The crew of Discovery is finally given updated uniforms for their service in the Starfleet of the 32nd century, matching the gray uniforms seen on other Starfleet personnel of the time. This is the only appearance of the crew in these uniforms, as it was decided in the interim between seasons 3 and 4 that the gray of the uniforms did not stand out enough from the colors of the Discovery interior sets. Behind-the-scenes materials for the final scene, debuting the crew in their new 32nd-century uniforms, show Ensign Tilly wearing a red command-division uniform, rather than the blue science-division uniform. The uniform color was altered in post-production. Though it is not confirmed why this change occurred, it is possible Tilly was at this point meant to stay on as first officer of Discovery on a permanent basis, which would have put her in the command division.
