No. None of Metallica's three former bass players (Jason Newsted, Cliff Burton and Ron McGovney) nor Dave Mustaine make any sort of appearance in the game. It is possible to play as 80s Metallica, but even then, the present band line-up remains the same.
Yes. Guitar Hero: Metallica is the first game in the series to feature an entire setlist that is playable from the very start. The Career Mode is still there, but entirely optional as players can choose to play any of the songs without having to unlock anything.
Expert Plus is an additional difficulty available for the drums. An extra pedal must be purchased as the difficulty requires you to play an extra "note" as well as the standard ones. This difficulty is only available for the drums.
All of Metallica's albums, including Garage Inc., include at least one song in the set list. Load, Garage Inc., St. Anger and Death Magnetic each feature one song each, whereas the rest have two or more.
The entire Death Magnetic album is available as downloadable content, but cannot be unlocked or played otherwise.
