It's all about the journey
By-TorX-125 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Into the Unknown is an interesting take on the supernatural investigation genre that foregrounds the survivalist skills of host, Cliff Simon, over the ghosts and creatures that are the subject of each episode. As such, the journey to the remote locales is of great interest, as are the technological aspects of the search for ghost marchers, mysterious lights in the sky, the Jersey Devil, or the Sandman of the Mojave desert. That said spectral entities are never conclusively captured on film or witnessed might frustrate some viewers, but I like the objective approach, as the show never attempts to claim that some sound in the night is categorical proof of the phenomenon.

Cliff is doing a great job but I wish he could stay a lot longer in these quest's to gather more information on the subjects and find solid evidence.

Good show but...

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I like the variety of material. The guy Cliff does a good job. But there are some things that were strange, especially the shows on Hawaii and Mt Shasta.

On the Big Island, I'm not aware of any caves at Ka Lae, the South Point of the Big Island, that you can walk into. Maybe there are. Kula Kai Caverns are closer to the main road, so maybe he filmed that segment there.

I'm not sure where he went for the waterfall and pond portion of the Pololu Valley, but his last segment where he was camping was on the main trail down. Best spot to get pics of the black sand beach. Just head to the north part of the Big Island on the Kona side. It's about 7-8 miles past Hawi. Dead end's there. Get there early. Limited parking!

Cliff also says he is at a grave or burial site in Holualoa. But I swear he's at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park 20 miles south of there. Same wall. Same backstory.

Finally, they went into Pluto's cave (which is a real location close to Mt. Shasta) and he said there were areas that kept going. My daughter and I just went there last year. It dead ends at an opening that you can't climb out of, so you have to walk through the cave system again to get back out. Creepy place, but it's no more than a mile. The coolest part of the cave's are the writings on the wall by people that were apparently living in the cave around the 1900s (they wrote the date but I can't remember the exact year) and a word in a Native American language that meant flesh eater.

Anyway, I like the show, but when you have been to these places, and know that the storyline is skewed, it is hard to keeping watching it. I just like to see the places he is going.

A superficial glimpse into paranormal activity in wild places
spinchatter57 August 2020
In this show, host Cliff Simon conducts superficial investigations into paranormal or odd activity occurring in wild places. In the first episode, he investigates the legend of the rougarou in Louisiana. The entire first half of the episode is spent talking to eyewitnesses or relatives of eyewitnesses of the beast, before boots finally hit the ground. Then a cursory search is conducted and you can guess what he finds. The second episode on Mt Shasta is better, but still feels like a mere scratching of the surface of the mystery. The "investigations" in this show are shallow and have no hope of finding anything interesting. That Travel Channel decided to debut this show at an 11pm ET timeslot tells you everything you need to know about "Into the Unknown".

Overhyped scenarios
CinemaSlant17 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show is kind of rubbish. It's clearly an exaggerated actor's version of a docu-style show trying to make paranormal claims sound like a survival hunt. I often find myself laughing. Its so stereotypical and outlandish. In-shape older ex-military guy roughing the wild trying to find Bigfoot. Oh...and lets make him British to make it seem more exciting cause we already have Don Wildman doing the same show under a different title. And everything is like rushed like at any minute the creature is gonna attack. Just eliminates any kind of credibility to the investigations. There might be sightings of a bigfoot creature in the Mojave Desert. Thats fine. But investigate that instead of leaving oranges in a trap. Just absurd.

Sadly disappointed
nyrhinentiina1 September 2020
Sure, I'm interested in paranormal and all kind of mysteries. I had big expectations for this show, but it didn't live up to them.

The host is shown to be something like little arrogant wanna be superhero. That Cliff Simon I know is NOT like that. Or maybe I haven't seen that side of him before? I don't know if that was intended but that is the impression I get from the show.

Then the music that has put on the footage. No. It just annoying. Maybe it should create some tension or excitement, but the problem is that I don't know if the sounds I hear are coming from the "soundtrack" or do they belong to the actual footage. This makes the show look and feel phony. And editing is bad. They used same waterfall footage in two different episodes. In Brown Mountain lights and in the Night Marchers. Why? Come on, that's underestimating the viewers.

If this wasn't hosted by Cliff Simon I would have stopped watching after one episode. This is my honest opinion. Did not meant to be rude. Just constructive criticism.

Great Stories, Entertaining, and Awesome Scenery and Visuals
dustinnaef6 August 2020
Into the Unknown features a lot of fascinating stories and legends behind some of the most scenic and adventurous places you can travel to, and I think even people who aren't into the paranormal should enjoy going along on the journey, Cliff Simon is an outstanding host and I think the episodes are balanced and well-made.

Boring
carolann38381 September 2020
He is so dramatic yet never finds anything. The things he leaves out for the beast is always torn when he returns yet he never sees anything, never catches anything in the act. So bogus.

Conclusion after watching 6 episodes -> SCAM
jaydipdave13 October 2020
Episod 4 and 5 showcase a waterfall. (Same video and same shots). The only difference is one was said to be in North Carolina and "the other one" in Huawei island. Seriously?? I checked this blunder twice.

Alright, the idiot puts food for bigfoot and some other monsters. But he never faces the motion activated camera to the food!!!

Total blunder. Scam.

Educational, interesting , fresh look.
colcliff-17 August 2020
"Into The Unknown" is a wonderful series! Narrator Cliff Simon does an extraordinary job educating viewers by simultaneously exploring folklore and legends, as well as the geography of the locations he visits. From the Louisiana bayou to California's infamous Mt. Shasta, you certainly dont want to miss these wild adventures into the wild and into legend.

Lazy and sloppy
gordonlannigan15 January 2023
A complete and utterly useless show about some south african guy trampling around the legendary paranormal hotspots around the globe. Using his learned skillset of aiming a parabolic mic, hanging fruit from trees and tracking nothing, our presenter has the ability to sucker you in on his journey of nothingness. Speaking with several eye witnesses and true paranormal investigators leads our trepid adventurer stumbling headlong into places in search for answers only leaving the audience watching this mess less of a paranormal believer. Fans of cryptid or paranormal mystery investigating shows should simply forget about this one. Nothing new revealed, nothing to see here....move along!!!

Not great
o-a-9866915 January 2021
I've been watching this show recently, although where I am watching it, it's now called "Uncharted Mysteries". The show is very over-acted by Cliff, I understand it's for 'entertainment purposes only', but it's clearly fake. For example, the camera footage they show from a trail cam is clearly from a GoPro and they have added some text on it to make it seem like it's from a trail camera. There's no real investigations going on, unless you call hanging a chocolate bar and 3 apples from a tree an 'investigation'. It's really awful to watch, it doesn't feel like a documentary whatsoever - Cliff is acting like he's in an expensive aftershave advert. Thoroughly disappointed.

You just have to watch!
shelvis-3404313 August 2020
I love the new Travel Channel series Into the Unknown with Cliff Simon. I always enjoy stories of mysterious places that could have a possible paranormal connection. Cliff is an excellent storyteller (and dreamy to watch I must add) and brings you through your TV right into his adventures! Now, there are times you'll think, "oh hell no", when Cliff journeys into some insane areas, and it HAS to be in the dark of night! Each Monday night, I'm left wanting more. Cliff, come to Texas and try to solve our weird mysterious places. I'll be your guide!

I don't think these reviewers get the point...
vnssyndrome8910 May 2022
This is not some stupid, uneducated show that fakes or hypes evidence. This show is as much about the folklore, as it is about one man's JOURNEY. This is not, "Finding Bigfoot". I think this might have been better on, "The Science Channel," because it is a bit more high brow. People who say it is "boring" or lacking, should go watch something less skewed towards educating the masses. Almost half of the show (like "Ghost Adventures") is about the history & folklore of a place. But people who don't like history, or more likely, can't sit still long enough to listen to it, won't like this.
