Here's a small summary of the movie:
A group of friends take a yacht out to sea for some party, they're on the wrong course, crash and on a mysterious island, they chill, they get slowly picked off and killed by some man-beasts, the lone survivor is left alone to fend for herself, and after proving she's a badass by killing off the alpha of the beasts, she sets to head back home on her own.
Tell me, does this sound familiar to you?
Yeah, if it dos, that' because this movie essentially rips off Predator and The Descent, and a few other films that ring extremely familiar.
I recall seeing this movie back when it was released theatrically in Mexico (yeah, they do that), and we actually only saw this, for some bizarre reason, because the latest Resident Evil movie was sold out. Boy did we wish we had just come back another day for RE instead, but because my brother and I didn't want to make the trip for nothing, we settled for this underwhelming garbage instead.
Ignoring the other films it rips off, because you just can't anyway, The Forgotten Ones (or whatever of the 2-3 other titles is wants to be called by) is just an abysmal and boring waste of time.
The plot just centers around these four completely underdeveloped people (whose names I didn't even care to remember, that's how much depth they lacked) that are going out on a yacht for some party or celebration, and the lead's boyfriend is acting rather shady around her. Guess what? He's cheating on her. Guess what else? The girlfriend is suspicious about it, she wants to check his phone (for justified reasons), and then in a conflict the phone heads down the sea for Ariel's collection. Oh and guess what else? Despite the shady phone business, he proposes to her and she accepts. The cheating never gets brought back up again, by the way.
I also don't recognize any of the actors on this list other than Kellan Lutz (of Twilight fame), who for some reason is on one of the creepy-looking posters of the movie despite not being the main character or even important to the movie's overall plot. If you ask me, the After Dusk They Come poster looks more like one of those uncomfortable book covers from the mystery genre. The acting is just bad, and that's all there is to it.
So then they go off course, which they were warned about it, and surprise, surprise they crash onto land. They're rather chill about it, and then the real stress starts happening, and they are getting killed off slowly by the mysterious man beast-like predators.
The beasts are not very cool looking, and trust me, the opening sequence of the movie really tried to sell you how much work went into the creature designs. They looked just like the Predator, but with weird, ape-like bone features. I also want to emphasize how mysterious they are, because the film offers you no explanation, history, or mythos to them at all. They were supposed to with another group that had come across the island before the leads, but that didn't go anywhere either.
In the end, you can kinda just guess where it goes from there, after all her buddies get killed off, she becomes "the final girl" I guess, covers herself in tree sap since the creatures can't find/smell her (because they really needed to remind us how much of a Predator rip off this is), hunts down the beasts herself with a machete she found in the old campsite of the explorers (mind you it's somehow not rusted or dulled out), comes to a final "showdown" with the alpha of this tribe, kills him, and the other beasts back away from her, because she's now the alpha.
It all ends with her smashing the radio that finally makes contact with them, her only chance of getting home SAFELY (in her defense, she and her group tried various times to get in touch, but that doesn't justify the act), and just paddles her way out to see with an inflatable boat and a plastic paddle. That's it.
Yeah, so I'll ask again, does this SOUN FAMILIAR? Does this even sound interesting at all?
The film is a mess of other, far better movie plots slapped together, and without even the fun of it there. It almost felt like the creators of this were just making this movie just because they wanted to, and not because they were passionate about it or even had a drive to create something more memorable. I only even remembered this trash because I actually caught the immediate remake on TV a while back. Oh yeah, I should point out that apparently even the production team behind this weren't happy with their own work, they they remade it the year after, which should tell you more about the quality of this film.
This isn't even bad enough to be good, and it'll live up to its name as forgotten. Just a boring waste of your life.
