In this day and age, there are more films being made than ever before. It's easy to miss movies, so many audiences turn to sites like Rotten Tomatoes for guidance, though that may not necessarily have an impact on the box office. There's a common misconception about how that site works, though. The score given to each film isn't a representation of how good the movie is; instead, it represents the percentage of critics who would recommend the film overall. In other words, if half of all surveyed critics loved a movie and half of them hated it, the movie would clock in at 50% Fresh. That may not seem like a great score, but all it indicates is that a movie is polarizing; you might find yourself on either side of that divide.
With that in mind, the films on this list have near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores. That means almost...

With a minute or so to kill before the end of this year’s Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel read out a review of his performance as host of the Oscars.
Kimmel read the social media post from his phone, “Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous. Blah. Blah. Blah. Make America Great Again.”

Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan & Aamir Khan’s Debut As Hosts Was A Very Costly Affair. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan, the trio, have always been clubbed together. Be it for rivalries or some other discussion; you together call them the Khans of Bollywood. Much later, even Saif Ali Khan joined the group as the fourth Khan, but much more hesitatingly. The Khan means the trio.
Interestingly, while all three of them turned superstars with their debut films, they all belong to the same number as far as their ages are concerned. While they have seen highs and lows and fought with each other in their young days, the good part is they have stuck around each other and today share a very mature and healthy relationship.

The early days of the pandemic were like living in some unholy vortex. Stores were indefinitely shuttered. The streets were eerily abandoned. And the threat of Covid lurked around every corner. While it has been four years since those rudimentary times, and we’ve returned to some normalcy, the danger still exists in hushed whispers and the shadows that line our periphery. When I recently reflected back upon 2020, I couldn’t help but recall a pair of apocalyptic-style films that perfectly capture the paranoia and the fear that an outbreak breeds – Barry Levinson’s The Bay and John Erick Dowdle’s Quarantine.
Mutilated bodies, shared delusions, and guttural terror. I shudder to think about the last four years of living. What could have lasted only a few weeks – remember when the lockdowns were expected to last just a fortnight? – turned into four years lost. The mere notion that the pandemic...

The BBC has made the decision to pause its long-running series “Top Gear” “for the foreseeable future,” according to multiple media reports. This decision comes in the wake of a high-speed accident that involved host Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff last December.
“We’ve agreed with BBC Content that given the exceptional circumstances, we will be resting production of the Top Gear U.K. show for the foreseeable future,” a statement posted to the official “Top Gear” site reads. “We’ll continue to support the programme’s core production team and will be leaning on their expertise in a broader production capacity until such time as the U.K. show can restart.”
While filming the 34th series of the car showcase show, Flintoff was involved in an accident. The incident occurred at the show’s test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodome and resulted in Flintoff being airlifted to a hospital. In October of this year,...

Rob Savage makes scary movies.
After smashing his way into the horror scene with the pandemic chiller "Host" and the divisive horror comedy "Dashcam," Savage made his first major studio movie earlier this year with "The Boogeyman," an adaptation of the Stephen King story of the same name. And while it was a sleeper hit at the box office, the most exciting aspect of the film was that it proved Savage could take on a much bigger movie without losing his edge. This is a frightening film, one coated in dread and literal darkness, with a story just as interested in its shattered characters as its unsettling monster. Some horror directors abandon their spark when they work on a bigger, more expensive studio project. It looks like Savage thrives.

The “Drew Barrymore Show”‘s co-head writer, Cristina Kinon, is attempting to change her boss, Drew Barrymore’s decision to resume her daytime talk show on September 18.
While chatting with The Daily Beast, Kinon made efforts to send Barrymore a message after it was announced last week that the talk show would be returning amid the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which has since garnered backlash.
Although Barrymore, as a host, isn’t violating any SAG-AFTRA rules by returning to work, her talk show employs WGA writers like Kinon. As a result, it won’t be able to execute any writing work that the WGA covers.

Updated with network’s statement: NewsNation responded to Deadline’s inquiry about the criticism of a running “Oxygen Counter” the network displayed onscreen yesterday while covering the unfolding tragedy of the sub that went missing near the Titanic wreck.
According to a NewsNation spokesperson:
The oxygen levels on the Titan submersible have always been an essential and important part of this story. Multiple media outlets have published or aired stories tracking the remaining oxygen on the Titan as the search continued. In fact, it would be irresponsible not to include this information in the story of the rescue effort.

In a difficult-to-believe coincidence, Wendy Rush, wife of the OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who also piloted the still-missing submersible that was exploring the Titanic wreckage, is a descendent of two of the most famous victims from the passenger liner sinking in 1912.
That would be Isidor and Ida Straus, who were portrayed in James Cameron’s 1997 film “Titanic” as embracing in bed as the Titanic sinks.
Isidor Straus was a co-owner of Macy’s department store, making him and his wife two of the wealthiest people aboard the Titanic during its voyage. Survivors say Isidor refused to take a lifeboat seat he was offered before all women and children were helped off the ship, and Ida refused to leave without her husband of 40 years. Unlike the film, the two were seen standing on the ship’s deck as it went down rather than in their room, but they were still locked arm-in-arm.

Filmmaker Rob Savage is one of the most exciting eyes working in the horror genre today. In 2020, Host became an overnight hit for found footage horror. Last year’s Dashcam took everyone on a ride into the lowest bowels of hell. And, now, wasting zero time, he’s back with The Boogeyman, his Stephen King adaptation for 20th Century Studios.
It’s been a rollercoaster few years for the English filmmaker, and he shows no signs of slowing down, as evidenced in his latest conversation with The Losers’ Club. Last week, Savage sat down with Losers Michael Roffman and Jenn Adams to discuss his roots with King, the monster vs. the metaphor, shooting in the dark, and working with a major studio.
Elsewhere, Savage also shares a few scenes they had to cut for time, the hurdles in transitioning away from found footage, his affinity for Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining,...

Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman terrified King himself who even labelled it “extraordinary”. While the original story has been reimagined many times, often in undelightful manners, Rob’s version seems to be taking the world by storm. In the first 5-10 minutes of the film, it feels like we’re following Stephen’s story pretty accurately but then the tables take a very distinct turn. Of course, if the film had to be based solely on the source material, it would’ve been a really short one! The popcorn horror has a significant amount of psychological elements that make it more emotionally effective. This is definitely a big step forward for Rob, who began his impressive career with a found footage horror called Host. With a massive expansion of the original story, writers Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman along with Rob switch the lens to the psychiatrist Will Harper...

As one of the most prolific horror writers of all time, Stephen King has provided a veritable treasure trove of material for filmmakers looking to take a stab at the genre. For example, Rob Savage, who's best known for his Zoom-based horror movie "Host," drew on King's 1973 short story "The Boogeyman" for his 2023 feature; fans of Savage's breakout feature will recognize a meaningful Easter egg in the director's King adaptation.
Like many of the films made in this era of so-called "elevated horror," the monster in "The Boogeyman" serves as a metaphor for psychic pain. In this case, the title creature is a manifestation of grief, preying on those who have been touched by loss or sadness. In the film, "Yellowjackets" star Sophie Thatcher plays Sadie Harper, a teenage girl who has just lost her mother in a car accident. Her father (Chris Messina) is a therapist, but refuses to talk about what's happened,...

Beatts, who died in 2021, was the first woman to write for “Saturday Night Live” and helped pave the way for more women to enter the comedy field, Brandstein, who co-directed and produced the 2022 John Lennon documentary “The Lost Weekend: A Love Story,” said.

Brandstein and Beatts first worked together on the beloved 1982 series “Square Pegs” starring Sarah Jessica Parker. “[Anne] came from New York and the whole ‘SNL’ scene. I was a little in awe of her comedy credentials at that point,” Brandstein said. She teamed again with Beatts on “Just Say Julie,” starring “Earth Girls Are Easy” writer Julie Brown.

This post contains spoilers for "The Boogeyman."
After directing several short films and a 2012 feature called "Strings," Rob Savage directed television in the UK for years before breaking out in a big way with 2020's "Host," a quarantine movie about a Zoom call séance that went horribly wrong. He followed that up with the disappointing "Dashcam" a year later, but now he's back on track with "The Boogeyman," an effective horror flick that proves he can work in the big leagues.
I spoke with Savage about that transition from low-budget features into his first studio movie, as well as the film's biggest scare, staying one step ahead of audiences, a last-minute change that resulted in what he calls the movie's "best scenes," and much more.
Note: This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity.

Do you have plans for June? Cancel them. There’s simply too much to watch — at home and at the movies — for any other activities.
Returning television shows alone could keep you busy. Among favorites coming back for new seasons you’ll find The Eric Andre Show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Human Resources, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Outlander, And Just Like That, The Bear, The Witcher, Jack Ryan, and The Righteous Gemstones.
But there’s plenty of new stuff, too, to say nothing of the many movies arriving...

Rob Savage on bringing Stephen King’s The Boogeyman to life + staying true to his cinematic language
Rob Savage is a filmmaker we have been following and supporting from day one, as the talented British director has shocked and scared audiences, from his shorts to his pandemic-inspired horror flicks Host & Dashcam. Now comes his biggest production date, tasked with the wonderful challenge of helming a Stephen King story, as he brings The Boogeyman to life.
We spoke about his collaboration with King, and what it means to him on a personal level to have the keys to this specific kingdom. He also talks about remaining true to his cinematic style and ensuring his sensibilities and resourceful nature still comes through despite being in a grander, more conventional setting. He also talks about scaring people, and in particular, scaring us. Which he does really bloody well.
Watch the full interview with Rob Savage here:

Watch out. “The Boogeyman” is here.
Based on the short story by Stephen King (originally published in a 1973 issue of Playboy competitor Cavalier and collected in King’s 1978 anthology “Night Shift”), the slender story was first adapted by “A Quiet Place” writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods in 2018 for 20th Century Fox.
When Disney acquired the company in 2019, development was canceled, only to be revived in late 2021. That’s when Akeela Cooper (“Malignant”) and Mark Heyman (“Black Swan”) also took a crack at the story and Rob Savage, who had made a splash during the pandemic with his low budget horror film “Host,” was brought on as director.
The resulting film is very different from the King story, following a young girl (“Yellowjackets” breakout Sophie Thatcher) and her family (including psychiatrist dad Chris Messina and younger sister Vivien Lyra Blair) as they death both with the recent death of their...

In 2005, screenwriter and author Blake Snyder coined the term “save the cat” when referring to the beat in a story—usually very early on—in which a protagonist does something so admirable it instantly engenders audience sympathy and trust. Think Aladdin giving his only loaf of bread to two street urchins in the Disney movie, or Indiana Jones saving Alfred Molina from spiders, even after Molina’s buddy already betrayed him moments earlier, in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
While watching the opening moments of The Boogeyman, this concept popped into my head, as did the realization that there’s a reversal of it. Consider: Audiences as of late have been inundated with horror movies which want you to know immediately they’re playing for keeps, and their titular monster is the genuine thing. Hence the scene where a baby is stolen and sacrificed to the Devil in The Witch...

Above all else, The Boogeyman director Rob Savage wanted what every filmmaker longs for when adapting the work of Stephen King: his blessing. Fortunately, Savage received that and a whole lot more.
Based on King’s short story that was first published in 1973, The Boogeyman changes things up by focusing on the Harper family, as Will (Chris Messina), a therapist by trade, won’t connect with his children, Sadie (Sophie Thatcher) and Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair), in the wake of their mother’s death. The family’s disconnection then opens the door to a mysterious creature that feeds off of grief.
Written by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Mark Heyman, the horror movie, which was originally meant to be a Hulu release, wowed test audiences before its VFX were even finished, resulting in a theatrical release. Eventually, it even met the approval of King himself during his own screening in Maine.

British filmmaker Rob Savage, who previously directed an entire movie over Zoom with "Host" before overseeing the unfortunately grating horror effort "Dashcam" in 2021, is back. And this time he's helmed yet another Stephen King adaptation with "The Boogeyman."
Set free from the confines of the global pandemic and the lockdown-themed movies it inspired, Savage has proven he's perfectly capable of making a more traditional horror movie. "The Boogeyman" uses King's 1973 short story of the same name as the inciting incident for its narrative, which centers on widowed therapist Will (Chris Messina) and his two daughters Sadie (Sophie Thatcher) and Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair). As if losing their mother and seeing their father struggle to hold things together wasn't bad enough, Sadie and Sawyer then have to contend with a malicious entity that's unleashed on their home by one of Will's patients.

Of late, there’s been a trend where cameras are being replaced as mediums of video capture, and in their stead, we’re using the latest communication techniques to film an entire movie. Starting with the 2020 horror film Host, where a Zoom call among friends goes horribly wrong, the arrival of communication technology has opened doors to several movies where stories are told through webcams and similar recording devices. These movies are the next generation in the found footage genre, and if made properly, some of them can be very impressive. Nicholas D. Johnson’s mystery thriller Missing is told entirely through the webcam and similar devices of the protagonist, June Allen (Storm Reid), capturing all her emotions when her mother, Grace, goes missing. Let’s look at June’s character and analyze how she realizes how deep her mother’s love truly was for her, despite all their arguments and fights.

One day in the distant future, horror fans are going to have a rude awakening. Eventually, every single idea that Stephen King has ever committed to the page is going to be adapted into a film or television series; it's inevitable. But until that sad day comes, let's all continue to focus on what spooky King property is coming down the pipeline next.
The sparse but undeniably creepy short story "The Boogeyman" from the "Night Shift" collection is being adapted by director Rob Savage from a script by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, scribes for "A Quiet Place". Originally, the movie was set to premiere on Hulu this year until a well-received test screening and a winning endorsement from King himself convinced Disney's 20th Century Studios to release the film theatrically.

"The Boogeyman," 20th Century Studios' upcoming horror film based on the short story from Stephen King, almost didn't make it to theaters. The studio had originally planned on debuting the feature exclusively on Hulu (or Disney+ in territories without the service), but the legendary horror writer saw a personal early screening and pushed for a theatrical release. In a move that's indicative of the return of the theatrical experience in a post-pandemic world, "The Boogeyman" will now enjoy a wide release later this year on June 2.
King initially published "The Boogeyman" in 1973 before it appeared in the 1978 short story collection "Night Shift." The tale revolves around a session between the psychiatrist Dr. Harper and his patient Lester Billings as the former recounts the death of his children. The story relies on the pervasiveness of dread as Lester tragically recalls how all of his kids shouted the name of "the Boogeyman!

After teasing a snippet of their debut single “Harvest” last week, Empire State Bastard have now unleashed the full track. The outfit features singer Simon Neil and touring guitarist Mike Vennart of the Scottish band Biffy Clyro, along with legendary thrash-metal drummer Dave Lombardo.
“Harvest” is a wonderfully chaotic track that ranges from extreme grindcore screams to Pixies-inspired spoken-word verses. It’s a helluva debut single, hopefully giving us a taste of what’s to come on a potential full-length album, with the band having inked a deal with Roadrunner Records.
With Biffy Clyro one of the most popular rock bands in the UK, Empire State Bastard have already sold out a run of upcoming shows in Glasgow (March 26th), Manchester (March 27th), and London (March 28th). The Land of Smiles is trampled by an amphibious monster in Lee Thongkham and Aqing Xu’s creature-feature The Lake. After a mysterious egg washes ashore, an unknown predator rises from the Mekong River and goes on a rampage. The massive stars of this Thai-Chinese co-production are an achievement in modern kaiju effects, and a few set pieces are engaging, however the film as a whole is weighed down by a nondescript story and a cast of dreary characters.
The Lake is a contemporary update of all those straightforward kaiju classics of yesteryear, such as Mothra and Gorgo. Here a larger than life monster’s offspring is also stolen by humans, driving the parent to take drastic measures. This includes the near decimation of a Thai village toward the film’s beginning. The mayhem born from this ferocious attack alone is elevated by animatronic and suitmation effects as well as forceful editing.

Just as sure as the morning will bring the sun, so too will 2023 see the release of another Stephen King adaptation, this time in the form of "The Boogeyman." Perhaps not quite as well known as some of his other work, "The Boogeyman" originated as a short story written by the notorious vending machine hater in 1973 for Cavalier magazine, before later being featured in King's 1978 short story collection "Night Shift" along with works like "The Lawnmower Man" and "Children of the Corn." It's since been twice adapted into a short film, first by Jeff C. Schiro in 1982 and then by Gerard Lough in 2010.
The first-ever feature-length take on "The Boogeyman" began with a script draft written by "A Quiet Place" scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, with Akela Cooper of "Malignant" and "M3GAN" fame having also worked up a draft or two prior to Mark Heyman boarding the project as a writer.

Where found footage was once a revolutionary format for the digital age, our constantly rotating world is now looking to the internet for its innovation. The "screenlife" subgenre has mostly been seen through the lens of horror movies like "Unfriended," "Host," and "The Den." But it was director Aneesh Chaganty's "Searching" where it felt like I was watching something new being born. In screenlife, computers are not only used for the narrative sake of an investigative thriller, but to tell us more about the characters within. While Sick will likely gain attention for its pandemic-driven premise, the new thriller from Scream (1996) screenwriter Kevin Williamson is much more than just a current events-capitalizing scary movie. Lean, intense, and smart, it’s one of the better recent additions to the slasher genre while also being a rare film with something to say about the Covid crisis.
The film takes place in April 2020, during the early days of quarantines, lockdowns, and toilet paper scarcity. College students Parker (Gideon Adlon) and Miri (Bethlehem Million) head to a cabin in the woods to ride out the pandemic and stay safe; they’re joined by Parker’s sort-of boyfriend DJ (Dylan Sprayberry) – as well as a masked killer intent on wreaking their own deadly havoc. It’s a simple premise, knocked out in a tension-filled 82 minutes.
