Thrilling, Emotional, Epic
This was a huge chapter in the Ros Na Rún Cinematic Universe or as I like to call it: THE RNRCU. This is the collision that the show has been building towards for the past few months. The themes and the emotions here are extremely strong here. We have the themes of Family, Love, Hatred, Betrayal, Identity, Family and legacy. These themes are sown into the stellar script with pure subtlety. We have Nathan, our hero of the story, fighting for truth, for honour, for justice. With Briain, our three-dimensional antagonist, countering Brian's attack with using his loved ones against him. Turning Bernie and Bobbi Lee to his side. Nathan, like Luke Skywalker, is torn between the light and dark sides of life. He always fights for truth but after life takes a poor turn it leads to a horrible low point. Assumably fired from his job at the cafe, his love interest betrays him, His boss and Good Friend Bernie and Mother (by paper!) Bobbi Lee deem him as Andy's spy. After drinking AN ENTIRE SIX PACK OF CANS, Nathan realises Andy was right, Andy, his horrible father, locked up in prison, was right about everything. About Bernie, his mother Bobbi Lee, about the way thing work in Ros Na Rún or as Nathan says "ABOUT THEM ALL", he turns to the dark side. He spent weeks trying to fight for truth and he came to the realisation that it wasn't going to work. He calls his father, in attempt at to get revenge. This is a new Nathan, this isn't the "Golden Boy" (as Briain puts it) that we knew before. This is a new Nathan who has been disregarded by lies and tragic events, he is completely motivated by Rage, by anger. Cut to credits.
There have been other events in this episode, Angela returning to Scotland and revealing about Maggie and Tadhg's relationship. Dee spiking Michelle's drink with Tropical Juice, causing her to go the A&E with Mack. But the major part of this is that Fiach knows because he let Dee make her drink , he could reveal it any second to Mack, especially after him and Mack settled the beef over Jay that they had over a pint at Tigh Tadhg's. Could this be the end of Mack and Dee?
It was clear to me that Nathan's arc was the highlight and main focus of the episode. These past few moths have been a rollercoaster, and this is clearly leading to the end of one of the greatest stories ever told, Nathan V. Briain. Will they settle the beef like Mack and Fiach, I don't think so. We will see the direction the storyline goes in the next few months but it's clear that this is setting up a big battle for the ages and something that could tear Ros Na Rún apart.
I look forward to the continuation of this amazing feat of television that will surely go down in the books of one of the greatest episodes of 30 minute TV in history.
