After seven long years, Alien: Romulus takes fans back to the Alien franchise which features the struggles of humanity against the Xenomorph. The film follows a group of space colonists who stumble upon something far worse than a lack of Wi-Fi – a terrifying alien life form.

Director Fede Alvarez, known for his bone-chilling films, added a whole new layer of terror to the movie, with his use of practical effects. He is raising the scare factor with the practical effects of Facehugger, which is his creepy crawly companion.

One of my favorite horror films of the year thus far, Infested pits an eclectic group of apartment tenants against rapidly reproducing spiders. As thought-provoking as it is palpably horrifying, Infested has now skittered onto Shudder, and I had the pleasure of catching up with director/co-writer Sébastien Vaniček in a video interview to discuss his new movie, including the spider-centric research that went into the making of the film's realistic effects, the movie's exploration of socioeconomic divisions, as well as the excellent performances from the cast, and Sébastien also shared his excitement for his upcoming Evil Dead movie!
Synopsis: "Kaleb is about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over an inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend. Fascinated by exotic animals, he finds a venomous spider in a shop and brings it back to his apartment. It only takes a...

Since the moon that served as a setting for Alien and Aliens was known as Lv-426, April 26th – or 4/26 – is considered to be “Alien Day.” To celebrate the day, director Fede Álvarez – whose contribution to the franchise, the film Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here) – shared a behind-the-scenes video that shows him playing with one of the remote controlled Facehuggers that were built for his movie. Plot: A deaf and mute warrior (Bill Skarsgård) raised by a mysterious shaman (The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian) attempts to topple a repressive regime.
Review: Last year, Bill Skarsgård played a suave villain in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 4, but notably stayed out of the action scenes. Had the movie been released after Boy Kills World, I think the part would have been radically reimagined, with the actor putting himself through the kind of physical transformation that changes careers. Watching the hulking, 6’3 actor blast his way through opponents in Boy Kills World, it’s hard to believe that the same guy, just a few years ago, was best known as Pennywise the Clown. Indeed, Boy Kills World is the perfect launchpad for Bill Skarsgård to become a major action hero (it bodes well for his next film – the remake of The Crow).

Sam Raimi has handpicked another heir apparent to the “Evil Dead” franchise. Deadline reports that “The Last Stop In Yuma County” director Francis Galluppi follows in the footsteps of Fede Álvarez and Lee Cronin as the next up-and-comer to take the reins on the long-running horror series. And from the sounds of things, it’s another fresh start for the Deadites: an original story developed by Galluppi with no connection to last year’s “Evil Dead Rise.”

Galluppi will write and direct the new film through Raimi and Robert Tapert‘s Ghost House Pictures. It’s still early stages, however, so it’s unclear who else will be involved on the production end. Feel free to speculate away about the setting for this installment.

"Evil Dead" fans had to wait a full decade between movies following the release of Fede Álvarez's 2013 entry in the long-running horror franchise. It seems the powers that be have no interest in making anyone wait that long again. To that end, we've learned that Francis Galluppi ("The Last Stop in Yuma County") has been tapped to write and direct a new movie set within the universe of Sam Raimi's original 1981 horror classic.
According to Deadline, Galluppi developed the idea and brought it to Raimi's team. They sparked to it and now it's officially in the works. No plot details have been revealed but it is described as an original story set within the "Evil Dead" universe. There's also no word yet on casting or anything like that -- meaning, it's unclear if any familiar characters will be included in this new installment. Rami had this to say...

In the build-up to the release of Evil Dead Rise (read our review right Here) last year, Evil Dead franchise rights holders Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert let it be known that they were already looking forward to producing more entries in the series, with Campbell revealing they were hoping to make a new sequel / spin-off every two or three years. To prove that they’re dedicated to pumping Evil Dead movies out at a fast and furious pace now, Raimi and Taper’s company Ghost House Pictures just announced to Deadline that they have hired Francis Galluppi to write and direct a new Evil Dead movie, even though they just hired Infested director Sébastien Vaniček to start working on his own Evil Dead movie at the start of February!

Just a couple months after we learned that Sébastien Vaniček is directing the next installment in the Evil Dead film franchise, we’ve learned today that it’s not even the only new Evil Dead movie that’s currently in the works!
Deadline reports today that Ghost House Pictures has just hired Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) to write and direct yet another brand new Evil Dead movie!
Deadline adds, “The project is described as an original story that Galluppi developed and brought to Raimi and team. No word on a plot or who will be producing, as it’s early days here.”
It’s similarly early days for Sébastien Vaniček’s untitled Evil Dead movie, which we know nothing about at this time. But stay tuned for more reporting as we learn more on both films.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sting was pitting an oversized spider against the inhabitants of an NYC apartment building. Now we have Infested, which pits the inhabitants of a French housing project against a horde of arachnids. Arachnids that the prologue implies are both deadly and in demand.
One of the people that demand comes from is Kaleb. He’s a young man trying to make a living hustling sneakers and whatever else he can make a quick profit from. It’s not exactly a thriving business, and he’s stuck living with his sister Manon in the rundown apartment they inherited from their mother. Adding to his unhappiness is a falling out with his long time friend Jordy.

In an odd quirk of distribution timing, this month has seen the arrival of no less than two imported, semi-comedic thrillers featuring decrepit apartment building invaded by giant spiders. Already playing U.S. theaters is the Australian “Sting,” which is fun, if formulaic. In a whole other class, however, is French “Infested,” a first feature by director Sebastien Vanicek following several impressive shorts. An instant minor genre classic, it is fun and then some — a conceptually unremarkable but resourceful, energetic, stylish and good-humored creature feature with above-average human character interest.
That achievement has been duly noted: Intended as a streaming premiere, “Vermines” (the original title) pleased its producer such that he apparently insisted on a home-turf theatrical release, despite the long delay that imposes on its launch in other formats under French law. It’s seen big-screen release in numerous nations since late last year, though in the U.S.

The Wattpad/Webtoons and Grave Weaver-created series “I’m the Grim Reaper” is nearing its 200th episode, and it’s also getting a new TV series adaptation with talented names behind it. Deadline reports that celebrated filmmaker Sam Raimi is teaming up with 10 Cloverfield Lane scribes Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken on the new series.
The series follows “Scarlet, a young woman who wakes up in the ninth circle of hell with no idea how she got there. Satan offers to send Scarlet back to Earth if she’ll work as his reaper. But it doesn’t take long for Scarlet to realize that Satan’s offer is even worse than she feared.”
The story is said to fit perfectly into “Raimi’s wheelhouse, striking a deft balance between scares, gore and humor.”
Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi will executive produce the series with Weaver, who’ll also team on the development process.

Sam Raimi has been one of the biggest fan picks when it comes to helming for the MCU, and the Spider-Man trilogy he helmed for Tobey Maguire’s superhit saga is one of the major reasons why. Not only does the filmmaker have incredible ideas for his projects, but his mere creative way of operating while working is what sets him apart from all the other masterminds in Hollywood.

This stands even stronger after Raimi recently, once again, shared his plans for a fourth film of Maguire’s iconic web-slinger, leaving fans more impressed than ever before. If anything, this latest pitch of his just proves that not only does he deserve to make another Peter Parker film with Maguire, but also that he is quite literally the best man Marvel can hire for the job.

Blending elements of road thrillers like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and demonic horror like “Evil Dead,” Malone’s story is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.

Working closely with Malone, Vault will launch the story first as a graphic novel, set for publication in 2025. Meanwhile, Post Malone, Platinum Dunes and Vault will concurrently develop a feature film adaptation.

There is a lot that can be and has been said about the dance scenes in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Little of it has been positive in the 17(!) years since the movie’s release. Undeniably leaning into the director’s goofier comic sensibility, the film twice detours from its dour tone—which begins when Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) dons the bad juju vibes of an alien symbiote—in order to have a laugh-out-loud dance break. In one sequence near the end of the second act, and after Peter has permanently scarred and attempted to kill his Bff (James Franco), Maguire’s protagonist struts down the streets of New York City to James Brown. The strut then becomes a full on disco-like routine after he upgrades to an all-black suit.
Several minutes later, Spider-Man 3 further ups the camp factor by seeing symbiote-influenced Peter attempt to make Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst...

There are a few characters in movies that are so popular, like Alien, first introduced in the 1979 Ridley Scott movie. This creature, known as Xenomorph, has appeared in several movies and many games throughout the years. 20th Century Studios recently revealed the trailer for Alien: Romulus, the new entry in this legendary franchise.
Federico Álvarez, the director of the Evil Dead remake, will direct this film, which will release in August of this year with a whole new cast. These are five games that match the movie’s atmosphere.
Alien: Romulus is looking to bring the franchise back to its original setting Alien Romulus the new game about this popular character will be released on August this year.
Ridley Scott’s original universe serves as the basis for an incredible number of games based on the popular character Alien. Generic movie titles like Alien Infestation, Alien vs. Predator (1993), and many more.

Four months. We’re now just four months away from the return of the Alien franchise with brand new movie Alien: Romulus, wherein director Fede Alvarez will put his own personal stamp on the terrifying sci-fi saga. Disney presented some new footage at CinemaCon last night, though the footage unfortunately isn’t available online.
That being said, we do at least have some footage descriptions from various outlets that were in attendance at CinemaCon. And there’s a common thread in the many descriptions that we’ve been reading. As promised by Alvarez, Alien: Romulus is a practical effects-heavy affair!
Collider’s Steven Weintraub tweets, for starters, “The Alien: Romulus [CinemaCon] scenes are brutal and scary and exactly what I wanted. The practical effects and sets looked great.”
That Hashtag Show’s Hunter Bolding tweets, “Alien: Romulus, from the small amount of footage we were shown, looks like a return to Alien being horrifying.

Ask Bruce Campbell, and he’ll tell you he’s “sick of over-trained heroes. I’m really bored with that. Guys that are just ripped to shreds and, you know, full of skills. That’s boring to me. Give me the mechanic that picks up a weapon, you know? Now I’m interested. That’s my hero. That could be me.”
Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise is that hero. Part of the lasting appeal of the best character Bruce Campbell has ever played is that the audience can see themselves in him, like if they were pressed into fighting an army of Deadites, they could take up the mantle, the chainsaw, the boomstick, and mow down wave after wave of the undead masses.
He is a man that should have been an A-List superstar and in the eyes of his fanbase he is…. which is all that really matters in the end.

Disney entertained the CinemaCon crowd in Las Vegas on Thursday with 75 minutes of footage including big crowd-pleasers Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Alien: Romulus, and an appearance by Dwayne Johnson to promote Moana 2.

In “Sting,” a giant-spider-grows-in-Brooklyn thriller that’s cheeky, bloody, and (most important) very gooey, Sting is the name given by Charlotte (Alyla Browne), a precocious tween, to the elegant two-inch-long black spider that becomes her pet (she keeps it in a jar and feeds it bugs). Yet given how much slaughter is caused by this omnivorous arachnid, which grows bigger and bigger with each feeding, the moniker turns out to be a major understatement. It’s as if Jason Vorhees were named “Paper Cut.”
“Sting” is a wee sliver of a horror film that’s tongue-in-cheek but also quite matter-of-fact about its creature-feature jokiness. It’s the monster-bug thriller as light dessert. The spider, it turns out, is an alien — after a gruesome prologue with lots of whooshing “Evil Dead” camera movement, the movie cuts to four days earlier, when a fiery meteorite crashes through an apartment roof in South...

Last month, 20th Century Studios unveiled a teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise that is set to reach theatres on August 16th. (You can watch the teaser Here.) With the release date just four months away, Alien: Romulus received some love during the Disney panel at CinemaCon.
An exclusive extended scene from Alien: Romulus was screened a CinemaCon which followed Cailee Spaeny’s character wandering through a broken-down spaceship corridor with Aileen Wu’s character. They see a ripped-apart android among the debris. David Jonsson’s character, who is an android himself, is rebooting with an interesting effect in his eyes, but at that moment, a swarm of face-huggers burst into the room, chasing the characters out. We saw a bit of this scene in the teaser.

The venerable “Alien” franchise has nearly 10 films under its belt and, somehow, every time a space crew member’s chest bursts open and a horrifying little creature crawls out we’re still terrified.
Such was the case on Thursday at CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas, where Disney showed off an extended look at its latest entry “Alien: Romulus.” Directed by Fede Álvarez, the movie follows a group of solar explorers who stumble on an abandoned space station. Guess what’s on board?
Cailee Spaeny leads a next-gen cast of unfortunate souls that must contend with creatures with fun names like facehuggers and Xenomorphs. An extended trailer shows the team navigating dilapidated terrain as tensions escalate, bodies pile up, bones crack and blood starts to spill.

Director Fede Álvarez (2013's "Evil Dead") is looking to revitalize the "Alien" franchise with his new film: "Alien: Romulus." No, "Romulus" isn't hinting at a "Star Trek" crossover, but it does feature rising stars like Cailee Spaeney ("Priscilla") and Isabella Merced (2025's "Superman").
After the mood-setting first trailer for "Alien: Romulus" and some positive buzz (including recruiting the effects team from "Aliens" who built the Xenomorph Queen), /Film's Ryan Scott caught another glimpse of "Romulus" at CinemaCon during the presentation by 20th Century Studios' parent company, Disney.
Set between the events of 1979's "Alien" and 1986's "Aliens," the film features its young stars dodging aliens — from facehuggers to Xenomorphs — on an otherwise empty space station (I wouldn't guess it's "abandoned" since there could be other reasons why there are no humans on board). How will "Romulus" stand out next to the previous film in the franchise, 2017's "Alien: Covenant," or indeed the original film?...

Chucky, the iconic psychopathic doll with a taste for blood, has seen some competition on his corner. In the past year alone, dancing AI Dolls, giant animatronics, and the return of the tricycle-riding clown have offered stiff competition. Yet there’s only one red-headed monster known for his comedy, his oddly progressive nature, and, of course, his super violent kills. Chucky returns for the second half of its third season and, once again, proves his dark comedy fits best on television.
Chucky Season 3 Plot
After infiltrating the White House, Chucky (Brad Dourif) continues his reign of terror. In Part 1, he already butchered multiple SNL cast members and took out high-ranking Secret Service officials. However, Chucky loses favor with his deity of choice, Damballa, causing him to age rapidly. As the Chuckster tries to stop this process, his love Tiffany Valentine – possessing the body of Jennifer Tilly – awaits execution. Nica Pierce...

Plot: Residents of a rundown French apartment building battle against an army of deadly, rapidly reproducing spiders.
Review: It’s been a long time since we were blessed with some good spider horror and right now, we’re fortunate to have multiple hitting the scene. Sting (which I highly recommend checking out Cody’s review) takes a more comedic approach, while Infested goes right for the throat. And they both have a place in our wonderful genre of horror. Because if there’s one thing that’s been missing, it’s those creepy crawlers we know as spiders.
Infested follows Kaleb and his sister as they’re trying to keep their lives together after the death of their mother. Kaleb is fascinated with bugs, and when he brings home an exotic spider, he makes the mistake of not properly caging it. What he unleashes onto his apartment complex is an...

Spiders can be scary, but it’s our reaction to them that’s traumatic.
The jolt of panic you feel when a tickle just hits wrong is a hard-wired evolutionary response that’s been explored in horror for decades. Humans developed the “Holy shit, get it off me!” feeling as a protection against the pests we can’t always see. And while hobbyists claim arachnids are misunderstood — playing a critical role opposite insects — the bone-deep distaste we have for spiders has cast as antagonists since the dawn of film. From “Tarantula!” and “Arachnophobia” to “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” if something is on eight legs and in a movie, you know what comes next.
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, and co-written by the French filmmaker and Florent Bernard, “Infested” premiered to buzzy acclaim at 2023 Venice Film Festival, got more flowers at Fantastic Fest, and screened again at The Overlook...

The upcoming MCU project ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has garnered significant attention, driven both by fan excitement and production challenges. Issues ranging from the SAG-AFTRA strike to disagreements between showrunners and the studio have impacted its development.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is one of the most talked-about upcoming MCU projects, partly due to the fan-fueled hype and partly due to its turbulent production that’s been plagued with everything from SAG-AFTRA strike to creative differences in what the showrunners wanted and what the studio wanted.
Later it was announced that the new version of the show would be more akin to the continuation of the original Netflix series, with many actors reprising their roles. Carlie Cox will return to reprise his role as Daredevil, and D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Jon Bernthal will portray Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Prince’s Iraq War-Era Plea for Peace, “United States of Division,” Finally Gets Wide Release: Stream
A rare Prince song has finally received a wide release. Titled “United States of Division,” the song originally arrived on July 4th, 2004 as the B-side to the Musicology single “Cinnamon Girl,” and only saw limited release on physical editions in the UK and Europe. Now, for the first time, it’s available on streaming platforms everywhere.
The wide release of “United States of Division” arrives via Sony, and was “sourced from the original master tapes in Prince’s legendary vault.”
Lyrically, as its title suggests, “United States of Division” is a political — albeit non-partisan — song, calling on everyone to “stop fighting,” put down their guns, and “gather round” and “make love.” Echoing the sentiments of its A-side “Cinnamon Girl,” which mourned the innocent loss of life and rise of racism that followed 9/11, the song interjects its dancey, feel-good refrains with pointed questions, like “what is this rush to declare war?...

Mardi Gras is long over, and Halloween is still months away. But over the next four days in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Overlook Film Festival will celebrate the strange and unusual with a salute to horror that couldn’t be timelier.
“As we are talking, we have just seen two brand-new horror releases — ‘Immaculate’ and ‘Late Night with the Devil’ — have the highest openings for those distributors in their histories,” festival co-director Landon Zakheim told IndieWire. [The nun nightmare, starring Sydney Sweeney, earned $5.3 million for Neon, while IFC’s supernatural talkshow took home $2.8 million, in their respective opening weekends.]
“On top of that, we’ve got the new ‘Godzilla,’ which was made by filmmakers who are alums of many festivals, including ours. And Disney is shepherding in an ‘Omen’ franchise film from a festival circuit filmmaker as well,” he said. “That’s all just if you look at the last couple of weeks.

Could the long-awaited Spider-Man 4 finally be in the works? Fans of Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire have been waiting on that chestnut for seventeen years. Now, the master of the Evil Dead is addressing the rumors!
Comicbook.com is reporting that the director hasn’t been approached officially for a new Spider-Man “yet,” but Raimi is already connected to the MCU, so that may have gotten the ball rolling:
“I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know.“
While speaking with Comicbook.com, Curt Connors himself, Dylan Baker, commented on the missed opportunity to introduce the Lizard in the unproduced Spider-Man 4.

The concept of the Multiverse, although introduced pretty early on in Phase 5 of the MCU, was properly and extensively explored in the 2022 MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where alternate realities and other dimensions were elaborated in details.
But with new avenues also came new problems in terms of tackling them, and screenwriter Michael Waldron caught a case of writer’s block when he had to kill Blackbolt in the film.

But thankfully, filmmaker Sam Raimi was there to aid him with his quick and somewhat genius idea. When Waldron posed this problem to the director, he simply suggested he let Wanda take away his mouth since Blackbolt’s superpower was his voice. While it was pretty simple, it also took away from any major confrontation, which made it somewhat counterproductive for the fans to enjoy.

As Easter Sunday approaches this weekend, we thought we’d “die” your eggs a little a differently. That is, we’re on the great hidden treasure hunt for some of the most colorful and delicious horror movie Easter eggs found in some of our favorite titles. But here’s the thing. We aren’t talking about obscure cameos from people that are hard to miss, or even secretive foreshadowing within a single movie, a la the entire Final Destination franchise. Nor are we talking about mere verbal references to other horror movies. Rather, we’re interested in visual crossover clues found one horror movie that pay homage to another, found tucked away in the background or even hidden in plain sight. You see the distinction. Good. Hopefully you haven’t already seen what’s to follow. Happy holiday y’all, here’s our Top 10 Favorite Crossover Horror Movie Easter Eggs!
