Exclusive: Camila Cabello has found her next major acting gig on the heels of Prime Video’s Cinderella. The Cuban-born pop star has closed a deal to join Jay Will, Mary J. Blige and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Rob Peace — the drama Ejiofor is directing from his own script, as his sophomore feature effort.
The film, currently in production, is based on Jeff Hobbs’ bestselling biography The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League. It follows Robert Peace (Will), a young man who grew up in a crime-ridden section of Newark, NJ and later graduated from Yale with degrees in molecular biophysics and biochemistry earned on scholarship. Peace led a dual life living in the insular world of academia and as a lab researcher of cancer and infectious diseases, while at the same time making six figures from the sale of marijuana.

Danny DeVito is looking toward Broadway — or Off-Broadway — for one of his latest projects.
The actor recently spoke with Vanity Fair about his upcoming staged reading of Theresa Rebeck’s I Need That, which is taking place Aug. 30 as part of the Dorset Theater Festival. The actor, who is currently promoting his latest project Little Demon, an animated series for FX, shared that the show could be headed to a New York theater stage — and soon.
“Lucy and I are going to Vermont in a week to do a workshop of a play we’ve been working on that was written as a three-hander for Lucy and I and another actor,” DeVito told the magazine. “We’re going to do that on Broadway or Off-Broadway, depending on how we situate it, and that’s going to be in a year.”

In our January cover story, the explosively talented, hugely entertaining, always controversial rapper-singer Doja Cat opened up about her new album, Planet Her, balancing a personal life with the demands of superstardom, and what she thinks about people fighting over her rap bona fides (“They don’t know what they’re talking about”). She also touched on more serious issues that have come up throughout her career, including her shitposting tendencies and her longstanding professional relationship with Dr. Luke. Here’s a roundup of the biggest takeaways, plus bonus content...

This year’s nominees for Best Music Video and Best Music Film are an interesting pack to say the least. With the elimination of the nomination committees, the nominations this year truly reflect what recording academy members loved and wanted to honor, but who will they want to honor the most?
SEE2022 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year Best Music Video
At first glance, this award should be an easy win for Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”. The song’s video is easily the most talked about and praised of the year for its bold statement about queerness and religion. The video has also won its fair share of awards already, including three VMAs (among them Video of the Year and Best Direction), the Ama for Favorite Music Video, and the Ema for Best Video. Furthermore, the song itself was a massive hit, finishing at...

As expected, the opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics suffered a huge ratings drop for NBC on Friday to become the least-viewed in the last 30 years, according to preliminary numbers shared.
The four-hour telecast, which began at around 6:55 a.m. Et and was also re-aired in primetime across the country, averaged 17 million viewers. Not only was that 35.8% below the Rio Games in 2016, but it was lower than the 21.6 million that tuned in to watch the 1992 Barcelona Games kick off. That had been the previous low over the last 33 years.
The Rio Games themselves started off with the second-lowest opener this millennium with 26.5 million viewers (and that year was mostly live in the East Coast with Rio in a favorable time zone -- Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of New York).
Of course, these Olympics come with numerous asterisks. For starters, the Games were delayed by a full year due to the still-ongoing Covid-19 pandemic,...

The primetime ratings for the opening ceremony at the Tokyo Olympics aren’t modeling the Games’ time-honored motto. They’re not being delivered faster, and they certainly aren’t stronger or higher.
NBC said today its overall coverage of the opening night ceremonies from Tokyo drew 17 million viewers for its combined broadcast and streaming, based on preliminary figures. The company did not break out broadcast numbers separately. However, other news sources indicated the fast affiliate ratings at 10.4.
While that’s enough to handily win Friday’s summer night, it’s apparently a steep drop from the 2016 opener in Rio.
That memorable gathering (remember Gisele Bündchen’s dancing?) scored 26.5 million total viewers, per Nielsen. That was down a hard 35% from the all-time audience high for the 2012 London games opener, which had 40.7 million viewers. Rio was also the lowest opening night NBC saw since the 2004 Athens games drew 25.4 million.

Barcelona production-distribution outfit Filmax has picked up international rights to director-producer Ibon Cormenzana’s “Guilt” ahead of its presentation at the Pre-Cannes Screenings, which run June 21-25.
The Basque helmer directs his long-time partner Manuela Velles who co-developed the topical drama with him and was actually pregnant at the time of the shoot.
Velles plays a woman who hides away in the mountains after being raped by an acquaintance. In an effort to overcome her trauma, she isolates herself in a mountain cabin, leaving behind a boyfriend, family and friends.
Nature plays a key role in her efforts to heal herself as she bears up under the weight of her pain, her guilt and her loneliness.
“‘Guilt’ is one of the most authentic, visceral films that we’ve had in our catalogue in recent years,” said Iván Díaz, head of international at Filmax.
