Better quality actors and it shows
abgiet19 April 2022
This movie is above average quality for hallmark. I'm a big fan of Hallmark movies but sometimes they can get a little boring and the Scripps are so G rated that the writers forget that you can still make adults witty and fun.

Thankfully in this movie, You get some witty banter. The leads actually flirt with each other versus acting like good buddies who suddenly realize that they are in love.

Plus, there is the inclusion of Tony-winner Santino Fontana as the male lead. I saw him played the lead in tootsie in 2019 before it went onto Broadway. He has such a natural gift for comedy and wit that I immediately recognized him three years later in this movie. Plus he has a great voice- if only we could actually see lounge singers that good in real life!

Well done Hallmark
Sergiodave5 April 2022
This was a really good romantic TV movie. Very original, well acted, and a bit of old Frank can never hurt. You always know how a Hallmark movie ends, but this journey was better than most. Very enjoyable.

Refreshing story telling
teresa_ramirez21 May 2022
I loved the singing in this movie. It breaks up the story telling with a nice tune every now & then and the smiles from the actors are contagious. I also enjoyed seeing ethnic characters in the lead, Italian, Jewish, Mexican, the moms were funny. The movie moved pretty fast for Hallmark, I mean he tried to kiss her on the 1st date! Lol I like these actors, they seemed more natural in their roles.

Loved it.

Finally, a Hallmark movie for modern times
omijer3 April 2022
Just One Kiss is the most welcome Hallmark movie in a very long time. It departs from every standard device that Hallmark movies have used over and over. Of course, there is the aborted kiss, and the misunderstood moment that leads to separation and reconciliation. But other than those two standard cliches, everything about this films is the most refreshing breath of fresh air in a very long time. The hero is a musician who sings the oldies in a supper club.. He actually sings old Sinatra favorites, classic love songs, and sings them well. Once in a while , there is a slight quarter note off key..but not enough to daunt the listener. Our leading lady is a single mom, in the process of completing a contentious divorce, She is actually an intelligent college professor, and not the typical Hallmark smiling blonde who is looking for romance. She teaches a course in poetry, and is the object of some very insightful comments from her students, mostly about their observation of her love life.

There is a gay couple, portrayed with incredible maturity, love, intelligence, and not in a gratuitous manner. Bravo, Hallmark! Long overdue.

Added to this wonderful mix are the two mothers of the leading actors. One is a "typical" Italian mom, the other one a "typical" Jewish mom. While their behaviors, their love of their children, their efforts to make a match happen are a bit of a cliche, the roles are beautifully played by Aida Turturro and Ileana Douglas, two very established and competent actresses. A surprise ending is very creative and very emotional, bringing tears to ones eyes.

In all, this is a mature, very intelligent movie, with some wonderful music to listen to. Even the leading lady sings and dances beautifully. The relationships are intelligent, love develops in an intelligent, sensible way. This is a definite departure from the Hallmark films we are used to . In the very best way. Hallmark, please, send us more of this kind of movie!

Pretty good
EPMD5726 July 2022
It's definitely worth watching, but all of the 10 out of 10 reviews are overselling the movie. It's good, not great.

I didn't like the bit about the mothers, although I could see lots of people enjoying them. The lead woman, though an interesting character, was overly sour. Her early exchanges with the lead man were heavily tinged with negativity. There were also a lot of coincidences (ex. Everyone bumps into each other in little old NYC) that could leave a viewer rolling their eyes.

But it's a Hallmark romance after all, and we all know the deal when watching these. I think this movie exceeds the average in this genre and delivers on the main selling points. The dialogue in the script and the acting were very good.

Worthwhile kiss
TheLittleSongbird23 May 2023
'Just One Kiss' is the second film in the newly introduced, as of 2022, Spring Into Love seasonal block that had replaced the Spring Fever/Spring Fling one(s). The first being the decent if uneven 'A Second Chance at Love'. It is always nice to have a break from the Hallmark regulars every now and again, and it was interesting to have Broadway actors/singers in the lead roles (in fact 2022 had more non-Hallmark regulars leads than most previous years). Did like the premise.

And it is done well here in 'Just One Kiss'. It is not a great or perfect film (none of the 2022 Hallmark films are, or any of their output), but as far as 2022 Hallmark films go it is one of the better ones and was refreshing. Definitely an improvement over 'A Second Chance at Love', no annoying characters for example here. Nice to have a more musical-oriented film, which really played to the two leads' significant vocal talents, and do it as well as it does. Definitely worth watching at least once.

Do agree that the misunderstanding is extremely predictable and felt very contrived, not uncommon with Hallmark but this was one of the worst faring examples of the 2022 output.

The ending did feel really rushed as well as too convenient. Do agree too that Santino Fontana had some awkward moments early on.

Having said all of that, a lot is good. It is a very attractively photographed film with lovely scenery. The music is catchy and upbeat while also having soul in all the right places, that it is exceptionally well performed by the leads (both experienced music theatre performers). Fontana's acting does improve and becomes a good deal more charming and relaxed. Krysta Rodriguez is a joy throughout and a breath of fresh air. Their chemistry is genuine and very sweet and perky, and mostly their characters were worth connecting with.

Supporting cast are all solid with no exception and their characters while typical are neither dull or irritating. The writing is playfully light-hearted while taking the more serious moments seriously, without going into morose land. The story is far from perfect or original, but it is very upbeat and energetic and the charm and warm hearted factors are very high.

Overall, liked it a good deal while not loving it. 7/10.

The best Hallmark movie in a LONG time
toncincin3 April 2022
This movie is so enjoyable. The moms are hilarious. The leads are perfect. The story progresses well. AND THE MUSIC! So refreshing. Not the typical run of the mill Hallmark romance. Laughed. Cried. Smiled. The surprise ending is the best ... played and set up quite nicely throughout the movie. This is one to watch over and over again ...

Thanks Hallmark - for FINALLY stepping out of the box and making something a little different.

it was ok
LtlHippo4 April 2022
I found him obnoxious at first. But he got better. I didn't think his singing was that great, lounge singer fit him. Not a ton of misunderstandings, that was nice. How did she jump to the dumb conclusion his sister was his girlfriend though? Loved the twist at the end.

special hallmark movie + great soundtrack
rockfever-119 May 2022
Just One kiss is a genuinely heartwarming story with a lot of charm. The soundtrack is pretty great, too. Recommend watching around the holiday tine, because why not??

Don't want to spoil anything because the writers actually put a lot of great twists and turns and the ending...

But definitely don't miss out on this one.

Just One Kiss
studioAT3 April 2023
Well, if this is the direction that Hallmark are going then come back Danica Mckellar and Jen Lilley because all is forgiven, I'm willing to forget your lesser films for the channel.

I get that the company are trying to do something different, but this for me is not the way to go. There wasn't much here that worked for me, and I didn't warm to either lead from their first scenes.

I wasn't alone in this, the person I was watching this with had a similar reaction. This was a bore.

I can see that other people liked it, especially because it was the channel trying something different, but for me I like the old format.

Hallmark Finally Breaks Out of Its Rut
vrhwxwrcy10 April 2022
After a seemingly endless run of mediocre movie plots Hallmark gives us Just One Kiss. It is full of engaging characters brought to life in a story of love lost, new love found and mothers' never ending love. Add to that a great musical plot that featured 50's and 60's standards a la Sinatra which were very enjoyable. I DVR all the movies and lately have given up on a few part way through but not Just One Kiss. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

I weep for Santino Fontana's career.
sandycelebritystalker17 July 2022
I loved Santino Fontana on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and I know he's been a Broadway star for years. His singing is matchless. I guess a gig is a gig, but this movie was just awful. All Hallmark romance movies have contrived, repetitive plots, but Just One Kiss also borrowed heavily from The Sixth Sense (?!) which is completely bizarre. Also, it was so obviously filmed in Canada (Toronto? Vancouver?) and relied heavily on stock cityscapes of New York to drive home the notion that "Yes, we're really in New York! The Big Apple! If you can make it there, etc." Not convincing. Also approriated some bits from CXGF (the black and white dancing dream sequence? Please).

I am not your standard Hallmark film viewer, and I watched this movie for Fontana only. His singing was great as usual; his character seemed to be based on the romantic leading men of mid-20th-century romances/musicals, but the writing was so hackneyed even he couldn't elevate it. I just wish he could find TV and film roles which match his talent.

Way better than previews
hypzrkunt11 April 2022
This is stupid in my brain but I enjoy this movie Avery time I watch it. Th3 music isn't one of my favorites, I assumed I would hate it for that butthetwo leads worked so well together. I will watch again.

I was sure I was going to hate this movie. While I like about half hallmark movies. Some I enjoy a lot and others are dribble. I expected dribble. Funny though I like both leads and never expected that from the previews. The singing wasn't as droning as expected. The dream sequences seemed like movie filler versus quality but at the end of the day it. Worked.

I watched it again 2 weeks later. I didn't miss much the first time, but I still really enjoyed Krysta performance. The two mothers were fun. Everyone else did well in their role.

I expected to give this a three as I watched it with my wife and enjoyed it. I enjoyed it and rated it for what it is. A very solid Hallmark movie.

New add

I watched it again 6 months later and this movie is very good. I don't like musicals but this was good and Krysta was excellent.and santino was really really good. Not my typical fair but really enjoyable. Just fo4 clarification I get no residuals if you watch.

It had to be you...sweet sentimental romance that is new but has an old feel.
cgvsluis3 April 2022
Two moms set up their romantic offspring who have both loved but had their hearts broken. Mia Rivera is a college professor of literature who was inspired in her youth by the Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet and him poem "on living". Tony Romano is a piano bar singer who wears a fedora and likes to sing the crooner classics.

"So many of us when it comes to love-the journey from aspiration to fulfillment is a very bumpy road."-Professor Rivera

Tony and Mia meet first while heckling each other in a theater and then run into each other on the street...thanks to a little help from their moms.

"I'm not in a funk."-Mia. "All hermits say that"-bff

Mia moves into Tony's appartement building with her daughter and is in the process of divorcing her good-for-nothing husband. Her daughters first friend in her new home happens to be Tony's niece who he is looking after while his sister is away.

Tony and Mia agree to be friends...and get to know each other...the rest is history!

The dedication at the end is sweet, sentimental and beautiful.

"Ralph Waldo Emerson says shallow men believe in luck, strong men believe in cause and effect."-Mia.

"Stab the body and it heals, but enter the heart and the wound lasts a lifetime."-Mineko Iwasaki

"Deny me bread, air, light, spring, but never your laughter for I will die."-Pablo Neruda

This was sweetly romantic in an old fashioned way that is very sentimental. I highly recommend this to any romantics out there.

Two Broadway veteran actors make great music and maybe a bit of romance.
TxMike3 September 2023
I admit I was skeptical of the several glowing reviews, some saying this is the best Hallmark movie they have seen. That is, until my wife and I watched it tonight. We are regular Hallmark fans and yes, this one is a definite cut above most of them. Thanks in part to casting two leads who are veteran actors and also are accomplished singers, having performed on Broadway and even as guest singers with orchestras.

Set in New York City, Krysta Rodriguez is literature professor Mia Rivera. She is just going through a painful marriage breakup and has a young daughter. Santino Fontana is lounge singer and vocal coach Tony Romano. As fate (and script) would have it, when Mia and her daughter move into a new apartment they are on the same floor as Tony. Plus Tony is caring for his niece when his sister travels on business. Having two girls of similar age help with the story arc.

Being a Hallmark movie it is about these two single adults finding each other and seeing if there is a fit. For me, a big fan of musicals, some of the best moments are when Tony is singing in his nighttime job, or for his uncle's surprise birthday, and also near the end when Tony and Mia sing a duet.

Yes, this is overall a very nice and very entertaining movie. At home streaming on Peacock.

Didn't make sense
bookandcandle4 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just One Kiss didn't make sense. Mia wants a man who is stable. That is why she wants a divorce. Her husband is an ex-alcoholic, but now has been in detox and works a full-time job. He has shaped up to be a good husband again, but she won't give him a second chance. Mia begins to date a man who sings in a nightclub, whose voice was not that exceptional, and may not have a gig in the future. How is that for stability? Her friends tell Tony that if that is all Mia is looking for, she is not worthy of him. Well, it was so important to Mia that she was divorcing her husband. Mia is back in a questionable, unstable relationship in the end. We'll see where the lounge singer is in five years. Mia will be supporting him, like she did her ex-husband.

Plus, at the start of the movie Mia was talking out loud in a movie theater and was angry at Tony for asking her to be quiet. How rude. Next her woke friend turns on the fire alarm at Mia's university to stop her from making a fool out of herself while lecturing a class. Isn't that a crime? What is Hallmark promoting these days? Certainly not good morals or decency.

Loved this movie!
garyhquinn7 April 2022
Hallmark has a hit with Just One Kiss. Diane Robin and Davide Reali wrote an enchanting story that was sweet, funny and sentimental. With a New York backdrop and Sinatra songs, it feels like an homage to Hollywood musicals. The ending had a surprising twist and left me in tears.

A Hallmark movie as it should be.
celts1-623-79638210 April 2022
The addition of Broadway actors to a few of the Hallmark movies has elevated them to another level, instead of the usual melodramas they all seem to be. Such a nice improvement.

Different from other Hallmark movies
egsfo4 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The look, the lighting, the setting, the dialogue, all feel different from other Hallmark movies but it still feels like a good romance. Two talented leads who can sing, act, and dance. A wonderful storyline, an alcoholic ex-husband, all are foreign to the usual Hallmark fare. The setting in Brooklyn, instead of the lovely small town, beautifully illustrated from the drone shots, are new, as is the dark lighting and small apartments shown. None of the usual huge, gorgeous, million-dollar mansions we see in almost every Hallmark movie. And a surprise at the end that feels touching and right instead of coming off like a cheap stunt. Bravo Hallmark!

New York, New York!
rebekahrox3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I knew this was going to be a 10 out of a 10 in the first 10 minutes. The dialogue was sharp and witty from the get go. The stars were appealing and didn't have the usual GQ male model vibe for the male or beauty pageant runway vibe for the female. Upon our first meeting with the striking Mia, an English professor, she is delivering a bitter cynical lecture on romantic poetry. Two students comment on her diatribe: "Professor Rivera needs a date." ..."Or a drink!" The girls make a few more appearances throughout the movie with their astute conclusions on the state of her love life going by the tone of her lecture. Very cute. We learn she is on her way to her lawyer to divorce her too handsome husband. He is 90 days sober but was a lying alcoholic who lost their house. He wants her back. And her tween daughter wants them back together too. She meets cute (a couple of times) with our leading man who is handsome but in a normal guy kind of way instead of looking like he just stepped out of a Vanity Fair ad. He is a lounge singer and the music is wonderful. He is a bit of a flirt and plays the field but thanks to his conversations with a good friend and bartender we know he is a good guy and a keeper.

Despite her suspicious hostile attitude towards love and romance they bond over a love for old movies and he gradually thaws her icy sarcastic façade. The romance is facilitated by their two mothers who meet in the movie theatre the two frequent and know they would be perfect for each other. "He likes her! And she HATES him!... It's perfect!"

Despite being wisely advised and cheered on by her best friend and his husband, all does not go smoothly in their enemies to friends to lovers journey. Mostly thanks to her jerk of an ex-husband and the inevitable misunderstanding with 20 minutes to go. I loved the unusual-for-Hallmark creative touches. The authentic New York vibe, the black and white dream sequences, the songs, the Greek chorus-like moms and the two female students, and even the movie poster(since replaced by a more conventional version)!

There is a cute twist at the end that was telegraphed early and often, and it just added one more unusual touch to the whole wonderful production. The cast of fresh faces have outstanding resumes, including Illeana Douglas. There were a few Hallmark veterans (Matty Finochio, David Ruttle, and Peter Benson in a short cameo.) and to my surprise, this was written by a veteran Hallmark writer. They must have told her to "do the opposite of what you think we want" or something.

Fresh, Fun and Not the Usual Hallmark
cincy-479834 April 2022
From start to end this movie had many unique elements and it largely stayed away from the Hallmark formula. Great music, dialogue was fresh and realistic. All elements of the production and acting were first class. The mothers are a very fun element. Will definitely watch again.

Best ever
w_berryman9 April 2022
I have watched hundreds of Hallmark movies, almost every night. Just One Kiss has just become my new number one. I am older(80) and this was my music. I used to play in big bands and have done a little singing. Totally enjoyed the singing by both leads, loved Krysta and my wife and I were shocked by the surprise reveal at the end.
