This is my favorite episode in the show. It's just so much fun as it's a parody on war movies, we see how the film behaves like a war picture as it has the formula from the training to the war itself, and clichés.
I really like the camera point of view scene, as Sponge is sort of Ug's eyes and ears as he is supplying him with video images. Sort of remind me of the film "Aliens" as we see the camera point of view of the marines and some of the shaky ness of it as their under attack. We see that in this episode it really just feeds your imagination and gives you the feeling of jeopardy as we're presented an almost invisible threat.
Really liked a couple of scenes with Ug from seeing him play with the toy soldiers, yeah, I do that too. And when he watches the screen suddenly some other feed gets crossed and it's an old war movie and he says one of my favorite quotes in the episode.
My favorite moment which is obviously a parody on the famous death scene from "Platoon "was when Budnick he doesn't want to listen to anything Donkey Lips says and stupidly walks out of the trench toward the flag making himself an open target. It's just always cracks me up as we see Budnick just slowly go down as if he's really being shot and we even hear dramatic music. I don't feel bad for Budnick, that's what you get for being stupid in war.
But what really makes this episode is Donkey Lips himself whom is another character not given much attention. The guy really knows his stuff as we see he has been studying war tactics and survival, this really displays that there really is more to this character that he actually does have a strength/talent in life, he just needs the chance to utilize it.
There is this small moment I thought was kind of cool when one of the opposing team tries to soak him with a water balloon but then Donkey Lips disarms him and uses that balloon on him, I thought that was kind of bad ass.
Can Donkey Lips turn the tide and win this war, you'll just have to wait and find out.
