Fallout launched two months ago with a big question hovering over it — could another postapocalyptic streaming drama based on a video game also become a hit after the success of HBO’s The Last of Us? Any doubts were quickly erased, with Fallout racking up a 92 percent average positive review score on Rotten Tomatoes and breaking Prime Video streaming records with its sprawling tale of three very different survivors (played by Ella Purnell, Aaron Clifton Moten and Walton Goggins) navigating a nuclear wasteland amid moments of graphic violence and off-beat humor.

Months before the highly anticipated third season of “Hacks” premiered, Gold Derby’s thousands of 2024 Emmy predictors collectively agreed that it poses the biggest threat to defending Best Comedy Series champion “The Bear.” As the Max series’ latest batch of episodes dropped throughout May, its standing in the main race steadily improved, with its well-received finale triggering noticeable boosts in multiple categories.
Over the past week, the share of top Best Comedy Series votes held by “The Bear” decreased by 1.2%, while that of “Hacks” grew by the same amount. Although the two programs remain separated by nearly 80 percentage points, it speaks volumes that “Hacks” is at least 1.5 points ahead of every other contender.
After simultaneously running second in their respective races for several weeks, lead and supporting “Hacks” actresses Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are now closer than ever to toppling frontrunners Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”) and Meryl Streep...

Jeremy Renner has revealed that he was asked to appear in 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout but refused when he found out his character was going to be killed off.
Long time appreciators of the Mission: Impossible franchise will probably remember that Jeremy Renner had a prominent role alongside Tom Cruise in two movies before mysteriously vanishing around the middle of the 2010s.
It turns out there’s a good reason for this: having previously appeared in 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and 2015’s Rogue Nation, Renner was invited to return as globe-trotting agent William Brandt for a third time in 2018’s Fallout. Then the actor discovered that the film’s plot would see his character killed off after just a few scenes, and so he flatly refused to appear.

Robert Downey Jr. led the Avengers in the Infinity Saga as Tony Stark/ Iron Man for a decade. Following his introduction in Iron Man, he slowly assembled the original six Avengers with the help of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Iron Man would assemble for the first time in 2012’s The Avengers.

Jeremy Renner’s history with the “Mission: Impossible” franchise spans two films, 2011’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.” During an interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the actor revealed that he was actually asked to reprise the character of Imf agent William Brandt in the 2018 sequel “Fallout.” However, the offer was apparently for Renner to shoot one week so that Brandt could be killed off. Renner refused.

In the modern gaming industry, spinoffs and sequels are dominating the market. Among them, one of the biggest names is The Elder Scrolls. Every sequel of the game has been met with great affection and attention from players and industry critics.
However, there was one spinoff idea that Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda could have taken. There was speculation (later confirmed) about the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim spinoff which will be inspired by the fast-paced action of Call of Duty.

“Let’s not make ’em laugh” seems to be the new mantra for rewarding comedies at the Emmys.
Clear-cut, humor-filled chuckle fests once dominated the Emmys for comedy series, with classics such as “Taxi,” “The Golden Girls,” “Friends” and “Seinfeld” amusing generations of fans and finding new life via reruns and streaming services.
However, at the dawn of the streaming era, the multi-pronged so-called dramedy began creeping up in the awards circle with titles such as Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” — which famously changed from comedy to drama — and Amazon Prime Video’s “Transparent.” As of late, the category has taken a more serious turn.
In recent years, the nominees and winners for comedy series have reflected a broader, more inclusive interpretation of comedy. Shows like Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Fleabag,” along with HBO’s “Barry” and Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” have garnered critical...

The source of Maximus’ genuine excitement, his new master quickly proved to be an egotistical pathetic cretin who enjoyed humiliating others and cared little for his noble quest.
Knight Titus was more than willing to use his squire as a meat shield and then, after failing to defeat a Yao Guai in full power armor, put the blame on him.

Disclaimer: This article contains major spoilers for Fallout Season 1.
Prime Video’s Fallout TV show expanded the franchise’s lore in many ways, but the apparent fall of the Ncr is among the most major ones. Some Og fans didn’t like this decision, but seeing that the series is officially canon, there’s little to nothing we can do — except for resenting how we weren’t told the reasons for the Ncr’s fall.
Except that we were… Just in a really subtle and unexpected way.
Charlie Longkife Explained America’s Downfall
The Ghoul’s flashbacks to the pre-war days when he was still known as Cooper Howard beautifully explain many plot points in the story and give context for the new audience. Whether exploring post-apocalyptic wastelands or the far reaches of space, it’s easy to get lost in the visual language of a video game world. Transitioning that experience into a cinematic storytelling form is no easy task, but this season has seen more than a few production designers square up to the challenge.
Fallout takes some visual models from the Bethesda game series for an entirely new story, Halo grounds the sci-fi game universe with real world architecture, and although The Witcher exists as a video game series, the Netflix series version focuses on finding depth in Andrzej Sapkowski’s original fantasy novels.

The popularity of the Fallout franchise is currently riding the crest of a wave following the hugely popular Prime series. This has increased sales for titles, with many fans re-visiting various games for a renewed adventure in the wastelands. To say that Bethesda are joyfully rubbing its hands may be an understatement.
Given the popularity of the franchise and its impressive array of supporting characters, it is perhaps no surprise to see modders adapting them into other titles. It’s nothing new to see this happen; they can have varying degrees of success. However, it is the Fallout Mod which has been adapted for another popular franchise that has surprised many fans

The Mad Max franchise is unarguably one of the most popular action franchises of all time, created by mastermind George Miller. While the star power connected to it — which includes notable names like Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and Mel Gibson — is one factor behind its epic success, its breathtaking action sequences and stunt scenes further set the saga apart from every other.

There is a highly anticipated title called Trench Tales is knocking on the door, which might give you Helldivers 2 and Fallout vibes. Helldivers 2 is known for its chaotic gameplay, and Fallout is based on a post-apocalyptic setup, decades after a horrifying nuclear war.

Bethesda’s Fallout 76 recently achieved a huge milestone by reaching the 20 million player mark. The major contributor to this success was the Fallout TV series, which began airing on April 10th earlier this year.
After the major achievement, Director Todd Howard gave an interview in which he talked about the future games and even the future of the show. He teased that the Fallout TV series will follow the new characters as they still have stories to tell.

Fallout 76 is not the most acclaimed entry in the hit RPG series by a long margin. Apart from the game’s quality, which series enthusiasts almost always criticize, the state of the game at launch was nothing short of deplorable.
In addition to almost unanimously agreeing that the title was perhaps the series’ weakest entry, the community agrees that ‘The Scorched’ can be incredibly challenging to slay. But many fans might be unaware that a much scarier enemy almost replaced them

Whenever you talk about Microsoft Gaming or Xbox, one name that will always pass by your head is Phil Spencer. Starting his career as an intern at Microsoft, the man might have gotten the tag of one of the most successful CEOs in the history of the company’s gaming brand.
Although this success was never an overnight process, Spencer himself is a huge gamer by heart. That’s why all his decision-making regarding the business aspect of the company has been beneficial. He always perceived things from a gamer’s point of view. And his huge play times in certain Aaa titles are proof of that.
Phil Spencer Might Have Played these Games More Than You Phil Spencer has played this game for over 270 hours so far.
People might think that with these busy schedules, personalities like Phil Spencer might not have enough time to try out the games on his own platform.

From its actors to the franchise’s old-school fans, everyone was surprised and delighted by just how sensationally Prime Video’s Fallout blew up. The new post-apocalyptic show managed to please the Og video game fans as well as attract millions of new viewers, building upon the pre-existing world and making it more vibrant, lively, and prominent than ever before.
Fallout was renewed for Season 2 just a couple of days after its premiere, and we’re very excited to learn more about it… Thankfully, Walton Goggins is willing to share!
The Ghoul Star Says S1 Left Many Doors Open
Fallout Season 1 might have felt overwhelmingly massive for new Vault Dwellers, but as Og fans, we see just how much it didn’t cover. Don’t get us wrong: it didn’t need to as it followed one particular story — and yet, there’s much more still to show than what we’ve already seen.

After “Bridgerton” dominated the top three spots on Luminate’s streaming rankings last week, the only TV title that could rival it was a complete change of pace from the high production value Regency-era drama: “Tires,” Shane Gillis’ self-funded half-hour comedy that premiered on May 23.
“Bridgerton” Season 3 of course still took the No. 1 position with 766.8 million minutes watched in its second full week of availability, coming out to an estimated 3.7 million views when divided by the 220-minute runtime of the four currently available episodes.
But “Tires” beat Season 1 and 2 of “Bridgerton,” landing at No. 2 with 447.8 million minutes watched. Divided by its 135-minute runtime, that translates to 3.3 million views — not far behind “Bridgerton” Season 3 at all. Season 2 took third place place with 394.2 million minutes watched while Season 1 took fourth place with 391.6 million minutes watched.
“Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” had its chart debut at No. 5 with 298.1 million minutes watched in its first week of availability.

Prior to the immense success of television shows like "The Last of Us" and "Fallout," many audiences felt that video game adaptations were cursed. There were plenty of quick cash grabs and bizarre attempts at movie adaptations that just didn't work throughout the years, but one secret standout is the 2006 Christophe Gans film "Silent Hill." Based on the Konami video game series of the same name, "Silent Hill" follows a mother (Radha Mitchell) who goes into the uniquely haunted town of Silent Hill to try and rescue her adopted daughter, Heather (Jodelle Ferland). While the film isn't super accurate to the story from the games, it does capture the mood and some of the themes and completely nails the aesthetic, which can be half the battle with video game titles as visually recognizable as "Silent Hill." There's just nothing quite like its grungy industrial meat locker vibe and its delightfully disturbing monsters,...

There was once a time when Xbox was hailed for its exclusives compared to its competition. In the 2000s, we saw the release of Halo, Gears, and Forza games, which defined an entire generation of gamers and changed how we played games. However, something happened in the 2010s, and Xbox’s quality of first-party titles took a massive nosedive.
Xbox’s slump of bad exclusives didn’t end with Series S/X either, and it worsened. In response, Microsoft started buying studios, left and right, and assembling new teams to work on major console-exclusive games for the Xbox family of consoles. 2024 was supposed to be our first look at how Xbox exclusives have improved, and it seems like we’re in for a rollercoaster yet again.

Since the days of finger painting stories on cave walls, storytellers have known the secret of telling a quality fable. If your characters have flaws, they will resonate, even the villains.
One-dimensional characters just don't cut it, even if they're relegated to a distant, supporting role.
Some pundits are decrying the use of the deeply flawed character as an overdone trope that should die an ignominious death.
Yet, here we are, with the most acutely compromised characters reigning supreme on our TV screens and reverberating throughout our social interactions.
The art of creating the 'grey' character isn't going away any time soon, as this list of 13 deeply flawed characters clearly demonstrates.

Fallout 76 has recently surpassed a major milestone by reaching the 20 million players mark, 6 years after its release. The main factor in Bethesda’s success was the Fallout TV show, which began airing on April 10th earlier this year. Due to the popularity of the show, both old and new players were captivated by the intriguing lore of the Fallout world.
After the milestone’s announcement, Director Todd Howard gave an interview expressing how this was an unexpected turn of events. However, he also teased that the studio might have been working on multiple Fallout projects.

Science fiction and fantasy have inspired dozens of great television scores through the years, from “Battlestar Galactica” to “Game of Thrones.” Three more streaming series continued that tradition this season: “Silo,” “Fallout” and “3 Body Problem.”
Atli Örvarsson’s music for “Silo,” the Apple TV+ dystopian drama set in a bleak future where everyone lives in underground silos, was initially inspired by the setting. “It’s a mechanized world,” he says. “The technology you see is very, very old; the computers look like they’re from the ’80s, so there was always this idea that even the electronic sounds should be primitive, not slick.”
So he relied on Korg and Moog synthesizers from earlier eras, along with an unusual keyboard: the magnetic resonator piano, which uses electromagnets to create unusual sounds from the strings inside the instrument. “There’s a steampunk feel to the design of the show, and this is the ultimate steampunk instrument,...

Bethesda Studio announced on May 30th that Fallout 76 has surpassed a huge milestone. The game crossed the 20 million players mark which is huge, and an achievement not even the popular game The Last of Us was able to achieve.
In today’s gaming industry, where competition is very fierce and players have a plethora of games to try out, this achievement is remarkable. But what made it even more impressive was not just the number, but the context of how they got to this stage.

The major contributor to the sudden popularity of Fallout 76 was the Prime Video Fallout show. The show was released on April 10th and was streamed on the Amazon Prime Video platform. Amazon bought the rights to the series back in 2020 and has been working on it ever since.

If you've watched any of the biggest television series over the last several years, from "Stranger Things" to "Shōgun" to Marvel's "Secret Invasion", you're likely all too aware of one of the biggest debates forever raging among nerds like us: What's the best way to experience the major water-cooler shows commonly considered to be "appointment viewing"? Is the binge model popularized by Netflix the way to approach things, in which viewers are able to spend a whole weekend devouring every episode of an entire season all in one go? Or is it better to exercise a little patience and release episodes one at a time in weekly installments, allowing word-of-mouth momentum to build while keeping the entire production at the center of the cultural conversation for much, much longer? (Or, perhaps, we can have the best of both worlds through "Hacks.")

Charlie Hunnam is set to make a return to series television. The former Sons of Anarchy star is set to play the lead in Prime Video’s highly anticipated Criminal, which is based on a series of graphic novels by Ed Brubaker. The series returns Hunnam to the world of organized crime, a genre that’s paid nice dividends for him in between Sons of Anarchy and The Gentlemen. According to Deadline, Hunnam is set to play the lead, “Leo, a brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”

Bluey-mania continues.
The Disney+ series was at the top of Nielsen’s streaming charts with nearly 1.2B minutes viewed from April 29 to May 5. The new episodes that dropped the week prior surely gave it a boost, but Bluey is a mainstay on this list, racking up over a billion minutes pretty frequently.
In fact, Nielsen points out that Bluey has been in the overall Top 10 for well over a year now, and this marks its fourth time at No. 1.
It should also not surprise anyone that Grey’s Anatomy came in second place with around 1.1B minutes viewed. It’s unclear what is prompting this resurgence in the medical drama, since it’s been available on both Hulu and Netflix for quite a while.
Fallout fell to third place this week but still posted over a billion minutes viewed, which is quite impressive for the eight-episode Amazon series. It was No.

The Netflix special roasting NFL great Tom Brady made it onto the streaming charts for the week it premiered — despite it only being up for a few hours of that week.
The Roast of Tom Brady racked up 279 million minutes for the week of April 29-May 5, good for 10th place among original series in Nielsen’s rankings. The special streamed live on May 5, meaning it tallied those viewing minutes in under 12 hours. (With a running time of almost three hours, the 279 million minutes equate to about 1.6 million complete runs of the special.)
Bluey moved back into the top overall spot with 1.18 billion minutes of viewing on Disney+, adding to its total as the most streamed title in the United States so far this year (21.73 billion minutes and counting). The Netflix effect continues.
The O.G. streamer has seen major viewership success with the licensing of older titles from other producers since last year, when the long-concluded USA legal drama “Suits” dominated the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for weeks on end. Since then, several library titles have seen similar trajectories.
The newest example of the Netflix effect is “The Judge,” a 2014 film starring Robert Downey Jr. that was streamed for 703 million minutes in its first five days on Netflix. That made it the seventh-most-streamed title of the week of April 29-May 5, holding its own compared to TV titles with much longer running times.
Also notable on this week’s chart was “Dead Boy Detectives,” which rose to become the No. 8 most-streamed title with 699 million minutes watched in its first full week on Netflix after missing the overall Top 10 and instead landing at No. 3 on the streaming originals chart last week,...

There’s no doubt that the Fallout series, to put it mildly, is having a bit of a moment. The success of the Amazon TV show has generated a huge wave of players who have installed the most recent Fallout games to continue enjoying the unique ambiance of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Bethesda Game Studios is undoubtedly a titan in the RPG genre, churning out critically acclaimed franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Their games notoriously take very long to make, and often times, the inner workings of this creative powerhouse remain somewhat opaque.
In an interview with YouTube channel MinnMax, veteran developer Bruce Nesmith, who worked on iconic Bethesda titles like Daggerfall and Skyrim, offered some insight on the studio’s decision-making process, particularly the role of creative director Todd Howard.

In the early stages of Fallout 4‘s development, the super mutants were envisioned to have a much more human appearance. Jonah Lobe, the artist behind these characters, initially designed them to inspire empathy and deeper storytelling.
Lobe’s goal was to encourage the game’s designers to write more quests and dialogue for the super mutants, showcasing their emotional range and potential for complex narratives.
The Potential Design That The Super Mutant’s Almost Had
Lobe explained in a recent YouTube video that this decision might have been influenced by the small size of Bethesda’s team during Fallout 4‘s development. With only about 100 developers, compared to much larger teams at other game studios, there were simply not enough resources to fully flesh out the more human-like super mutants.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are longtime friends, but the two had never worked together. “Fallout” proved to be the perfect starting point. “Graham wrote one of my very favorite unproduced pilots ever, which was to the great ‘Star Trek’ show ‘Worf,’ which Graham always described as the ‘Baskets’ of a ‘Star Trek’ show,” Robertson-Dworet tells Gold Derby (watch above). “But I think what it showed me was that he has a really unique sensibility and he brought to that show — which is a very popular world that has been explored and very serious sci-fi tone for a long time — a lot of just sort of surprising comedy. And I think that was what ‘Fallout’ needed and I was very excited to partner with my longtime friend Graham. And when [Jonathan Nolan] offered me the IP for ‘Fallout,’ I knew I was never gonna do it alone. I was only...

The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

“Fallout 76” has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.
That is a jump from the 17 million players “Fallout 76” had totaled in December, ahead of the April 10 release of Jonathan Nolan’s “Fallout” TV adaptation on Prime Video.
“It’s kind of been sneaky popular for a while — but not to this level and it’s just been really great for the for the whole studio,” Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard, who oversees the “Fallout” franchise, told Variety.
In the under two months since the series premiered (and has already been picked up for a second season), daily active users across the “Fallout” video game franchise titles developed and published by Bethesda, a division of Microsoft Gaming, have ballooned over 600% to more than 5 million players.
