andrea Bocelli (185,000), the debut of Norah Jones' rock-tinged Fall (180,000) and Christian rock group Casting Crowns' Until the Whole World Hears (167,000).

Micro-video site Vidly (formerly TwitVid.io) has launched its new video commenting feature Vidly Express with the help of a rapper Chamillionaire. As you can see on his Web site, the feature allows users to record a video reply instead of posting one in text. And as you can also see by the video comments left in the hours since the feature went live, it's mostly silly kids goofing around in the Apple Store, talking to Chamillionaire like they know him or not talking at all. What's next, a video reply of someone screaming, "First!"?

"It's exciting," he said of the 2009 AMAs, walking down the red carpet alongside a grinning Kilmer, who could best be described as being...

The Guidelines: random notes from pop culture
There are copious strings to 50 Cent's platinum bow. As well as being a rapper, self-help guru and inspiration to many, he's an actor and videogame voiceover artiste. Recently added to that list is "short film auteur". Before I Self Destruct is a semi-autobiographical tale of murder and revenge – with added lesbian sex scenes – which will be included with Fiddy's forthcoming album of the same name, creating a whole new genre: straight to CD. Here's how to make your own ...
When To Do It
There comes a point in the career trajectory of major pop stars when the people employed to say "no" to things become surplus to requirements. Without them, ill-advised concept albums are recorded, strange product endorsements are accepted, or, in extreme cases, diamond-encrusted necklaces shaped like a weeping Virgin Mary are worn to display your love of religion. It's at this...

50 Cent says Before I Self Destruct is no different from his other three solo LPs; he feels like his back is against the wall every time he releases a new album.
"Absolutely, every project is the same for me," he told MTV News. "It feels like I'm back in the underdog space because I feel that doubt from the public where they go, 'Do you think he can do it again?' [They doubt you can] return to that space where you're generating that interest as before. Not the actual sales, not how people feel about you generally, but overall does it feel the way it felt in 2003? ... But I told them ahead of time, actually getting a chance to hear the record, is that this album was arguably...

50 Cent has been in full promo mode the past few weeks, pushing his album Before I Self Destruct. He did take some time off this past weekend, visiting the Las Vegas mansion of his friend Floyd "Money" Mayweather. Fif brought along Tia Kemp and her children, one of whom is the young son of 50 rival Rick Ross.
In footage that was released this week on ThisIs50.com, Fif is seen in the house taking pictures with Mayweather, and even Diddy pops up in the mix. Later, we see 50 and Floyd chop it up at a kitchen table with "Law Abiding Citizen" director F. Gary Gray.
Later, the boxing champ can't resist pulling out $100,000 in bills.

Rapper cracked jokes about Bette Midler, his new fragrance and beef with Canadian kids on Tuesday's show.

For all of the beef 50 Cent seems to find himself in, the guy actually has a pretty acute sense of humor. Those looking for proof need only watch his appearance on Tuesday night's episode of "The Tonight Show," in which 50 goofed around amiably with host Conan O'Brien for the better part of 10 minutes.
O'Brien touched on a number of topics, some more sensitive than others. He began by asking 50 about a photo snapped of him with his arm around Bette Midler. The two collaborated on restoring a park in 50's old neighborhood, and the rapper joked that he knew he had arrived at another level of fame when he had his picture taken with the veteran diva.

Four months after Soulja Boy got his iPhone app--which let users remix his songs--50 Cent gets his, dubbed "50's Sound Lab."
Only 50 Cent's app is part of a marketing campaign for Vitamin Water. Like Soulja Boy's remixer, the older rapper's free app uses Moderati's music remixing platform Romplr, but users can only mix one song: "Baby By Me," 50 Cent's first single from his latest album, Before I Self Destruct. You can then post your creation on Facebook, send it to a friend, or enter the contest for a shot at winning a trip to NYC to meet the rapper and New York Times bestselling author (for his book, The 50th Law.) 50 Cent will supposedly even pick out the best remix himself.
Even though the actual app and contest have little to do with Vitamin Water (the "flavor creator" Facebook app was way cooler), at least we got a kick...

'This is what keeps me down to Earth and working,' Fif says of his 'Psycho' collaborator.

50 Cent says "Psycho," from his new Before I Self Destruct album, is totally different from "Patiently Waiting," even though the tracks feature the same collaborator, more or less.
"Well, 'Patiently Waiting' I perform with Eminem. On ['Psycho'], off of Before I Self Destruct, is 50 Cent and Slim Shady," he explained. "He has an alter ego, and he has a comfort with doing things [that] are the craziest things possible. That's when the chainsaw comes out. He starts going nuts on you. I wanted him to be able to go to that space, so I worked the chorus and he heard the chorus and he's like, 'Yo, I like that.' I actually recorded ['Psycho'] in Las Vegas. Dre produced the track, we had a bunch of producers out there,...

"What I realized translated most through my material is the aggression, and the people miss it because the other artists don't come from the same type of background or lifestyle. They don't want that from those artists. You know, what they would knock me for is if I sung on a record — 'Oh, 50 is singing on a record' — they get upset when I use the melody. I've been encouraged to use more melody because I'm an international touring artist and I'm watching the music break language barriers, and all they can follow is melody when you go out there at different points. So I brought it, I came back, and I did different things creatively and they kind of resent me for what they love Drake for. It's interesting."
