The legendary Iggy Pop, who turns 76 today (April 21st), kicked off his spring West Coast US tour at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday night (April 20th).
His all-star backing band for this run includes bassist Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), guitarist/producer Andrew Watt, and guitarist Jamie Hince (The Kills).
The godfather of punk is out in support of his new album, Every Loser, which was produced by Watt and features McKagan and Smith on several tracks. The brief outing continues through an April 29th show in Las Vegas, with tickets available here.
The 12-song set for the tour kickoff included a cover of “Walk on the Wild Side.” While the rendition of the Lou Reed classic slowed things down considerably, Iggy and company rocked it out on solo favorites like “The Passenger” and “Lust for Life,” alongside Every Loser...

But on Friday night, they scaled down drastically at the 1,100-seat Regent Theater in Los Angeles to serve as Iggy Pop’s rhythm section at the launch of his five-show West Coast tour.
The supergroup, which also features guitarists Andrew Watt and Jamie Hince, spent 80 minutes ripping through songs from Iggy’s excellent new LP Every Loser, and classics from his six-decade career,...

Has Jeffrey Wright worked nonstop since he fell in love with acting in college in the late 1980s? It seems like it. From indie hits to blockbusters to weighty TV series to Broadway, the actor, who can next be seen in Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” will justifiably be honored with Variety’s Legend and Groundbreaker award at the Newport Beach Film Festival, which this year runs from Oct. 21-28.
The actor’s early career includes such projects as Lorraine Hans-berry’s “Les Blancs” and Sean O’Casey’s “Juno and the Paycock” at the Arena Theater; “The Playboy of the West Indies” and “Search and Destroy” at Yale Rep; but it was 1993’s “Angels in America: Perestroika” and “Millennium Approaches” that really supercharged his career. He won Tony and Drama Desk awards for “Perestroika.”

Ministry have shared a bruising new cover of the Stooges’ 1973 classic, “Search and Destroy.”
The industrial metal outfit noticeably slow down the song from its frenetic original pace, settling instead into a menacing stomp as Al Jourgensen bellows, “And I’m the world’s forgotten boy/The one who’s searching to destroy.” The cover also arrives with a music video in which Ministry perform the song in a vast desert landscape littered with busted airplane fuselage (Jourgenson gets to fire off some heavy weaponry as well, adding to the...

It is hard to know where to begin and what to say first when it comes to Dennis Hopper, both on screen and off. As an actor he began in the late 50s with small roles in films like Rebel Without A Cause (1955) and numerous TV performances. James Dean was a hero and friend to Hopper. A great way to view Rebel Without A Cause is to watch Hopper’s intense studying of and admiration for Dean on screen in that film. Hopper was witness to so many periods of American culture, a complex masculine figure much like his friend and contemporary Harry Dean Stanton, the whiskey, cigarettes and American highway mythology follows his legacy. This mix scratches the surface of an iconic figure of 20th-century popular culture and a great artist, it is a time capsule with no linear trajectory, bending back and forth across genre and feeling.Coming...
