Profile of a sect
MiguelAReina29 January 2021
Without the need to create artifice, the history of El Palmar de Troya is so bizarre that you practically only have to let yourself be carried away by it to produce an interesting documentary. Only the secrecy that surrounds this sect can explain why a project of these characteristics has not been tackled so far. Apart from the anecdotes that somehow contain all the elements typical of religious congregations (the vow of poverty is replaced by the accumulation of money; the vow of chastity is replaced by sexual abuse), the series proposes a look at a Spain absorbed by the dictatorship and the cult of power (earthly or supernatural). With a very good structure, there are perhaps some imbalances in the fictional recreations, because in them some stories that are rumors or beliefs are reaffirmed, with which the documentary point of view is lost in favor of an approval of the version of certain interviewed.
