I AGREE with Patrick Toche's review
mjonczak-114 July 2009
The movie was definitely LAME. The sound track was so poor that I tried to access the Main Menu in an attempt to "add subtitles." Sorry! No subtitles. I should have hit the stop button and watched an old episode of Gunsmoke.

The storyline had to be written as they were filming. I should have followed my instincts when I didn't understand what was happening in the first five minutes BEFORE the title of the movie came on the screen. But, you know when a movie starts out bad; but has an interesting concept, you want to give it a chance? Big mistake! If you're interested in "head shots," nudity and the F-bomb (5-6 times) then this is your movie. If you like a good storyline and entertainment, then you'd better look for another movie.

So bad its just... bad
md-ulus-n25 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I would give this one star, but, I dunno, I feel sorry for the people who made it.

I don't know what happened, I think somebody wanted this hot Mexican chick and killed some people. In the meantime, there was a lot of canned dialog. Then the guy who wanted the chick was tortured. It was gross, but so unrealistic I wasn't bothered by it.

This is what a movie made in Iraq would be like, I think they just got people off the street who looked hungry and told them if they acted in this movie they would feed them a big mac.

Not only is it bad content, the quality of the image is similar to a VHS home video.

All in all, just don't waste the gas driving somewhere then taking this back with you.

It's a $60,000 dollar movie!

Robert Conway, bless his heart, attempts to make another western. The casting director in his westerns should be given 52 weeks of vacation.

One would think he could find one decent actor to play a bad guy that was believable in his or her role.

After watching western movies for over 65 years, know a good one from a bad one and this is a bad one. I do have to give Mr. Conway credit for his efforts and would suggest he may want to think about letting someone else handle the writing and especially the casting. The actor that played the Captain is not and never will be a convincing actor, especially in a western.

I will give him credit for scenery and beautiful landscaping shots.

There was no redemption for this movie.
bill-109214 September 2009
I accidentally rented this movie in the redbox tonight. What a mistake. I will definitely be more careful next time. This movie sucked so bad that you could actually hear the air leaving the room. I've seen better movies made by the av club of a local high school. The only redemption this movie got was in the period clothing. Characters were shallow, plot was non-existent, and acting...... Was there any? After watching this morning, I felt like I'd been gut shot.Too bad the Apostle couldn't have put me out of my misery like he did the star. I wish I could meet the person that put their money up to make this crapfest. If they bought into this movie, maybe they'll buy the beach front property I have in Kansas.

killer on a rampage in search of a stolen Mexican girl
ptoche21 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This movie must fall in the "so bad it's good category." It's a poor movie in every way: poor script, poor direction, poor photography, and generally poor acting -- though to be fair the main actor is doing his best.

This good-looking guy shows up in this God-forsaken place in search of a Mexican girl, to take her back presumably to somewhere she'd rather be. She is currently a prostitute. On his way to the girl, a few guys are killed, spoof-like. Will the girl be saved? Will the guy outsmart enemies? If you really want to find out, there are two ways: either watch the movie or read on...

SPOILERS BELOW: On his way to the Mexican girl, much loss of life. One guy's buried alive, and later shot, in an after-thought sort of way. When the guy finally finds the Mexican girl, she turns out to be this cute, helpless teenager. He falls in love with her in a matter of seconds, and naturally proceeds to bed her. There is an age difference. Plus she looks great and clean, while he's very rough-edged and hasn't had a bath. Not for the faint-hearted.

Later on the guy admits to the Mexican girl that he's the one who killed her family. She's obviously turned off (who wouldn't, especially after a night of sex), but somehow inexplicably later changes her mind and is to be seen by his side as he lay dying.

I couldn't work out whether the guy had a foot (or two) hacked off by a psychopathic doctor. I couldn't be bothered to rewind and play it in slow motion. I'd rather live in this limbo where the possibility is there and the certainty isn't.

On the whole, a movie to be watched high or not at all.

Non-redeeming
TheLittleSongbird26 November 2019
Hopes were not high when deciding to watch 'Redemption'. The premise intrigued a little, though it did sound silly at the same time so it was clear to me that it was not a film to be taken too seriously. What made me hear of it and decide to watch it in the first place was when it appeared in the more like this section for another film (cannot remember which one, have seen and reviewed too many films recently and have had a lot going on).

Despite watching without any prejudice and without wanting or aiming to dislike it go from the get go, 'Redemption' badly failed on every level. Really did try to take it for what it was and what it was trying to be, but 'Redemption' just executed all its components poorly and completely detracted from getting anything from it. If enough of the components were executed halfway competently, this reviewer would have been more forgiving towards the film and would have found it easier to judge it on whether it succeeded or not in what it was trying to do. Couldn't do either.

'Redemption' is poorly made visually. With every aspect of the production values being drab to the point of dreariness and very poorly focused to the point of chaos. The sound is intrusive and obvious, which are two of the last things audio should be like really. The script completely lacks tautness and has a lot of unintentional humour that goes so overboard it becomes exhausting rather than entertaining.

Didn't detect much directing here, stylistically and visually 'Redemption' is a complete failure on this front and in terms of making the film dramatically compelling it fares abysmally on that front, one can't call it ill at ease, out of their depth or inexperienced because it feels more like non-tryer execution. The thrills are non-existent and it's just too predictable to be suspenseful, too dreary to be tense, too ridiculous to be unsettling and too personality-void to be fun, and that is when any kind of discernible story is obvious as the story is far too thin with many dull over-stretched stretches.

None of the characters are remotely interesting and are so one-note. Although Dustin Leighton tries his best, the cast consists of actors that clearly wanted to be somewhere else.

Summing up, a complete failure. 1/10

I've seen some pretty bad westerns, but......
traci2298 June 2010
This may actually be the worst one I've ever seen, and among the worst movies I've seen in general.

Where do I even begin? The acting was horrible (can you say overacting?), the plot was weak and the dialog sucked. And don't even get me started on the accents. I felt like I was watching a first semester community college acting class. For those who actually thought this was a really good Western, I can only assume that you don't rent a lot of good ones.

The only good thing I could find about this movie was the fact that it was so terrible, it was actually funny, although I'm sure that's not what the director was going for.

Better Than A Lot
hackraytex12 June 2017
I am not knocking Netflix but one of the reasons I keep the old school service of renting DVD's is so I can access movies that don't seem to be available from other sources. That in mind, I am prepared to see a lot of movies that that I probably would not see from anywhere else not even on cable.

Redemption is better than a lot of the westerns that I get to see through this service. The sets, costuming, and acting are pretty good. I am only disappointed by two things: when it was supposed to be dark, it was too dark to see anything. Also, not to appear morbid, no one explained why the dead woman was tied to a stake in the street.

Good job on a very limited budget.

American flag with 50 stars on it
GaneyAcres14 August 2009
My husband and I just watched Redemption last night. I saw a big "goof". Did anyone else notice the two shots with the American flag? It has 50 stars on it! Last I knew from my history classes, back in the late 1800's, the United States did not have 50 states, yet! Most of the props, that I noticed, did seem like they were dated correctly. I hate to watch movies where the props are not dated right. Some of the language was modern day. My husband really liked the realism of this movie, and he is somewhat of a western movie buff. He enjoyed the fact that they wore their guns where they were supposed to. At least when the guy got hurt, he stayed hurt and limped around, not like those action movies where they heal and don't feel any pain. I wish life was like that! I loved Capt. Till's hair! Great perm! It wasn't all that bad, I've seen worse. All in all, it was worth the $1.00 at Red Box. I would not pay $5.00 for it on Direct TV!

Good western
powellryan4620 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
It was a good western to the end. Lots of nudity and more violence then i expected as well. It has the look and feel of the ol "Spaghetti" Westerns shot in Spain in the 1960's. Same ol revenge plot that always worked in those films works here but it has a cool and original enough ending to make it stand out. I don't think it had a huge budget but the locations are very kool as well. The priest character is very cool and well preformed. By far the most interesting I think. No big stars but solid performers and cool camera work/editing/exct.. Good gun battles and other cool effects. I don't know who many theater houses will show it but it was worth checking out if you love westerns.
