Beautiful, Touching and Wonderful.

I just don't have enough words to describe this amazing episode.

All the sadness, hopefulness, truth and beauty... I just spent the whole episode amazed with was surging on the screen.

The story of the patient with a deformed face was important and at the same time hopeful (besides the make-up is incredible) and the actor who plays the character is great as well.

The Derek plot(necessary for a long time) gets to a moving edge and will probably continue until this season finale.

But what's most wonderful in this episode is Izzie. Who'd say that such a supporting character would become the fifth season's dramatic factor? Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh and Patrick Dempsey are perfect and I hope that the three of them get Emmy nominations.

And finally it's so great to see that Grey's Anatomy's writers found the inspiration to (hopefully) turn this season finale into the best one ever.

Just perfect.

Blowhole
IngridNO-679976 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The main case is really touching, great acting. I always cry when the pasient's friends are being so kind and loving, even though they're never met. It is so touching. I don't think Izzie's overreacting that much actually when she yells at the interns. A faceless person who looks like that, and the doctors are whispering and laughing together in front of him is extremely unappropriate. Outside of the pasient's room is one thing, but in the room is unacceptable. They should be able to act professional.

Cristina's solo surgery is interesting. The pasient's acting is really good. You really feel for her. Cristina is so distant, uninterested. Her dream is coming true, but she has way too much involvement with Izzie so she neglects her part as a surgeon, which is the most important thing in her life. Eventually it becomes too much for her to handle. I really like the way they played that out. It was so powerful when she told Alex as she was about to start her surgery. And when they all line line up to see her after they know about it, it makes me cry. To see her being admitted and in the hospital bed is heartbreaking. Great music!

It's a funny bit with all the people camping out at Sheperd's trailer all day. A little cheesy and not very believable, but it's nice they try and ligthen the mood in the episode a little. It's a very serious episode.

The threesome-drama with the interns is also funny, light.

Prosthetics
ebacklin31 May 2023
In the "stand by me" episode of Grey's Anatomy, can someone tell me how they did the prosthetics or makep on that character, Dave, they called " blow hole" with half of his face missing. Was it a green screen or blue screen or whatever they called it back then? I am very interested in knowing about these details! I am fascinated by special effects. Also, who were the makeup artists in this episode? I hope the Emmy people took into consideration the special make up effects artists for episodes like this. Even though it was not real, I would be interested in finding out more detail about this episode.
