The interviews given to the couples getting a divorce in the interlude scenes is similar to the interviews in interlude scenes of When Harry Met Sally... (1989). Inversely to the movie, in which the couples talk about when they first fell in love, the couples interviewed are talking about when they fell out of love.
The design on the official rubber stamp used on the divorce certificate is the monarch's coat-of-arms, showing the royal prerogative in dispensing justice, in this case at family court level.
Whilst discussing the offer of mediating, John Major (Jonny Lee Miller) is served a meal of sausages, mash, and peas, by his wife Norma (Flora Montgomery). Peas were a staple food of the Majors in "Spitting Image", representing a standard, if rather dull vegetable for the figuratively and literally grey John Major character.
