Not for folks who HATE snakes!!

WARNING: Folks deathly afraid of snakes should NOT watch this show!

This episode of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" is set in New Caledonia--specifically in the lagoon by the ports which is pretty uninhabitable for most sea life. However, a few forms of life flourish--such as creatures living under the sand, nautiluses down very deep as well as LOTS of sea snakes. In fact, this part of the world has just about the largest number of species of sea snakes! Cousteau thinks it's because although the water is silted and polluted, the snakes breathe air and so they are not affected. In fact, I was surprised by two things---that the snakes have to breathe so seldom AND that Cousteau's crew is absolutely freaking nuts! This is because they were catching these snakes by hand...and they are among the most poisonous snakes on the planet! It's all interesting but there is a down side--because the water is murky, you can find better documentaries with more vividly colored creatures. Here, they all just looked rather dull....but otherwise an interesting and well made episode.
