Another example of a great idea resulting in a not so great movie.
lewiskendell25 August 2010
"You think it's easy to look like a bearded tampon?"

What a weird, odd, and ultimately underwhelming mixture Operation: Endgame ended up being.

I was expecting a bloody action comedy with several really hot women and a couple of funny/interesting actors playing rival assassins who are out for blood, but instead I got a predictable, poorly scripted, ham-fisted critique on Bush-era intelligence operations. The great cast was really the only thing that made this movie somewhat worth my time. We've got Odette Yustman, Zach Galifiankis, Maggie Q, Rob Corddry, Adam Scott, Brandon T. Jackson, Emilie de Ravin, Ving Rhames, Jeffrey Tambor...it's like someone asked me personally about all the actors I'd like to see in a movie. Yet, they're utterly wasted on characters that are terribly written. It shouldn't be possible to make a mediocre movie with a cast this great, but whoever wrote the script certainly pulled it off.

The majority of the jokes are unfunny (Corddry does get a few gems, though), the fight choreography is unimpressive, and the movie as a whole would have been better without the looping real-life footage of President Obama's inauguration and the lame attempts to ground the story in some kind of political statement. I'm all for messages in movies, but Operation: Endgame goes about it without any subtlety or wit, and seemed a muddled mess as a result.

I'm giving this a high score than it deserves because I got some enjoyment just from the opportunity to see a few of the actors I'm quite fond of (good Lord, Odette Yustman looks fantastic in a tank top), but I feel pretty comfortable advising others to just skip it, entirely. It's a shame that a movie with such potential ended up stumbling in the execution.

Disappointing action movie
Nostra113 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Operation Endgame is a very strange movie. I didn't know a lot about it and when you start watching it, it seems to be a thriller about espionage, but it quickly becomes clear that it's a very violent movie in which the members of the two opposing teams attack each other with any "weapon" they can find around the office (there are no guns as they are not allowed). So think about staple removers or paper cutters. This results in some very bloody scenes.

Rob Corddry is very funny in the movie and reminded me of his role in Hot Tub Time Machine. He is very rude, but that's the reason it will make you laugh. I thought he was the best thing in this movie. There are a lot of well-known actor in this movie. Zach Galifianakis, Ving Rhames, Maggie Q (who I remember from her role in Mission Impossible III), Emilie de Ravin (Lost) and Ellen Barkin (I can't remember any movies with her in it, the last one is 1991's Switch). Don't expect to see a lot of them though as most of them get very little screen time and meet their demise very quickly. I liked the two security men who see all the action on their security system and comment on it like they are watching a sports game, they had me laughing.

The movie tries to surprise you with an unexpected twist, but by the time this happens you will not really care anymore. This movie gave me the same feeling I had with Smokin Aces 2. The different characters have so little screen time and no character development at all that you actually will not care what happens to them. Despite the humor I didn't like this movie. I thought the violence was a bit too much (and I usually don't mind watching something like this) and the story itself was almost non-existent. My advice: Avoid it!

Good for a giggle.
lonelylittlestar24 April 2013
I watched this movie purely for Emilie De Ravin as Hierophant, but let me tell you, I was pleasantly amused! I'm not a big fan of violent comedies, but if you view this as more or less an assassin parody, it's a million times better. What really makes it is the security men up watching them all kill each other and reacting the same way I did, complete with shouts of "GET HIM!" and gagging. The cast is fun, the script expectantly awful in all the right ways, but this is NOT a movie to take seriously. Watch it when you have nothing better to do and have a good laugh. The twists and turns are fun and the score is pretty easy listening as well.

Not that funny and a bit amateurish but still, quite entertaining.
imdbbl28 July 2010
Somewhere beneath Washington, D.C., an intense rivalry is heating up between two opposing teams of government assassins. The hired killers in the organizations take their names from Tarot cards. The Fool (Joe Anderson) is the latest recruit. Reporting for his first day on the job, The Fool is shocked to find that his boss is dead, and the office is on lockdown. To make matters worse, the building has been rigged with explosives, and it's going to blow soon. Now, in order to get out alive, The Fool will have to root out the killer in his midst, and make a quick escape before his co-workers catch him in their crosshairs.

Operation Endgame, a satirical workplace comedy with a slick action twist is not without it's flaws. The plot is convoluted, most of the dialog is incredibly silly and the whole thing isn't that funny. Having said that, the film is damn entertaining. The cast is composed, among others, by Zach Galifianakis, Emilie de Ravin, Maggie Q, Rob Corddry, Ellen Barkin,Bob Odenkirk, Ving Rhames. There's plenty of star power here but, while some of the actors were delightful, others were completely underused. Being a battle royale of sorts, the deaths kept piling up and therefor some brilliant actors like Bob Odenkirk (who has been phenomenal in the TV show Breaking Bad) had very little screen time.

In the end, it's all about what you're expecting. Operation Endgame is no Oscar contender. This is mindless fun with a bit of action and gore in the middle and the film clearly doesn't take itself too serious and in my opinion it succeeded in what it intended to do which is, to entertain.

Operation Endgame Sucks!
nandun511 August 2010
Every now and then there comes a movie that makes me want to write a review on; just to do the world a favor and help people save their money and time.

Do not bother with this one. It's got a good cast which tricked me into watching it. But when you take a good cast and hand it over to a developmentally retarded director, you get a movie called 'Operation endgame' The director clearly didn't know what he wanted. It was a wannabe comedy mixed with a wannabe action flick, that has no humor, little action and a wee bit of gore. It was a mess. It was so bad, that i don't even want to finish this review.

so i'll make it very simple; acting - bad, character development - there WAS none! cohesiveness - wasn't there, action - OK i suppose, comedy - bad, script - bad, plot - wtf?! overall - 2/10; only because i'm a nice guy:)

Toilet Paper Tiger
DevastationBob-323 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
On the cover you will see this movie has popular actors in it, Zach Gallifanakis, Rob Condry, Ving Rhames, Maggie Q and you may think, "I have enjoyed these actors in other roles." You will see guns and think, "I like guns and movies with guns in them, and I like likable actors using guns in movies." Do not be fooled, there are no good performances or gun-play in this movie.

There IS a bad and unfunny script. There is some attempt at tacking on a muddled political message. So if you like badly scripted, half-baked political thrillers without thrills you might enjoy this.

This movie is about two groups of covert intelligence operatives who exist only to oppose each other...that work for the same government in the same department. If you have no problem with that idea, go ahead and see this movie. Both groups are composed of unfleshed out sociopaths, so it's not really easy to care about the characters, but that's OK because apparently you're not supposed to. The dialogue has more f-words than punctuation because that makes it "edgy" and not annoying at all. It also makes for a fun drinking game, since it means you'll be in an alcohol coma before you're 10 minutes into this hunk of crap and spare yourself the pain of watching it in it's entirety.

It sorta follows the story of CLUE (better movie, see it instead!)and once the murder of the agency overseer is discovered, they pair up with their opposite (the person they've spent all their time opposing) and look for an exit from the giant bomb in the building (there is no escaping the giant bomb that is this movie). Once paired up, these top notch espionage agents display cunning and survival instincts that would make a Crystal Lake camper look like Bear Grylls. Rob Condry swears angrily a lot (maybe he was watching the dailies) and everyone dies, but SPOILER/Surprise! the new guy was really super competent and a mole.

This movie was stupid, don't see it.

Don't let the poster fool you...
halloween-fan26 July 2010
Last night i watched this movie with high expectations hoping for a lot of gun fights after seeing the poster, but there are none. Don't get me wrong it doesn't mean that this is a bad movie. It was actually pretty funny and had some good fight scenes.

I really liked it and enjoyed it. It was fun.

I really do recommend this movie to people.

If your expecting a gun crazy action movie - Don't bother at all.

If your expecting a comedy/action thats not to be taken seriously at all - Go for it!

One big pile of...
ssvfolder-131 July 2010
I don't like giving bad reviews for movies. Every movie has it's own better and worse sides. This one I believe can be summed up in one word "Incredicrap". Due to my habit of finding the good, let's see... I liked Rob Corddry swearing monologue in front of the camera at the beginning of the movie. The names of the cast looks good (before the movie)... That's it. The bad: Everything. First of all I did not understand to which genre should this movie be allied to: Drama - No, Comedy - No, Action - definite no. Story: As bad as it can be. Boring and quite stupid. Acting: Rob and Zack are the only two relatively decent comedy actors in it. The rest, for lack of better word, suck. Action scenes: Neither funny, nor appealing or effective. In conclusion,Advice to all people, do not watch this one - It's just not worth it.

Fantastically funny film
alvarhaggis25 August 2010
This movie, although made by Americans, is not for the American market. All the bad reviews seem to be from Americans and all the positive reviews from people of other nationalities.

I am Scottish, who have a very similar sense of humour to the rest of the UK.

This movie is seriously funny. It has so many laugh out loud moments. Rob Corddry is just fantastic. Within 5 minutes of the movie I was struggling to listen to anything he said without literally pissing in my pants with laughter. The rest of the cast are also great and also very funny. Make no mistake about it, this is not an action film. It's a comedy and a very funny one at that.

One other thing I want to note is how stunningly beautiful Maggie Q is. People bang on about Gemma Arterton and Megan Fox. They have nothing on this sexy, sassy girl. There is a wealth of eye candy in this movie for both sexes.

Ignore the negative reviews and give it a try. If you like black comedy, this is a movie for you.

Don't even bother, not worth watching!
andrepersaud28 July 2010
There are some reviews on this site that people say they do find this movie funny and they did enjoy watching it, but honestly it is an hour and half bore fest. This movie has a lot of comedic actors in it, but all except Rob Corddry were actually trying to be funny. Other reviews say that this movie is not meant to be taken seriously, but with such talent in the movie, it should have at least try to be more funny or entertaining. Just take a look at the cast: - Zach Galifianakis: His most popular role was as Alan Garner in the Hangover. He was hilarious there, most of his comedy coming from the weird acting, the weird things he says and the hilarious facial expressions he makes to situations. In this movie, he's barely in it, prob about only 7 minutes in the whole movie and he was funny, but he does not save this movie.

  • Rob Corrdry: I don't really like his comedy. He just acts like a jackass. This is apparent in all his movie, including this one and another popular movie you may recognize him from, Hot Tub Time Machine. He's the main comedic relief in this movie, so if you like him then I guess you'd like this movie.

  • Brandon T. Jackson: You may recognize him as Alpa Chino from Tropic Thunder. He was hilarious in that movie. In this movie there's one seen I remember that he tries to be funny, but it was a total miss.

  • Bob Odenkirk: This guy is hilarious as a lawyer in the show Breaking Bad (amazing show). He's been a comedic actor for a long time, but never quite been able to find a character that made all audiences laugh. His character in this movie was somewhat funny, but not the best he could have done.

The remaining cast, with the exception of Odette Yustman (she's really hot), are recognizable as minor characters in other movies. Most of the movies though aren't that great.

The story in this movie is very simplistic to begin with, but has a ridiculous plot twist thrown in at the end that makes you just regret watching the entire thing.

This movie is definitely skip-able.

Grossly underrated
UniqueParticle17 October 2020
Damn this movie is awesome! The dialogue is so great, I'm sure it's because of Sam Levinson he's an crafty writer that is perfect at what he writes. I don't understand why this was bashed so much it's a shame. I love Operation Endgame also known as Rogue Gallery! Gloriously graphic fun time and quite hilarious; I'm happy this exists.

Enjoyable movie, but could have used more comedy...
paul_haakonsen12 August 2013
When I sat down to watch "Operation: Endgame" (aka "Rogues Gallery") I had no idea at all what the movie was about. The reason why I wanted to watch it was because of the people on the cast list.

I found out that this was an action comedy, although I will admit that the movie is more lenient towards the action as it towards comedy. The comedy is there, yes, but it is fairly subtle but straight to the point.

The story is about a group of government assassins who work in a secret underground compound. The assassins are known only by the names from the Tarot card deck. And when new assassin, The Fool, arrives for his first work day, the boss of the operation is killed and operation: endgame is initiated, giving the assassins only limited time to escape the compound. But some assassins have been given secret targets to kill, and with nowhere to run, whom can you trust? I will say that the storyline was entertaining, albeit a bit silly.

There is nothing in the movie to make you buy into it, and as such it does come off as a comedy on the action genre. The storyline is simplistic and easy to follow, requiring you to disable your brain and just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Although working with fairly two-dimensional characters, there was an impressive list of people to be found on the cast list here.

For a comedy, then "Operation: Endgame" didn't really deliver that much impact, and if you enjoy these type of covert government operation comedies, then there are some better choices available. But still, "Operation: Endgame" is worth a watch for about 87 minutes worth of entertainment that doesn't require you to bring along your brain.

A lot like "The Tournament" and "Condemned" but way, way worse
hump_flump26 July 2010
How many movies do we have to see to get tired of the same old "everyone kills each other" clichés? This movie would have been half decent if the action scenes were better done. This film advertises itself as a comedy, but all it succeeds in accomplishing is boring us with wannabe dark humor lines, and pathetic attempts for the audience to sympathize with the characters. If you're expecting a movie that has mindless action but nonetheless still a pretty fun movie you're wasting your time! They probably shot this film with the same budget as paranormal activity! The actors that agreed to act in this debauchery should be ashamed of themselves...

Not worth wasting time on!
Curlysar31 August 2010
I'll admit, with a cast like this I had expectations. Please be ready to have them dashed very quickly! This film didn't really live up to anything - it was almost like it tried too hard to fit too many different genres, and instead ended up with a bunch of nothingness.

Nothing seemed to fit together, there was no real plot or storyline, and I was bored. I usually watch right to the end of a film, even if I'm not really enjoying it, because there might be some redeeming feature or I might be a bit curious about how it all ends - but I didn't care about this one. At all.

It wasn't funny enough to be a comedy (I think I half-heartedly chuckled about twice) and there wasn't enough action or drama for it to be classed as anything else - I just really didn't see the point of it, and I'm very surprised at the number of well known actors who actually agreed to be in it! Very poor, and not worth wasting your time on.

Absolutely terrible...
biatch026 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Story had potential but ended up being badly executed. Cast had potential but most of them died before my seat warmed up. Action was ridiculously short in some instances, and ridiculously drawn out in others. Only watch this movie if you want to check out one or all of the ladies in the cast. The movie apparently falls under the Action, Drama, and Comedy genres; and yet somehow manages to fall short on all accounts.

In a nutshell: 1 point for Maggie Q, 0.5 points for Emilie de Ravin (would have gotten 1 except I kept seeing Claire from LOST who was similarly insane), 0.5 points for Odette Yustman, 0.5 points for Rob Corddry and 0.5 points for Adam Scott - for a grand total of 3 points.

Very odd
NateWatchesCoolMovies16 June 2016
Rogue's Gallery, given the slightly lamer title of Operation: Endgame, is a very odd little amalgamation of extreme violence, comedic banter and wannabe spy intrigue. It concerns a group of government agents holed up in some remote bunker, basically taking each other out one by one after someone among them murders their boss, Emporer (Bob Odenkirk). The cast is made up of two types of actors: sleek, distinct genre bad asses and quirky, less aesthetically streamlined comedians who stand out in this type of material very strangely. Fool (Joe Anderson) is the rookie, being shown the ropes of his first day by Chariot (a hilarious Rob Cordry). That's where the plot starts, and that is also where it lost me. The rest of the film is just all of them bickering until it gets way beyond words, and then murdering each other in shamelessly gratuitous ways. Ellen Barkin stands out as Empress, a b&@tchy old tart who has it in for Devil (Jeffrey Tambor) another senior operative. Emilie De Ravin steps wayyyy outside her comfort zone as Hierophant, a psychotic little doll faced southern Belle who gives hulking Juggernaut (Ving Rhames) a run for his money. There's also work from Odette Yustman, Maggie Q, Adam Scott, Brandon T. Jackson, and Zach Galifianakis as a weird character that I still can't figure out, perhaps because he does not much of anything at all except mope around wearing a hazmat suit and looking very hungover. It's cool to see these actors give each other hell and fight like two raccoons in a burlap sack (the violence in this is really vicious, especially when Ravin is involved), if not much else. Very odd stuff.

Squandered talents....avoid at all cost
rizel_jamn359 August 2010
Unbelievable how this fails in so many levels...First, it doesn't know what it wants to be, it wants to be funny and witty, action packed mystery "whodunit" film all at the same time and it comes out as neither of those...Then, the plot is just plain confusing, not because its smart, but because its just plain idiotic. Also, the fight sequences were pathetic, does not really convince the audience that there people were supposed to be top government spooks....and those 'big reveals' where the film would want you to think that you didn't see it coming...i bet you could spot those a mile away, yeah, its that obvious....

Really disappointed with this film, pathetic script, poor direction ruined this film, oh Rob Corddry, Adam Scott, Joe Anderson, Maggie Q, Odette Yustman, Ving Rhames....what are you doing in this crap of a movie? Funny when i saw Tower and said to myself, that guy from Tropic Thunder and Percy Jackson would probably make this character suck less if he were to play this........boy was i wrong......hahaha same guy....unbelievable...thats how bad the script is...infects everyone with mediocrity...

great
nightlybyday9 July 2011
I watch a ton of movies, some great, some terrible, and some just OK. This one I would sum up in one word...fun. There's some good laughs, people die, there's a bit of mystery, what more could you want?! Other than super powers or lightsabers that is. oh and perhaps some hot chick nudity would have been nice, there's none of that in this...sigh...but I digress, I'ld never heard of this before watching it but I'm glad I did.

A note to all you Zach Galifianakis fans, if you're watching this movie just because he's in it...he's barely in it, but Rob Corddry is pretty damn funny, also I would normally like a better explanation of things at the end of a movie but this one was fun to watch so I'll forgive it.

Absolutely SUCKS!!! What a RIP OFF!!!!
zatoichi1014 January 2011
First off, I picked this off the shelf at the video store primarily because it has Zach G featured dead center on the cover -- and given top billing on the cover credits!!! (He's in the movie for about 2 minutes.) On the back of the DVD were the words "Hilarious!!" Not knowing anything about it, I rented it because I think Zach G (can't spell or even pronounce his last name) is pretty funny.

If you think this movie is funny, you're a jackwagon. The movie is about nothing but gore, blood and killing. Nothing funny at all. Except, maybe, the acting. The only thing worse than the script was the acting -- shame on the entire cast! I know most of them and know they can do much better. (But, then again, maybe they knew the script was horrible, too.) What I think happened is that this movie came out and crashed and burned (as it should have). But then a movie called The Hangover comes out, is an overwhelming HIT and Zach G is now a superstar!! The crappy movie studio, goes, "HEY!! That Zach G guy was in our movie, too! We own the rights!!! Let's reshoot the cover -- feature Zach G in the center shot and give him top billing!! At least we'll sell more of these movies to idiots (like me) who will think this is a comedy!! In fact, let's actually write 'Hilarious!!!' on the back cover!" For real, I believe that is exactly what happened. And that is why I feel RIPPED OFF!!!!

Pretty straightforward movie
bowmanblue22 July 2014
Sometimes you may want a film to twist and turn, keeping you guessing at all times. Other times, you may just want a bit of straightforward carnage. This is the latter.

It's about a top secret base, located under Washington, where two teams of secret agents try to kill each other off. We're introduced to each one briefly, before their boss is killed and the two teams go to war.

What follows is one fight scene after the next, until the killer is finally revealed. Unfortunately, that's all it is. It is quite a short film and having many characters means that most of them are pretty one-dimensional stereotypes who you won't really care if they live or die. Plus some of the good characters are killed off too early, leaving the annoying ones still standing.

On the plus side, the base is under constant surveillance and the two men charged with overseeing the mayhem are quite funny as they watch the bloodshed unfold without being able to affect the outcome.

The budget is pretty small - don't expect any 'Matrix-like' fight scenes, but at least the duelling is well done, with the agents utilising one piece of office equipment after the next to despatch their adversary.

Operation: Endgame isn't anything special, but if you like seeing people keep fighting each other in a 'last man standing' kind of way then you won't waste too much time watching the eighty minutes that it is.

We can only ask 'Why?'
gradyharp13 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Why on earth was this movie made? The writing (Sam Levinson and Brian Watanabe) created a story out of a potpourri of potty mouth words and strange instruments of mayhem (nearly everyone in the film gets slaughtered), and Director Fouad Mikati hired a group of actors to participate in this mess, and superimposed film clips of presidents Bush and Obama to make it seem pertinent. Sad.

Apparently beneath the White House there is a group of crazies run by the Devil (Jeffrey Tambor) and the Empress (Ellen Barkin) who control two groups - Alpha and Omega - to protect information about previous governmental faux pas. The members of these two groups are intent on killing each other after using every form of foul language and behavior known. The Devil is murdered after he engages Operation Engame that will explode the underground facility and there is a rush to find a way out before the cataclysm. The fighting groups are composed of actors such as Ellen Barkin, Rob Corddry (the only one in the cast that has a weak glimmer of interest), Zach Galifianakis as wee would expect in a film this awful, Ving Rhames, Emilie de Ravin, Maggie Q, Odette Yustman, Brandon T. Jackson, Joe Anderson (who could be said to have the lead role), and a troop of others who probably wouldn't mind if their names were not associated with this blood bath/toilet story. Perhaps some will find it a cult movie. For others, a few minutes is all it will take to realize you'll be wasting time finishing it.

Opening scene alone redeems entire movie regardless
scoup4 April 2012
This was funny....really funny.

Corddry had me in stitches in the opening scene. I had to rewind several times because I missed the rest of what he was saying due to laughter. The two security guards were likewise on point - great deadpan. There was humor throughout.

I liked the characters and felt a subtle satire aimed at all the suave secret agent movies like Wanted, James Bond and Mission Impossible.

Movie included fight scenes with ample violence and blood. Smart-ass dialog. Small romantic subplots. What is not to like here??? Just a really fun fly by your pants movie. I don't believe it is meant to be taken seriously, so sit back and enjoy.

Exciting idea, Excruciating delivery
dimarinc21 December 2011
This is a fast paced action movie with a tendency for brutality and gore. This overshadows the few interesting action sequences and plot setup. The plot is not spoon fed to you, it's shot at you from a bazooka. This leads to a dull sense of purpose for the movie and it's easy to forget that there is a plot and just take in the action sequences. The actors do a decent job with the simple script, but there are too many characters and not enough time for you to develop any sense of care about any of them. It's a shame because this movie genre is very untapped.

PLOT: A new recruit has just joined an undercover government agency with 2 distinct groups, Alpha and Omega. Each group has agents named after Tarot cards. A string of events makes it a kill to survive theme battle against the clock to get out alive.

CHARACTERS: This movie's fast pace prevented any real character development. There are several characters all with very different attitudes and actions. However they seem like a group of interesting strangers because of how fast the movie's events unfold.

ACTORS: I was very excited for Odette Annable and Adam Scott. I was worried about Rob Corddry being annoying and Maggie Q being her typecast self. I had no idea who Joe Anderson was. Unfortunately, you barely get much to be happy or mad about because there is only so much time to split between several if not very popular at least known actors.

GENRE: This is a very interesting and in my opinion untapped genre. It is action at the core, and definitely a comedy given the cast. But it also incorporates government agency and conspiracy themes with plot twists. However, the plot twists get lost in all the action and there is a degree of brutality and dirtiness to this movie that renders it ineffective. To many of these themes contradict each other. This serves up a movie that can't be taken seriously, but isn't overly funny.

PRODUCTION VALUE: There was a fair amount of production value to this movie. It was shot well and action sequences were fun to watch. This was a movie that had the production value to be a heavy hitter. There were no real special effect, and some of the added in gore looks very fake.

SCRIPT: The script is a mystery. It could have been a great script and made an excellent book. In a medium where more attention is paid to detail, the script may have been great. Unfortunately the script gets lost in all the action. It would require a re-watch to better understand what underlying plots were happening, but the movie did not have the quality for that.

As always, send me any comments or your views,

Chris

Watch it for non-stop nonsense Torturous Action.
saadgkhan8 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OPERATION: END GAME – CATCH IT ( C+ ) It's merely around 80 minutes of non-stop brutal bloody Action. The movie doesn't have a plot which Action movies don't have lately. Somehow director manage to book some familiar faces which aren't Big but still recognizable. Joe Anderson is a blue eyes Doll, Odette Yustman manages to show some really Hot Action Skills, Emilie De'Ravin was very different from what we have seen her before. Maggie Q is the Queen of Action. Ellen Barkin and Rob Corddry manage to make us Laugh with their cheap Nasty Jokes. Zack Galifianakis, Brandon T.Jackson and Adam Scott were O.k. Overall I completely Mediocre Action fun flick. Watch it for non-stop nonsense Torturous Action.

Bland on all counts. At most enjoyable as a late night cable flick.

I am gonna explain what i wanna write with a metaphor.

If any of you has ever cooked from a cookbook before you will be sure to come across a recipe wherein you'll say to yourself 'that amount of salt can't be good' OR 'this much paprika...what do you wanna do? gimme an ulcer?!' OR 'that kinda butter is gonna give me a potbelly!'. So you adjust the ingredients, maybe even add a few of your own thinking you are gonna make the recipe your own, and then you find out the dish turned out bland and could have done without your own twists. It needed only those ingredients and in the quantity mentioned in the recipe to make it work.

I guess you get my point. When i came across the trailer it seemed to be a satirical action comedy with lots of gore to boot. And given the cast, it screamed awesome mindless fun.

But i guess the director decided that he needed to 'adjust the ingredients', maybe to make it his own style rather than a formulaic one. Well, sir, sometimes the formula is all that is needed. The action lacked the punch. There was blood and gore, yes, but the scene would cut to those 2 guys in 'corporate' making puking faces just when you though you are gonna see something really gross. The dialog, or rather the delivery, was sporadic at best - too rehearsed - almost like a B-movie. The action was badly choreographed and the camera angle shifted too many times for it to be smooth and coherent.

The premise of the movie couldn't be faulted though. Neither could the setting. Assassins having office-like cubicles and killing each other with office equipment is a cool idea. If only it could have been executed better.

I did not expect there to be a plot, and so the plot-twist at the end that tried to give some serious patriotic theme to the movie just felt 'bleh'. In fact, it did not make any sense at all.

Oh, if only the director had just stuck to the formula of max action, max gore and max comedy, then the premise and the actors themselves would have make this one a hit! Too bad!!
