Ghost Rider is one of the most popular Marvel characters fans have been clamoring to see in the MCU. However, fans have also debated over who should be the actor playing the Spirit of Vengeance on the big screen. While many believe that actor Keanu Reeves is the best fit for the part, another actor makes an equally worthy candidate.
Keanu Reeves has been a fan-favorite to play MCU’s Ghost Rider.
In the past, The Walking Dead-fame actor Norman Reedus publicly voiced his desire to play the role of Ghost Rider in the MCU. Given Reedus’ filmography and public persona, there is an argument to be made for him probably being better suited for the MCU’s version of Ghost Rider. Here is why Norman Reedus might be a better pick for Ghost Rider in the MCU.

The Nicolas Cage resurgence as of late has interestingly mostly found him in more abstract kinds of films as opposed to his more commercially appealing blockbusters of yesteryear. While many have pined for a National Treasure 3, Cage has been partaking in indie films like Pig, Mandy and Dream Scenario. However, he would also mix in a couple mass audience projects like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Renfield. Deadline has now reported that Cage is set to star in The Carpenter’s Son, a horror tale that’s based on the rarely-told childhood of Jesus Christ.
The official synopsis for The Carpenter’s Son reads,
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension.

Two things that make any movie better when added to the mix are monsters and Nic Cage. With Arcadian we get both. The sixty-year-old actor has gone through a significant career shift in his later years. He certainly hasn’t slowed down, starring in five films released last year and popping-in for a quick (and confusing) cameo for DC’s The Flash. Beginning around 2013’s Joe and continuing with films like Mandy, Pig and Dream Scenario he’s gravitated towards smaller films with a focus on character exploration amidst extraordinary circumstances. 2024 continues that trend with a successful spin on the post-apocalyptic genre.

Just barely 60, Nicolas Cage may actually be nearing retirement, saying he only has a handful of movies left in him. And according to the Oscar winner, National Treasure 3 will not be one of them, throwing shade at Disney, saying there was no treasure to be found at the studio. With that, that might be the nail in the coffin of a National Treasure 3, as now mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer is saying a third installment won’t go forward without Cage’s involvement.
Bruckheimer recently told MovieWeb that he personally has hopes for a threequel but it all falls on Cage. “Well, we hope there’s a National Treasure 3. We’ve been working on it for quite a while. We have a brilliant writer working on it right now, so hopefully, if we get a script in a timely fashion, we’ll send it to Nic [Cage] and, if he likes it,...

Nicolas Cage won’t be back to National Treasure 3, and he says that the film isn’t happening at Disney.
By this stage, it’s hardly surprising that this particular story has come to this particular conclusion. But hey: National Treasure 3 isn’t going to happen.
The news was confirmed by its star, Nicolas Cage, who’s on the promotional trail at the moment over at the SXSW Festival. He was asked directly by Screen Rant if National Treasure 3 was going to happen, and gave a fairly to the point reply.
“No, there is no National Treasure 3”, he said. “If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
That was the end of his statement on the matter. Shit, I’ve got to get 300 words out of this.

Nicolas Cage is one of the biggest names in the world of Hollywood thanks to his well-varied genres of movies, but he is also known for his eccentric roles, bordering on the realm of absurdity. This is especially true for his role as Ghost Rider.
Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage took on the role of Johnny Blaze, embodying the Ghost Rider character, in the superhero film released by Sony Pictures in 2007. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the movie proved to be a box office hit. Its success paved the way for a sequel, titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which was released in 2012. However, it appears he won’t return as Ghost Rider again following his remarks about National Treasure 3.

Nathan Drake and Lara Croft could be Hollywood’s go-to treasure hunters until someone else comes along because, according to Nicolas Cage, a National Treasure 3 is not happening. Cage played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s 2004 action-adventure romp, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets mapping a path to theaters in 2007.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Cage said, “No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
Cage’s verbal mousetrap is quite telling of the actor’s tolerance for how Disney conducts its business. Cage’s comment may refer to how Disney fumbled the bag with its sequel series National Treasure: Edge of History. The adventure series starring Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was canceled after one season despite having ties to the Cage-led feature films.

Nicolas Cage has ruled out a third 'National Treasure' movie. The 60-year-old actor played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in the 2004 adventure movie and the 2007 sequel 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' but has emphatically denied the possibility of another film.He told Screen Rant: "No, there is no ‘National Treasure 3’. Nicolas Cage, one of the most talented actors of our time is not a stranger to comic book movies. We have seen him having a history with Marvel, first portraying the anti-hero Ghost Rider in two feature films, then voicing Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while talking about his further involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage told Variety that he does not need to be in the MCU.
Nicolas Cage in It Could Happen to You
Seems like he will be back. Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. At present, there is no plot details have been out about the new Spider-Man Noir show, but getting Nicolas Cage on board will surely give hype to the show.
Suggested“I can just do it in a movie.

The National Treasure movies, while preposterous in plot, are actually quite good pieces of escapist entertainment. Who doesn’t want to see Nicolas Cage steal the Declaration of Independence or clear his family’s name of Lincoln’s assassination? Considering that the two movies collectively grossed over $800 million worldwide, it’s surprising that we never got a third entry. And it’s not just us that thinks so, but also Benjamin Franklin Gates himself.
Speaking with Deadline, Nicolas Cage championed the National Treasure movies as plenty of fun but was also blown away that Disney dropped the ball in building the franchise. “I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. It looks like the "National Treasure" universe wasn't quite ready to expand. Deadline is reporting that the Disney+ spin-off series "National Treasure: Edge of History" has been cancelled after just one season. Guest stars like Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and franchise newbie Catherine Zeta-Jones apparently weren't enough to save the tie-in series, which arrived a full 15 years after the second film in the Nicolas Cage-led franchise.
"National Treasure: Edge of History" followed Jess (Lisette Olivera), a second-generation treasure-keeper and first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who's tasked with continuing her father's legacy. The first season followed a mystery related to a necklace Jess inherited from her father, one that kickstarts an adventure with ties to secret societies, the Spanish Inquisition, the Battle of the Alamo, and much more. The teen-centric show aimed to capture a younger generation of fans, but with the news of its cancellation, one wonders if it came a...

Justin Bartha, who plays Riley Poole in the “National Treasure” series, entered the ongoing TV spin-off “National Treasure: Edge Of History” and has upped the stakes for the third film.

Disney+ is currently continuing the National Treasure franchise with the series National Treasure: Edge of History, starring the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and even features a returning character with Justin Bartha reprising his role as Riley Poole. Setting the new show within the universe of the first two Jon Turteltaub-directed films meant the possibility of Nicolas Cage making an appearance. However, Bartha wouldn’t count out a third movie’s existence, according to Variety.
When inquired about the third movie’s script that producer Jerry Bruckheimer claims is finished, Bartha replies,
There is a script. That’s all I’ll say. There have been a few different scripts, actually, but the one thing that has to happen is for all the stars to align. I had seen something awhile ago, and it was solid, but the unsung hero of these movies that doesn’t get mentioned as much is Jon Turteltaub.

For the last 15 years, a vocal group of fans has clamored for the schlocky, B-movie thrills of "National Treasure" to be brought to a satisfying, trilogy-ending conclusion with a third big-screen blockbuster. Released in the early aughts and unabashedly of its time (for better and worse), the Nicolas Cage-starring duology released during a very specific and now-nostalgic moment in the industry: when an A-list actor's gloriously unhinged energy, a dash of adventure pulp, and an easily-marketable sales pitch — we're going to steal the Declaration of Independence! — could catapult a film and its successor to upwards of 800 million in global earnings at the box office. In the years since, however, prospects of a threequel have faded right alongside general audience interest in original, star-driven blockbusters that remain utterly unconnected from established IP.

Move on over, Matthew McConaughey. The Cageaissance is here. Nicolas Cage has been back in action in a big way. The actor has earned rave reviews for his work on Pig and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and Deadline reports that Nicolas Cage is now set to star in Dream Scenario, a new comedy from A24 that Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce through their Square Peg production banner.
Unfortunately, we don’t know all that much about this new Nicholas Cage comedy, but I am more than ready for whatever Cage has in store for us. Kristoffer Borgli, who made his directorial debut with Sick of Myself, is set to helm Dream Scenario. Sick of Myself debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and followed a couple in an unhealthy, competitive relationship that takes a vicious turn when one of them suddenly breaks through as a contemporary artist.

For the first time in a long time, we may have some actual hope that "National Treasure 3" might just be happening. We're still a pretty long way away from the long-awaited sequel actually getting a green light from Disney, but mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer did just offer an encouraging update on the matter, indicating that Nicolas Cage will hopefully have a script in his hands in the not-too-distant future.
Bruckheimer is currently promoting the home video release of "Top Gun: Maverick" and had a chat with the folks at Comicbook.com. During the conversation, the producer gave an update on the sequel that has seemingly been stalled out for years now. As Bruckheimer tells it, the script is currently being worked on, he thinks it's good, and they intend to send it to Cage soon.

Not helping matters was the perception that Cage was spinning out of control, owing the IRS $6.3 million in unpaid property taxes and having a monthly nut that far exceeded his income. Cage started taking any role that was offered, according to his candid interview in GQ Magazine, . “The phone stopped ringing. It was like, ‘What do you mean we’re not doing ‘National Treasure 3’? It’s been 14 years. Why not?'” Deep down,...

Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage might be finally transitioning away from strictly making smaller VOD features. Cage is playing himself in Lionsgate‘s meta-movie “The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent” and most recently was cast as Universal‘s newest incarnation of Count Dracula in the horror-comedy “Renfield” starring opposite Nicholas Hoult, which could mean he might continue that role in other Universal Monsters projects.

Around 2014, after Nicolas Cage had a string of box office flops with the likes of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” the actor started becoming the face of straight-to-vod action movies. Those roles piled up in the dozens as reports surfaced that Cage blew his $150 million fortune, owed the IRS $6.3 million in property taxes and was taking every acting role he could in order to get out of debt. The actor recently clarified this period of his life in an interview with GQ magazine.
“I’ve got all these creditors and the IRS and I’m spending $20,000 a month trying to keep my mother out of a mental institution, and I can’t,” Cage said about his debts. “It was just all happening at once.”

You can't cage the Cage. He does what he wants when he wants, and in this cage case, he's not going to hang around and wait for Disney to get their act together. Sure, us Treas-heads have been pining for the "National Treasure" threequel since the second film was released all the way back in 2007, and yes, we would accept any scraps Cage would throw at us, including a quick cameo in the upcoming "National Treasure" TV series, but it's not looking good. In fact, it might be time for us to hang up our many copies of the Declaration of Independence for good.

Disney Plus has ordered 10 episodes of a new TV series based on the popular “National Treasure” films.
The show, a reimagining of the franchise, will include original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. Directed by Mira Nair, the series will explore identity, community and patriotism through the eyes of Jess Morales, a 20-year-old DREAMer who sets off on an adventure to recover lost treasure and uncover her mysterious family history.
No official announcements have been made in regard to casting the series, but according to Bruckheimer, the show will keep the same concept as the movies while featuring a much younger cast. The Wibberleys serve as executive producers with Jerry Bruckheimer Television, with ABC Signature as the studio. The show will also bring on senior-level writers to join the Wibberleys, who have worked with Bruckheimer on other films like “Bad Boys II” and “G-Force.”

Incredibly, it’s been over thirteen years since we saw the last of National Treasure, and supporters have been demanding a third entry for just as long. The two old fashioned adventures did decent business at the box office after earning a combined total of over $800 million, while they’ve since gone on to enjoy a lasting legacy as a pair of entertainingly undemanding blockbusters.
On the big screen at least, Disney are steadfastly gearing their output towards continuing existing franchises and attempting to launch new ones, so it seems strange that Nicolas Cage’s Benjamin Gates has yet to return. The first installment and sequel Book of Secrets received middling reviews from critics, but they’ve found a place in the hearts of fans around the world.

It goes to show that even the Mouse House isn’t going to toss money in all directions as often as people think since the idea of making a National Treasure 3 isn’t completely dead, but it’s currently hanging out in that area known as limbo since it sounds as though too many flops have kind of soured Disney execs to the idea of simply going full-speed ahead with every project that comes across their desk. A lot of people hold a special place in their heart for the National Treasure franchise, even though it only spanned two movies, the last of which was released thirteen years ago. There’s just something so endearing and charming about the old-fashioned blockbusters that double as educational history lessons, all wrapped up in a nonsensical plot and led by Nicolas Cage utilizing his star power and natural charisma to the fullest.
Critics weren’t exactly impressed, with the two installments holding weak Rotten Tomatoes scores of 44% and 35% respectively, but the audience scores sit at a much higher 76% and 67%, and both National Treasure and Book of Secrets have become firm cult favorites over the years. But despite the series earning more than $800 million at the box office, development on a third entry has never seemed to get out of first gear.

There’s no rule that says actors can’t play a role in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Dceu, and there are plenty of stars that have straddled both sides of the divide. Ryan Reynolds famously played both Green Lantern and Deadpool, while Idris Elba made the transition when he suited up as Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad after five appearances as the McU’s Heimdall.
Zachary Levi, Laurence Fishburne, J.K. Simmons, Djimon Honsou and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje have all appeared in both of Hollywood’s premiere shared universes, too, while Taika Waititi and Michael Keaton will be joining them when The Suicide Squad and The Flash arrive. You can even add Ben Affleck, Chris Evans, Tom Hardy, Josh Brolin and numerous others to the list if you count actors that have starred for both Marvel and DC without having necessarily shown up in one or both of the interconnected mythologies.

Having recently asked to delay his latest court proceedings in order to shoot Fantastic Beasts 3, it looks like Johnny Depp will be spending a lot more time in the courtroom as his messy legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard continue. And though the 57 year-old might have been dropped from his lucrative and career-defining role as Jack Sparrow as Disney moves forward on two Pirates of the Caribbean movies without his involvement, based on recent speculation, there’s plenty of other franchises he could end up joining.
As well as his continuing presence as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series, concerns over a lack of job offers have reportedly resulted in longtime friend Robert Downey Jr. extending an invitation for Depp to board Sherlock Holmes 3, in what would admittedly be a great aesthetic fit for one of the industry’s most eccentric and bohemian talents.

In fact, despite being released ten years ago, Inception is still the only one of the 20 highest-grossing movies in the studio’s history that isn’t connected in some way to either Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings or a DC comic book character. Unfortunately for WB, though, Nolan hasn’t shown much interest in making sequels to any of his features that don’t involve a psychologically-troubled billionaire dressing up as a bat and beating criminals to a pulp.
