It’s safe to say at this point that the most well-known role of actor Samuel L. Jackson’s long and storied career is as Nick Fury in the MCU. But while that will likely remain his most recognizable character of all time, Jackson credits his leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 feature Pulp Fiction as the one that proved the biggest game-changer for his career.
Cinephiles are already aware of the lasting effect Pulp Fiction has had on pop culture and filmmaking itself. The film was only the second full-length feature Tarantino had ever made and is widely considered his best work to date. A twisting tale that deftly weaves together violence and humor, Pulp Fiction traces the journey of several characters whose lives intersect in strange and unexpected ways across Los Angeles.

James Gunn earlier revealed a first look at the Superman costume when he revealed the House of El ‘S’ symbol on Instagram. When a concept pic of David Corenswet in the complete suit, including the red and yellow ‘S’ symbol, circulated on the internet, fans believed it was an official image from the Dcu. Now, Gunn has taken to social media to clarify that the circulating image is incredible fan art.

What’s in a name? For Pluto TV, it’s everything. Next Monday, April 1, the free streaming service from Paramount, will be staging a rally to push for its namesake’s planetary status to be restored on its 10-year anniversary. Pluto was downgraded from a planet to a dwarf planet in 2006 (instantly throwing millions of us “My Very Energetic Mother Just Served Us Ninety Pizzas” users for a loop). Now, the streaming service is celebrating by literally rallying for Pluto to be named planet number nine once more. In a press release for the event, the streamer announced that its Rally to Make Pluto a Planet will take place on Monday, April 1 from 11:30 a.m. ’til 1 p.m. Pt at the UCLA Bruin Plaza. Players may make this new planet their favorite. Helldivers 2 players are hopefully getting one planet with a lush green environment, just like the ‘Space Vietnam’ or Malevelon Creek that Automatons took over on February 2024. Although it was entirely overrun by the merciless robots, rumors were that players may get a chance to liberate it at some point in the future,
All the events were revealed to be controlled by Game Master Joel. Since the name came to light, players are more than aware of the in-game conditions, as they now know that they don’t know what hell Joel would let loose while they are busy liberating a planet. For now, it seems like he’s about to throw a primordial planet towards them.

The rebooted God of War games by Santa Monica Studio are two of the most must-have experiences when it comes to gaming on the PlayStation, but for those who have still been on the fence about trying out Ragnarok due to its price, there is an ongoing deal on the console’s official store that should definitely not be missed.
Sony recently unleashed its Planet of the Discounts campaign on the online Ps Store, and along with Ragnarok, whose price has been chopped to under $40, there are some spectacular deals that cover many video game essentials.
This is the cheapest that Santa Monica’s title has ever been, so this feels like the perfect time to dive into the epic Nordic world.

“…after the events of 2017's ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, many apes societies have grown…
‘…from when ‘Caesar’ brought his people to an oasis...

Prehistoric creatures don’t come much more iconic than the Tyrannosaurus rex. There’s a reason why it’s called the “king”—the giant Cretaceous carnivore has been capturing people’s imaginations for over a century, cementing itself in pop culture in the early 1990s thanks to a scene-stealing performance in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. So, recreating the T-Rex for Life on Our Planet was no mean feat. “It’s possibly the most charismatic animal that’s ever lived,” says the series’ lead scientific researcher, Dr. Tom Fletcher. “And in many people’s eyes, it’s the most impressive animal that’s ever lived as well. So it’s some job to bring it up to date and to really do it justice.”

The projects are joined by other buzz titles such as “Into the Spiral,” from Facundo Escudero Salinas, whose thriller, “Broken,” ranks as one of the top 10 most watched Argentine films of 2023.
Also anticipated is “Planet, billed as “a vast depiction of unprecedented worldwide alien contact, exploring different cultures and societal classes through their experiences with the phenomenon,” and directed by Fredrik S. Hana, a 2022 Meliès d’Or Award for “From.Beyond.”

Anderson Cooper has spent much of his career roaming the globe, documenting the kind of stories few others are eager to cover — disease, natural disasters, genocide, war. Comfort has never been his mainstay.
But he has his moments.
In 2008, Cooper traveled to Cameroon for the CNN docuseries Planet in Peril, looking for bush hunters whom epidemiologists were following in their study of viruses that jump from animals to humans, with his longtime executive producer Charlie Moore, CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta and Gupta’s producer.
Their temporary headquarters was a ramshackle hut deep in the jungle with no cell service. Once there, they split up to find bush hunters and made a plan to reunite at the hut. Gupta and his producer returned, but didn’t find Cooper and Moore there, and worried all night about his friends in the wild. Only the next day did he wake up...

Doja Cat has everyone's attention with the spectacle of her upcoming album, which has gone through a few title changes, but will be called "Scarlet," according to her September 2023 Harper's Bazaar cover interview. After dropping the LP's first single, "Attention," on June 16, the rapper and pop star told the publication it's "kind of an intro to what's to come."
"This new album is more introspective, but I'm not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring," she said. "So I want to give stories and bops. It's a nice mixture of both. I think this project is a really fun canvas for me to play with my rap skills and talk about what's going on in my life. But I'm not abandoning who I was and what I know about pop and singing and that aspect of music."

In the premiere episode of Hulu’s “Futurama’s” revival, Planet Express delivery boy Fry (Billy West) is stunned to discover that he’s been in the century 3000 for 23 years (the fact that he hasn’t aged a day is a question not worth thinking about). Faced with an existential crisis about the years gone by, he decides to dedicate his life purpose to watching every TV show ever made, through use of the world’s “fourth most popular streaming service,” “Fulu.”
“The Impossible Stream” takes aim at the evolution of streaming culture that’s occurred since “Futurama” left airwaves back in 2013, portraying it as a chaotic, miserable space where people are constantly overworked and absolute garbage gets shoveled onto platforms to pad their libraries. In a gag that’s particularly relevant now, the writing team on soap opera “All My Circuits” get worked to literal death. Fry is eventually...

Good news, everyone! After a brief little entire decade off the air, Futurama is back, baby. Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s sci-fi follow-up to The Simpsons has once again found itself revivified, this time by Hulu.
This most recent hiatus has been the longest one by far, so you’ll be forgiven for forgetting what’s been going on 3,000 years in the future. And that’s before getting into all of the time travel, clones, robots, resurrections, and multiversal cardboard boxes. So here’s a quick refresher of everything you need to rewatch before season 11’s July 24 premiere.
Season 1 Episodes 1 & 2: “Space Pilot 3000” / “The Series Has Landed”
While the pilot focuses primarily on the first meeting of sad-sack Philip J. Fry (Billy West), space cyclops Turanga Leela (Katey Sagal), and self-avowed “lovable scamp” Bender Bending Rodriguez (John Dimaggio), it’s the follow-up episode that really sets the show in motion.

Ella Williams has readied Tomorrows’s Fire, her latest album as Squirrel Flower. The LP arrives October 13th via Polyvinyl, and along with the news, Squirrel Flower has announced a lengthy new run of international tour dates and shared two songs from the project.
Williams self-produced Tomorrows’s Fire alongside engineer Alex Farrar. Inspired by the likes of Jason Molina, Tom Waits, and Bruce Springsteen, the artist describes the record as more of a rock album than any of her folksy previous releases. The Bucheon film festival’s Network of Asian Fantastic Films project market wrapped up three days of meetings and pitching sessions on Monday with a prize ceremony that disbursed cash, post-production support and invitations to related genre film events.
“The Passport,” a Tamil- and English-language Malaysian project about an Indian rockstar who is forced to confront cultural expectations and her interactions with an imaginary friend, won the headline Bucheon Award for director Ananth Subramanian and producer Bel Choo Mun. It was both a popular choice among other Naff participants and the unanimous decision of the jury.
The numerical winner was “Please Bear With Me,” which saw director Gabriela Serrano and producer Gale Osorio from the Philippines collect three prizes. The project is a sci-fi and social issues mash-up about a call center operative who gets paid in dream-time and uses it to relive her glory days as a pop star.

The project is a sci-fi and social issues mash-up about a call center operative who gets paid in dream-time and uses it to relive her glory days as a pop star.

James Gunn has found his hero: David Corenswet has officially been cast as Clark Kent/the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. He’ll be joined by Rachel Brosnahan, who has been tapped to play Lois Lane in the DC Studios film. Gunn himself confirmed the news on Twitter, adding, “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.”
The news comes after a months-long talent search. Both Corenswet and Brosnahan’s names have been at the top of the pile since May, while Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also vying for the cape and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were up for The Daily Planet’s star reporter. Reports that Gunn and his co-dc Studios boss, Peter Safran, had screen-tested all six actors earlier this month signaled that a final decision was near.

Apple recently implemented a new feature on iPhones and Apple Watches that’s intended to automatically alert first responders if the user has been involved in a car crash. That all sounds fine and dandy, but Apple’s product team must not have had mosh pits in mind, because Bonnaroo attendees apparently made a bunch of accidental 911 calls while jamming out Thursday.
Police in Manchester, Tennessee alerted fest-goers of the fiasco on Twitter: “Mpd has responded to multiple accidental 911 calls at Bonnaroo. It’s likely that these calls are a result of ‘Crash Detection Mode,’ a new feature on Apple iPhones. Please be mindful and consider deactivating this feature on your phone until Bonnaroo concludes.” The official Bonnaroo Twitter account also chimed in: “Let’s work as a team to resolve this!”

Former Lucasfilm exec Catherine Winder, whose animation credits include Star Wars: Clone Wars, Angry Birds, Ice Age and Invincible, is teaming with veteran kids producer Annabel Slaight to launch a new digital content platform as kids anxiously confront climate change.
Potatoverse will includes short-form animation, Roblox games, podcasts and other output aimed at children and their families to generate positive climate change for a better environment. Winder and Slaight say the initiative aims to build on the imagination and enthusiasm of young audiences.
“By empowering kids to explore their own ideas while fostering a deep connection with nature, Potatoverse will be a forum for kids to contribute meaningfully as catalysts for positive change. We are filling the hope gap for children when it comes to the future. But as it should be for kids, play and fun is at the heart of everything we are doing,” Winder and Slaight said in a joint statement.

We’re at least a decade past the point at which seeing a so-called “movie star” deigning to grace the small screen could be conceived of as a novelty. Heck, we’re coming off a spring in which Harrison Ford was starring in multiple television shows at the same time.
Still, there’s an immediate pleasure that comes from witnessing former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger make a late arrival to the streaming landscape as the star of Netflix’s new action comedy Fubar.
Like his Planet Hollywood comrade Sylvester Stallone, currently getting to relive his Oscar and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot salad days on the Paramount+ dime, Schwarzenegger is using his streaming platform as something of a time machine.

Good news everyone! “Futurama” and the delivery workers of Planet Express are returning to us this summer. The revival season of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s cult classic sci-fi animated series will premiere on Hulu on July 24, Disney announced Thursday. To accompany the news, a teaser for the new season, christening the revival “Hulurama,” has been released. Watch below.
Originally a Fox series that debuted in 1999, “Futurama” has had a long and bumpy shelf life, with the new Hulu season marking the third revival for the animated series over the course of its existence. After getting canceled by the brainless drones that run the network in 2003 after four acclaimed seasons, the show eventually returned in the form of four TV movies released across 2008 and 2009, which were eventually split into four episodes each and counted as their own individual seasons. “In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends.” If you’re a geek reading Den of Geek, you probably recognize those words as the final ones between Dr. Manhattan and Adrian Veidt in Alan Moore and David Gibbons’s Watchmen. Manhattan’s statement comes as a warning to Veidt, who tried to save humanity from itself by manufacturing an alien invasion at the cost of nearly half of the world’s population. Viedt, of course, wants to know if it’s over, if he did truly save the world. But for Manhattan, who exists at all points on his timeline at once, the answer isn’t so simple. Nothing ends because nothing begins. It all simply is, at least from his perspective.

Actress Vera Farmiga, known for her starring roles in movies like The Conjuring and Up in the Air, among other films, delivered a scorching cover of Slipknot’s “Duality” on Monday night (April 17th). The performance took place during a show put on by the Rock Academy music school in Woodstock, New York.
Farmiga is no stranger to singing metal songs, having belted out Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” during previous Rock Academy shows. Her husband is Renn Hawkey, a longtime keyboardist in the industrial band Deadsy.
Prior to singing “Duality,” Farmiga told the audience, “I’ll tell you one thing: This music program is one thing we can’t get enough of. We really do have the time of our lives.”
She continued, “This is for all the chin-pressers. All the eye-pushers. The skit-scratchers. The teeth-grinders.”
The performance of “Duality” included Hawkey on keyboards.

This post contains light spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season three.
It’s a good time to be a fan of Dr. Beverly Crusher. After getting relegated to the background of the four movies released after Star Trek: The Next Generation, Starfleet’s best doctor is at the center of the current season of Star Trek: Picard. The story finds Picard and his former Number One William T. Riker coming to rescue Dr. Crusher and her best son Jack, leading to surprising revelations about her relationship with Jean-Luc. We’re only a few episodes into the season so far, but it’s already shaping up to be one of Crusher’s best stories, right up there with “Remember Me” and “The Big Goodbye.”
And it’s from that perspective that Crusher actor Gates McFadden can look back at one of her most infamous episodes. Although people of refined taste see the value in “Sub Rosa,...

A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.
The votes are in. The ballots are being counted. The clock is ticking toward Oscar Sunday (which also is the day the clock ticks ahead as daylight-saving time begins). This also means the party circuit is in full bloom, and if you wondered if anyone was still worried about Covid, as has been the case for the past two Oscar seasons due to the pandemic, well, think again. As evidence, the two celebrations I hit on Thursday night — one for the Australian Oscar nominees, the other for Irish nominees – were packed to the max, barely a mask in sight. And if anyone was worried, it seems they have decided to party hearty instead, at least until the hangover following this six-month awards season finally takes hold Monday morning.

Magazine Dreams. The Sundance Film Festival returned this year for its first in-person edition since the oblivious winter of 2020, when Zola was the talk of Park City and the coronavirus still seemed like something that Purell could contain. During two consecutive years of virtual iterations, Sundance managed to launch visionary, critically-praised narrative features onto dissimilar post-festival trajectories. Rebecca Hall’s Passing, a provocative adaptation of Nella Larsen’s novella, rode out awards season on the considerable strengths of its lead performances, only to fizzle out come Oscar time. Conversely, the Academy Awards triumph of Siân Heder’s Coda, now the first festival selection to win Best Picture, is surely fueling the daydreams of many past, present, and future Sundance-stamped filmmakers. Acquired by Apple for $25 million and showered with a $10 million awards campaign that equaled its production budget, Coda seems to offer definitive proof that no matter how visually flat and...

"Futurama" tells the story of Fry, a loveably immature goofball who accidentally freezes himself in a cryogenic chamber in the year 2000, only to be reawakened in the year 2999 in a technologically advanced future. Fry manages to hunt down a descendent of his, Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, the brilliant-yet-absent-minded mad scientist who started the interplanetary delivery service Planet Express Inc. to finance his wacky experiments. Also working for Planet Express are the cycloptic Leela, the foul-mouthed Bender, the sweet Amy Wong, the alien crustacean Zoidberg, and the ever-working Hermes Conrad. Throughout the show's run, Fry and co. went on a series of intergalactic and interdimensional adventures that are equal parts sci-fi craziness and oddball whimsy.
The show is the brainchild of "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, and he brings along his signature sense of humor that combines plenty of absurd gags and cultural satire balanced with just the right amount of heart.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Aug. 13) with 2022’s biggest week by a woman — and the second-largest week of the year overall — as the set launches atop the chart with 332,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Aug. 4, according to Luminate.
Notably, Renaissance — Beyoncé’s seventh solo No. 1 album — is the first album released by a woman in 2022 to top the Billboard 200. The last woman at No. 1 was Adele with 30, which ruled for its first six weeks on the list (charts dated Dec. 4, 2021 to Jan. 8, 2022). Notably, both 30 and Renaissance were released via Columbia Records (with Renaissance issued through Parkwood/Columbia).

There’s no getting around it — Mario Bava’s one space opera is now confirmed as a classic. Barry Sullivan and Norma Bengell must oppose invisible aliens that possess the corpses of their fellow space men. Bava’s ‘gothic’ Haunted Planet recipe just adds more weird colored lights and swirling fog to his supernatural Gothic formula. The designs are excellent and the results unique, from the odd spacecraft to the kinky costumes. The show is also genuinely influential, as should be well known to every fan of more modern sci-fi / horror films. The new HD remaster is an improvement, too!
