Confusing and boring
bellino-angelo201429 November 2021
A Middle East terrorist (Brad Dourif) is plotting an attack with a nuclear bomb in the US that has to be detonated in the center of Los Angeles. However the only ones that could stop him are a Terminator-like vampire and a rogue cop that form an unlikely duo.

BLOOD SHOT has quite a odd reputation. It has 3,3 and yet 3 recent reviews with 10s written by folks who probably were involved in the production. With such a stellar cast (Dourif, Jeff Chase, Christopher Lambert as the US President and Lance Henriksen as his secretary) someone would expect an entertaining horror. Instead it was just a sloppy mess with bad special effects, explosions clearly made with poor CGI and plot holes like those of Swiss cheese. Not even good for an evening at home movie as at times it was very slow.

Blood Shot (2013)
morrigan19828 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The plot is about a Vampire working for the good guys and helping with the countries safety. You have a cop committed to capture and kill this vampire. He judges him by his appearance and for the fact that he acts as a vigilante. He thinks he is a monster and he wants him out of the picture! The vampire wants to help his country in the fight against terrorists.

The leader (Brad Dourif) of the terrorist group is a fanatic who wants to blow up the country with a nuke and the vampire teams up with the cop to stop them… So it is not exactly a masterpiece as you can imagine. It is not that good either. It is entertaining though, if you want something to pass the time, if you wanted to see a good horror you wouldn't pick this one. So you know what you are getting yourself into!

Could had been good, but was a mess.

When i first saw the cover, or the french title in the video store(yes some people still rent from video stores) "Vampire Assassin" i knew i was in for something pretty lame and dumb. Oh well i have not rent one of those in ages, and i had a coupon for 2 at the price of 1...

The movie start right away and this is my major complain, its never explained why the cop is after the vampire. We are supposed to believe the cop only want to bring the vampire to justice because he kill people... which is extremely lame. Eventually they will have to team up as the synopsis mention to take down a terrorist who want to blow out a Nuke in L.A. OK this part is from the start extremely hard to believe, terrorist running freely in the US in full "arabian look" and all. But on top of that the leader is so caricatured you can't take him seriously at all.

When it comes to other characters, the vampire is OK, he is imposing, look strong, outside the fact that he only use double pistol, you could think he is what you have in mind when you think "vampire". The cop ain't bad, but his character is so badly introduced you have trouble caring for him.

But the bad guys are just a total mess, they can't be believe in at all, and the whole concept of the president talking from his limo to a vampire division administrator is so whatever.

After that, i would say the way the movie is filmed is pretty decent, camera work is fine, blood is fine, but i am not sure if this is part of the vampire "powers" but when he sponge bullets, they just disappear in a little smoke explosion, not even damaging his suit, which i tough was extremely silly and just poor special effects.

In the end i would say the movie is hard to like, even if you see it as a total "nanar" as we call them in french, which could be translated to "a silly but fun movie" in English. The pacing ain't very good, the story is, even tough not really complicated" hard to follow because its simply badly written, and the characters outside the vampire himself, seem way too caricatured and dumb.

In the end really not a must, whatever you are a fan of vampire movies or action movies. And i saw it witch a bunch of beers... so i gave him a big chance.

In case you misunderstood that's negative 10 stars. Wtf was that?!?! I saw where several people gave it 10 stars. We definitely did watch the same movie. I'd rather watch ticyok for 10 hour straight as to watch blood shot from. Start to finish. BY far the worse film I've ever watched. That's saying a lot. Please believe me when I say don't waist your time. Watching paint dry is more entertaining then this film.

Did Not Like This
soulfunkyjazz21 September 2023
I just watched this movie still not sure what to make of it .Is it some sort of black comedy or what ?? And Brad Douriff in black face ? Both him and Lance Hendrikson must have needed a pay check pretty bad to be involved with this rubbish . I'm suprised no members of the arabaic community complained or were up in arms about this monstrosity of a film . Talk about stereo types . If i was into a movie like this or something like it i'd rather watch hell boy that movie had some depth to it and more meaning ful characters .But this ?? Its more like a TV pilot for a TV show . I lost interest half way thru this give it a miss. Gave it a one for effort.

Hysterical, lots of memorable one liners
daletheminoltaman9 February 2014
Hysterical, lots of memorable one liners! This movie is fantastic, I do not get the bad reviews. Well unless it was by people that do not understand clever humor, hysterical one liners and a fantastically silly plot. If you are looking for a uplifting, super fun Sunday afternoon then check this movie out, it is just simply a great time.

The one liners really make the movie and Brad Dourif and Christopher Lambert are great as always. I really do not know what else to say, this movie is great, if you like purposely silly, fun movies then you will love this one. Give it a shot, you will have a great time.

Wow they like a long review for movies here, most people just want a quick summary of how the movie was without someone giving away the plot too much and ruining the movie. That is why I never listen to movie critic reviews, they not only give a pretentious review but they give away too much in the movie and ruin it.

Enough Fun to Warrent a Sequel
gregsrants18 February 2014
Some of my guiltiest pleasures come in the form of horror comedies from the 1980's. Waxwork, Dead Heat, House, are just three of the many titles that I would step on and over young children just to get in front of the screen to which they were projecting. Generally, the films are not very good. But they had a playfulness to them and I will give the benefit of the doubt to the producers that they knew exactly what they intending and to what audience it was intended.

The new millennium has tried to produce some of the magic of the horror/comedy peers of yesteryear, but have been largely unsuccessful. With exceptions handed out to a small few (including the best example of late: Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) the studios try too hard to mix the different genres without just letting it flow and develop into what it might become.

The latest horror/comedy to cross our desk was Blood Shot – a film that has brought 80's horror actors Brad Dourif, Lance Henriksen and Christopher Lambert together (even if none of the three share a scene). Blood Spot is a typical buddy cop film that is not your typical buddy cop film. Brennan Elliott plays Rip, a rogue cop who fights both terrorists and vampires. Bailey Smith plays a vampire – a vampire that works for the CIA (Vampire Division) under the direction of Sam (Henricksen). Rip and the Vampire are constantly at odds with each other with Rip trying everything from garlic to holy water to bring down the undead bloodsucker. But both are crusaders for good. And both find themselves having to team together to fight an evil Middle Eastern terrorist (Dourif) who is planning a nuclear attack on U.S. soil. That's the story. Long and short.

Blood Shot is based on the short film of the same name by writer/director Dietrich Johnston. Johnston gets a bigger budget (estimated at $3.5 million) for this full length feature and does the best with opportunity spinning an enjoyable tale that has a handful of good one-liners and a whole lot of fun as the story plays out.

The film never takes itself too seriously and comes very close at times to resembling a deleted scene from The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! But it manages to consistently pull itself back in from the brink of absurdity to get back to what it does best – entertain.

The story in itself is not ground breaking and painting white actors brown to look like Middle Eastern terrorists will either be offensive or hilarious depending on one's sense of humor. But the action and the relationship between the two reluctant partners is enough to keep this film afloat and amass enough appreciation to present a recommendation.

More interestingly still is where the premise can go from here. The idea of a vigilante vampire has been done before with Blade, but Blood Shot doesn't attempt for spectacular stunts and action sequences. It instead spends time on character and that makes the idea of continuing the series an interesting premise we would like to see exploited.

Completely brilliant. One for the time capsule.
Folks, this is one for the books. Ever wish there was a film made about a badass, gun slinging vampire who is secretly contracted by the President of the United States (Highlander himself, Christopher Lambert) to carry out dangerous missions and thwart evil Islamic terrorists? Well your very specific and demented wish just came true. Imagine for a moment that John Carpenter, Joe Dante and Michael Bay got hammered one night and wrote the most ridiculous script for a horror action comedy this century has seen. The resulting treatise would be Blood Shot, an absolute hoot of a flick that combines elements that wouldn't be caught dead (or undead) together in any other setting but that of the gloriously unrestricted world of the B movie. The President uses a craggy operative named Sam (ever brilliant Lance Henriksen) to brief the Vampire in question (Michael Bailey Smith) on his missions. He is to hunt down violent Islamic rebels, led by a dude called Bob. Bob is Arabic. Bob is played by Brad Dourif, who is white as a sheet, but here shows up caked in brown makeup and hollering away in the most idiotic accent I've ever heard. His casting alone is just hysterical, and should drive the social activists up the wall screaming, while the rest of us howl in with laughter. His character is called Bob because of everyone's inability to pronounce his real arabic name which is a mile long and completely nonsensical. His crew are terrorists straight from a Mel Brooks film, complete with a midget amongst them. There's also a lone hero cop (Brennan Eliott channels the hotshot, reckless law enforcers of 80's movies) hunting both the terrorists and the Vampire, getting in everyone's way and capping anything that moves. The fact that Highlander plays the President in a film about a Vampire who hunts down terrorists named Bob should be more than enough for any self respecting film fan to drop whatever they're doing and go bask in this baby's glow. Despite being a direct to video flick, it contains not a trace of the trademark ineptitude and shoddiness that you're always likely to find when exploring the genre. Campiness and lunacy, oh yes. But never mediocrity or laziness. But that's what your friendly neighborhood Nate is here for, to wade through the unwatchable sludge and mine out the priceless gems for you all to see. This one's funny, imaginative, off the wall and a pint of B positive fun.

Bite Me!
jabrbi27 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
OK, here's the low down: There's a cop who's personal mission is to kill/capture vampires - cos they kill humans, of course - and there's this vampire hit-man he's desperate to defeat.

There's a vampire hit-man, who works for the government as a black ops specialist.

And there's an Arabian desperate to blow up an American city with a nuke.

Of course the film turns into a buddy film of cop and vampire against the terrorists, but that misses the point of the film.

How do you kill a vampire? Bullets turn to dust, garlic just makes his clothes smell, holy water is wet, silver bullets sting - and then he beats the s*** out of you.

The humour in this film may be too dark for Americans as the some of the jokes are so dark, but if you can key into the vibe there are so many sly jokes that you'll need to watch this film twice just to catch most of them. My favourite is the running joke that every time the vampire captures a terrorist they turn to the vampire and beg, "Bite Me!" - although the scene with the body bags is a close second.

The cop isn't a good enough actor to carry the film, but thankfully the vampire steals every scene he's in. Brad Dourif as Bob the head terrorist stops just short of chewing the scenery, and is borderline racist, but that's probably better than having an Arabian actor caricature himself. (Was Alexander Siddig unavailable?) The plot is simple, linear and predictable, but that leaves you free to relish the sly humour and the great performance of Michael Bailey Smith as the vampire.

With a better actor as the cop, this film could have been another Lethal Weapon. Sadly, it never quite takes off into that league, but it's great fun to watch the vampire hold up his end of the conversation.

Most UNDERRATED movie EVER!! Please read my review!! Phenomenal!!!
joiningjt25 January 2021
I have no fricking idea of how this is rated a 3.3?????? What??? It was hysterical, amazing acting especially by the 2 lead actors, decent special effects especially for a lower budget film the camera work was spot on, great story, and a phenomenal ending....did I fricking miss something??? Hollywood must be doing this to hurt small studios from doing what they did, make a phenomenal entertaining film without spending millions. This absolutely blows away 90 percent of the comedy horror films out there. Trust me just BUY the bluray I did and I'm extremely glad I did!! I purchased the 3d bluray and I absolutely LOVED this film. I pray to the comedy gods please make a sequel!!!!!!!!!!!

"Lethal Weapon" meet "What we do in the Shadows"
obheron20 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is not an horror movie ; it's a satire of vampire movie and buddy cop movie.

It's a self aware movie that plays all the tropes really well.

The story is about a self-loathing vampire hunting down terrorists. Other than that, he's a wise cracking, gunslinging vampire one-lining puns left and right will killing the bad guys or beating down the cop.

The cop is doing as much monologing as a detective in a film noir. He reminds me of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson's character in Lethal Weapon). He's got as much punishment in this movie as any superhero in a Marvel movie. In other word, you need suspension of disbelief to enjoy the ride.

The terrorists are stereotypical, and they even says so in the movie : their plan to get to the place they want to blow up is to look like terrorist and claim they're being singled-out by islamophobic border patrol. The second part of their plan is to get bitten by the vampire in order to be able to blow themselves up over and over again.

Let's be honest... It's not a cinema masterpiece, but it does not deserve a rating of 3 ! My guess is that people had other expectation, such as a serious horror movie or something like that.

But it's not... It's really a buddy cop movie where one of the guy is a vampire. I put a rating of 10 to offset the misinterpretation of that movie, but it's more like a 7 :
  • Lethal Weapon as a rating of 7.6 and it was a big blockbuster
  • The budget was smaller, so it goes with the special effects
  • The acting is top notch : Brad Dourif is amazing as always ! The actors are having fun with the script, no performance seems forced
  • The pacing is ok, the editing is ok
  • Their does not seems to be to many inconsistencies, or they can be excused because the movie is self-aware (such as who's keeping track of the vampire to inform the cop in the beginning of the movie ??)

MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION
nogodnomasters4 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Rip (Brennan Elliott) is a cop who is chasing a demon possessed vampire to the dismay of his wife (Kristi Clainos) and the police department who have different beliefs. Unknown to Rip, our vampire (Michael Bailey Smith) is a member of the CIA and is hunting terrorists in Los Angeles. The vampire hunts the bad guys while toying with Rip. The terrorist have a nuke in LA and plan to use it. They also have a goat head lamp genii to neutralize the vampire.

The film is campy. Rip asks the vampire about his evilness and says, "How do you look at yourself in a mirror?" But clearly the vampire had the best lines as he plays the tough guy, one that loves to take bullets. Rip tries out different types of bullets to kill the vampire. Our vampire chimes: "Isn't silver for werewolves?" or "Now I'm going to smell like garlic while I kick your ..."

After an hour of fun the film settles down into a formula and drops off.

Good film for those who like the "Dylan Dog" type of stuff.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.

First review here ever...
gnuboxer-5921221 November 2020
Seeing the low score I had to write a review. The only way to give this movie less than 7-10 score is if you missed the whole point of it. It's just for fun and you really see how the actors are having fun as well... Don't take it seriously and just enjoy the ride.

Surprize Ending
eelsweisy29 July 2020
I really enjoyed the story. It got me thinking the whole time, Very nice metaphors. I'll try not to spoil. It's amazing how some times we have to make choices for the ones we love. Some hard choices might mean that we can't be with them anymore, even though the lead lost everything and all he wanted back was his love, not being with her might be the only choice to save her, LOVE IT. I also love the surprise the vampire had for him at the end. Very well shot and when edited at the end in the sequence presented as flash back ....... "won't spoil it"

Where is the sequel
staunton-gary10 August 2020
Many sequels have failed, this one, I don't think would have. It's a shame.

This movie is a bit of fun and has some funny one-liners, overall entertaining. No, it's not a belly laugh, some parts are not the best acting effort either. This aside, I would recommend this.

So cool!
rootsandwings-5474514 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Big budget movies should watch this and learn from it! I have two complaints: I didn't care much for the terrorist angle to the story, and second? Please make sequals!

So good to see Brennan Elliott in something Hallmark did not produce. Action, comedy, horror. Well balanced too. The vampire's look is a clear hommage to Nosferatu which is awesome. The dynamic between the characters is explosive. Tough bromance between vampire and pugnacious cop, nicely done!

LOVE IT! So much so that I'm willing to overlook that Brad Dourif looked like he bathed in Cheetos. Can't wait to watch it again. Very entertaining!
