So full of holes
smifo1124 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A knot in the stomach type of watch for sure. I happily (if happily is the right word for it) watched it all the way through. Edge of my seat at times. The thing that spoiled it, was that it was really frustrating (perhaps deliberately?) to watch.

Harri was repeatedly calling 999 right up to the point when he actually needed to ring it. The police would be there in minutes (I know it was a secluded house, but not in outer Mongolia). Then his neighbour says we'll have a nice cuppa tea then drive to the police station, rather than call 999? And obviously Harri agrees to this bizarre plan. Then his attacker wanders away from Harri allowing him to run away and climb to the safety of the tree house, so he can get a slightly more suitable weapon? You need a great deal of suspension of disbelief for this one folks.

Tense and really well done!
BandSAboutMovies22 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Director Philip Barantini is known for the British TV show Boiling Point. Here, he's made one of the best Tubi originals I've seen, a tense thriller that feels like it could be happening right now.

Harri (Chaneil Kular) leaves London to dog-sit the family dog Flynn when his parents go on vacation. He doesn't pay attention to much -- he's an animator so he devotes his mind to one thing at a time -- and is shocked when a friend calls to tell him he nearly missed a bombed on the tube. When a camera image of the suspect who set the bomb goes viral, even Harri's girlfriend jokes that it looks like him. Even worse, an old school friend posts a message that she feels proves that Harri is the terrorist.

This is how easily this happens. Harri isn't a foreigner. He's lived in London his whole life. He just looks different.

And it gets worse.

Harry is a British citizen of South Asian descent, but he's brown. To anyone watching him -- even neighbors of his parents who have known him his whole life -- he's the other, an enemy, someone to fear. The tension builds as every message Harri reads paints him as a criminal. Even calls to the police and visits to a kindly old lady next door become nightmarish mirror sides of real life. Then the vigilantes come for him and invade his parent's home.

Writers Barnaby Boulton and James Cummings have crafted a fable of how far paranoia and the bubble of doing your own research and "I'm just saying, but..." can go when pointed at a target. Kular is really great in this, an everyman faced with a night of terror that not every man would have to live through.

The Dangers of Gossip.
ruthiempowell24 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't normally shout at my TV when watching a film but, man, this film had me in hypertension. So frustrating. Why didn't he call for the police as soon as he knew they were at his home!? Why didn't he go upstairs WITH HIS dog and lock themselves in the bathroom and call 999 as soon as he saw them spray painting the security cameras!? Can't believe he let his dog get killed. I would die for my dog. Why didn't he get his dog and go out in one of the two cars on his drive once he knew they were coming for him!? Playing hide and seek with two deranged murdering morons in your home isn't fun. So many flaws. I guess if he did anything logical like what I've suggested the film would've been half as long. So they needed to do the whole cat and mouse thing. But don't watch it before bed especially if you love dogs. Because you'll be be running on pure cortisol with a headache. Ending up on the roof slipping into the convenient swimming pool and running through the woods and ending up at his neighbours..... And sitting down and explaining the situation to her INSTEAD OF CALLING THE POLICE.... I can't take anymore. It's so drawn out and ridiculous. They literally have a cup of tea. Then the MSM announce it's him on the radio... By name... Which would never happen. Then she rats him out by flashing lights.... Then a bit more frustrating cat and mouse and the predicable ending ensues. Yawn.... All I can think about through it all is that his poor dog got needlessly killed. And the fact he still hasn't called THE F police... SMH.

KMT.

One Big Plothole
timsaunders2312 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I thought much of this film was really well done. An horrific event followed by internet sleuths coming to the wrong conclusion before vigilantes come to the fore.

Here's the thing though: the bombing would be a massive investigation run by a big taskforce. The cops would be well aware of Harri being identified online as a suspect and would be wanting to speak with him as soon as possible, even if they had ruled him out and just needed to ensure his safety.

He calls 999 twice but not when there are actual intruders in his house? And he had ample time to do so before they actually got inside.

Other than that though, I enjoyed it. Pretty good effort.

Really exciting, if somewhat far fetched.
samrommer24 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know, I know, it's "just a film", but for a film to be immersive it needs to feel like real life. This film was really tense and exciting, and I enjoyed it, but as it went on it got increasingly frustrating to watch - so many parts that just would never happen;

  • The TV news showing pictures of him as a suspect just because of Twitter without a shred of evidence or any police statements.

  • the lack of calling the police again when seeing attackers at the property.

  • trying to escape in a car.

  • one of the attackers breaking into a locked house without making a sound.

  • the neighbour turning him in to weapon wielding attackers at the end...it all gets a bit ridiculous...

It's always the way with horror tension films, but I wish they'd have kept the script more realistic, although it does of course make it exciting.

Don't watch if you get bored easily
daneclapham26 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film is hard to explain. I enjoyed watching but it was slow, it took over half of the film before anything interesting happened. But i'm also pleased i watched it. Some elements are hard to believe, for example the media sharing Harri's name and the reaction of the police when Harri first calls. For some reason i really wanted to keep watching to find out what would happen although it ended up being something pretty easy to predict. Was easy to root for Harri without giving much reason to feel emotionally invested in him. Good concept but could have been so much better, feels like it was rushed or written by a 15 year old. I still enjoyed it, and shout out to Harri's actor who done a good job of it.

Decent 1-time watch, especially for 88 mins.
TreeFiddy531 October 2023
This is an 88-min Tubi-Original movie available for free and you should consider watching this if you're in the mood for something decently intense and short.

The only reasons I considered watching this random movie, on Tubi (when was the last time you streamed something on Tubi, right?) are the director, Philip Barantini (I know him from "Boiling Point" - a fantastic film that you should watch RN if you haven't) and, a bunch of articles from the UK that said they found this to be one of the most intense films they'd watched recently.

Accused follow Harri Bhavsar, wrongly accused for being a London bomber and what happens after his name and pictures are put online. The film has a slow start in the first 40 mins, and the intensity kicks up a notch in the second half. In the end though, (not sure how to feel about the climax) the commentary around the real perpetrator and the what Harri continues to go through made me appreciate the story more.

Not the best, but I didn't mind the decent 90 mins for a quick watch. Would recommend that you check it out as well, especially since it's free on Tubi.

A hard hitting film
LetsReviewThat2624 September 2023
Accused is one of those films that you don't know where it's going to go till the penny drops. We see harri and his girlfriend Chloe in bed. He leaves and takes a normal journey on the train. His going to house sit for his parents and look after the cute doggo. But after an explosion happens it's not long before some scumbag online throws Harris name out and now everyone thinks his responsible. It comes down tooor harri fighting for his life against two thugs which was extremely sad to watch but glorious to see him turn the tables. It just shows the dangers of being an online piece of trash and how innocent people can get involved in something they didn't do. The actor playing harri did a very good job though and overall it was a sad but good watch.

Hard watch
chrissi78-887-11353523 September 2023
Much as I thought this was a good film I found it a really difficult watch and i felt really uneasy from the start, scary to think the events could unfold for any one of us if someone out there just decided to throw your name into the hat for something you didn't do.

The main character was great he done a brilliant job. I felt really uneasy watching this and its the first good film I've watched where I checked the time left as I just wanted to get to the end to see what the outcome was. Definitely worth a watch it's proper edge of your seat stuff but be prepared there is one or two gruesome scenes.

The Frightening Power of Social Media and Revenge
jamesmyers227 September 2023
This low budget movie is novel and entertaining. It shows the frightening power of social media, hate, prejudice and revenge.

In the wake of an all too familiar London terrorist attack occurs a terrifying case of mistaken identity. A young man simply going about his everyday business happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A photo of the terror suspect is released. Despite the photo not clearly showing the man's face a storm is whipped up on social media and the young man is wrongly identified as the subject.

What makes this film entertaining is this scenario is all too possible. An innocent photo here or there can lead to severe consequences.

The ability to relate to this incident is what makes the film so entertaining. This is why my social media accounts are locked down so tightly. Especially Facebook! There are no pictures available to the public on my profile apart from my profile picture of me unidentifiable in sunglasses! No tagged pictures relating to my house, work, gym and certainly no public pictures.

After watching this film, if you haven't already, you'd be wise to follow suit! I recommend this film.

Awful. Frustratingly stupid character decisions.
rajaakhtar-1889026 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Started off great. But then he did everything opposite of what someone would do to prove innocence. Didn't keep calling the police when he actually WAS in immediate danger. If it was blown out of proportion online, didn't the police already pick up on this? 999 didn't even take his name seriously when he called, even-though thats the only name people were talking about? They didn't try to get to his location?

Even at the end, why didn't he drive away when he got in the car instead of sitting there with door unlocked and taking big breaths for 5 mins. Just drive!

Frustrating. Makes you shout at the character, and think... yeah, he deserves to die for being an idiot.

Stupidly after stupidity!

An unnecessary tense movie.

Highly relevant
sashadaniels-1607023 September 2023
In our cancel culture/witch hunt world it is important to highlight the impact on innocent victims. Also of course touches on general racism. The main actor is fantastic and I would love to see him in other things. I liked how quick the story unfolded at the start and the mid way build up towards the final few scenes of drama. It's a great film for date night nothing too much to think about and really interesting take on a modern day issue.

The old lady scenes were frustrating and possibly not very realistic (why would an old lady not just call the police) but then I guess it wouldn't be much of a film of it was that easy!

Good but Frustrating
rich-fletch4 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers.

The acting is good I think, but some of the writing was poor. No one in the wide world of the media would run with a story of a guy being a terrorist on the say so of an old classmate. Add to that the police not recognising his name and coming straight over it made for a bizarre watch at times.

There were lots of cliches and things you'd seen a million times before as the Muslim / terrorist story was explored once again. It seems like an easy screenplay to make. Just add a bombing, a Muslim or two and then an angry mob on social media.

However, it was tense and well acted plus you were rooting for the lead guy.

Where his parents ended up - who knows. You'd think they'd have been right back home immediately.

Good to see Frances Tomelty is still working.

Nonsensical waste of time
MyAccountUsername29 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm staggered by how bad this film was, the initial premise was interesting even if it's been done before (felt very much like Hated In The Nation from Black Mirror), but it had potential as it began. Instead the protagonist was an absolute moron, making idiotic mistakes over and over again, and the two men hunting him were up there with Predator for how good they were at stalking. How did they get in the house, silently kill the dog, and then teleport back outside again? Why are the kind of men to turn up to lynch someone also SAS level at stealth and reconnaissance? How did a film portraying an innocent victim of a social media mob make me despise him so much that I actually wanted him to die because of all his idiotic choices? The answer to all is bad writing - don't waste your time.

Relevant 'cat and mouse' for today
dweston-3866926 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Philip Barantini directed the powerful 'one take' film 'Boiling Point' with the equally powerful Stephen Graham. The film was highly praised by both Laura and I. Here the workplace, where tension and strife lie, isn't a kitchen but a grand big country home ripe for a game of cat and mouse between an innocent young Pakistani man and two moronic, easily led thugs wanting revenge for a bombing in London that they believe were caused by this young man.

It's a well directed, super palm sweating experience that places Barantini as a craftsman of paranoia, stress and anxiety. He knows how to use the camera and add just the right amount of music to create this mood.

Actor Chaneli Kular brings sensitivity and the right amount of bewildering expressions as the horrors unfold in front of him.

Social media, rightly, doesn't come out well, it's mean, incorrect and nasty, forcing gullible people to act unforgivably.

Relevant with inconsistances
eeriechills6 April 2024
Brilliant movie albeit a few inconsistances. The movie was well made with decent actors. The movie could be described as a 'what if' movie but sadly these incidences have happened in real life. It delves upon the undeducated minds of the public and the trolls of social media crrating something out of nothing with innocent people getting hurt. Society online unfortunately breeds a vast amount of stupidity and uneducatedness. It shows how most people will believe anything AND act upon false information. The inconsistency is of police not acting on relevent information immediately. Then again theres an argument for reality there too I suppose. It opens up the need to seek out the real perpetrators of such incidences ie the ones that start rumours and the ones that act on false information based on nothing. Also the mindsets of most people sadly. Most people following the masses instead of the truth is alas society in the modern era. All in all a pretty decent current movie.

What would you do?
balthesaur1 October 2023
'Accused' follows Harri Bhavsar (Chaneil Kular) as a Pakistani in England who takes a train to his parents' house in the countryside. While on the train, news quickly flies that a terrorist explosion has rocked the station he just left from, not ten minutes prior. Suspicion grows even more rapidly as tourists and other internet surfers place someone who looks like Harri at the scene, and a horrifying night of cat-and-mouse survival ensues for Harri.

Firstly, great idea, especially given the last 20 or so years of 'brown person bad' xenophobia and racial hatred towards anyone who looks Middle Eastern - the plausability and unfortunate relatability is well constructed in this film! The acting, flow, and overall tone of the piece are well done, particularly in the third act, when the plot comes to a head; Harri is not Superman and he actions seem desperate and real enough to believe.

Definitely worth a watch!

Interesting plot line, could have been so much better
rural-8729325 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty frustrating execution of what had the potential to be a really good film.

The set up was really interesting, really tense build but as soon as the police started ignoring him it got a bit ridiculous.

If he's the main name in the news and he's reported his own name to the police, why are they not bringing him in immediately?

As soon as he started getting house calls, he must know they know where he lives so why's he not getting on the road and calling the police again?

Numerous times, he could have stayed put and the attackers wouldn't have been able to get to him given he had his own weapons and of course the second guy fell through the flooring...

Shame as the lead actor was pretty believable throughout.

Brilliant film and so relevant
izabela-n-gruszczyk1 October 2023
First of all, all those low ratings are ridiculous calling out on things not being realistic .. well if they were realistic we wouldn't have a move, would we? If you are thinking on watching it, I would ignore these comments.

The field is brilliantly directed, with some great acting. It is very tense at time, where I couldn't even watch and you can literally feel what the actor is feeling. It portrays very well the power of social media in todays world, and how quickly people jump to conclusion thinking they are detectives, and completely not thinking about the consequences it might have on other people.

Stupid character decisions V2
paulgerardburke2 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I robbed someone else's heading because it was perfect in my opinion. It was like a Halloween movie where you are like don't go in there. Spoiler alert, they ransacked his apartment so hiding in your parents house wasn't exactly wise. 3 cars outside, DRIVE AWAY IN ONE! He was a sitting duck in that house, in a car there would be a million different places he could be. Ridiculous! How many people would stay there? Just seemed so unrealistic and also when you suspect people could be coming to you keep all the curtains open so they could see you whilst you sit downstairs for the night. Also, lets just go outside looking for attackers with the dog. So many holes which made me angry! Sorry for the negativity but he literally made everything worse with his movements!

A brilliant tense thriller
drhemp14 October 2023
Films that have a rating in the region of 6.5 on IMDB tend to be okay but nothing great which is why I was surprised at the rating for this film, it deserves much higher.

Harri Bhavsar, a young British Asian, is incorrectly identified on social media as the suspect of terrorist bombings in London. Horrified by the online abuse and false accusations, he must survive the night as the online witch-hunt arrives at his front door.

Accused is a powerful commentary on today's society and its obsession with revenge. In an age where social media has become a platform for instant justice and trial by public opinion, the film highlights the dangerous consequences of false accusations and mob mentality.

Chaneil Kular gives an outstanding performance in what turns out to be a scintillating thriller. The tension builds up from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. As Harri tries to clear his name and survive the night, we are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions - fear, anger, frustration, and ultimately hope.

The film also tackles important issues such as racism, Islamophobia, and the impact of media on public perception. It's a wake-up call for society to be more responsible in the way it consumes and spreads information, and to not let prejudice cloud our judgment.

Accused is a must-watch for its thought-provoking storyline, brilliant acting, and timely message. It serves as a reminder that in a world of viral news and online witch-hunts misinformation can spread easily.

What a waste of time
ricks-771 October 2023
Absolutely pointless! Honestly one of the most pointless movies I've ever watched if not the most. There's just nothing about it. And the end... Well, the end is not finished by any stretch of the imagination.

It is that bad that even as an half hour episode of a TV series it would still be pointless. This could be a 15m movie and the message intended would have been passed in a much better way. Nothing wrong with the acting, in fact that is probably the only acceptable part of this. It is simply the story that seems like absolutely no thought has been put into it. How it gets some 8/9/10 on here is crazy.

Highlights the dangers of social media
karlmckellar25 September 2023
An intense thriller capturing the real dangers of social media and stereotyping anyone that doesn't always look the same as you.

Pin points just how easy it is to stir up hate and rage within people. Also how fake news can move so very fast within social media platforms.

Even touching on how the police force are under resourced and funded to attend the needs of the people. A very well thought out film with nail biting moments throughout. A very small cast but keeps you glued watching it from the very start. Would definitely recommend everyone to watch this who believes everything they see on social.

2/5 - The Review House
MovieThougthsRUs26 September 2023
The acting, directing, and visuals are amazing, but the script in this movie needs to be ripped up and thrown away. Useless decisions and unnecessary reasoning will leave you screaming, 'Why, why, why?' It picks up for a moment, only to let you down once again with dumb decisions.

The actor must get a new film; I would love to see him again.

The film shooting is well done, great shooting.

The visuals are well done, grading and style are perfect.

The story is disappointing; it could have been told in so many ways.

The scriptwriter is terrible, just not executed at all.

That's a wrap.

2/5 that my review.

On the edge of your seat suspense
matthewcole-5812726 December 2023
In this riveting suspense film, silence becomes a powerful language, and the protagonist's unspoken turmoil resonates louder than words. Wrongly framed for a crime he didn't commit, the main character's journey unfolds through intense, wordless performances that speak volumes. The tension is palpable in every frame, drawing the audience into a relentless pursuit of justice. With minimal dialogue, the actors convey raw emotions, making every expression count. The film masterfully uses silence as a tool, creating an atmospheric thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A compelling cinematic experience where actions truly speak louder than words.
