You Have Been Warned!!!!
atomic_age5729 January 2008
How this abominable piece of garbage even made it to DVD is beyond the scope of my comprehension. What an absolute waste of a $4.23 Blockbuster rental fee! Literally, a bunch of high school kids with a video camera could have done a better job. The film quality, camera work, editing, etc. was simply terrible. The people that appeared in this film were doing something that I can't even call acting....what I can call it is a travesty. And the plot was as thin as the script. The director/producer of this crap should stick with his day job. I would give this zero stars if that were possible, so remember, you have been warned!!!!

Total garbage
escobar08134 March 2008
This has to be the worst garbage I've seen in a while. The "disappeared" as they are known on the Juarez and El Paso border should have made for a good movie. Director James Cahill who also stars in this car wreck gave up a terrible movie. Zero entertainment value in this one. You got the main character "Johnny Cash" (no BS) who is so unbelievable as a hero it's laughable. Then you have this sex cult out in the Mexican desert that is poorly shown. Nothing of interest in this one. This is a cold turd served on a cheap paper plate. The only saving grace of this movie was that it did have an ending. I feel bad for the people that were involved with this one.

Don't let the DVD cover fool you into renting this.

This movie (if you can call it that), was unbelievably BAD!!! and not bad in a good way either. Not even like cult movie bad. I mean, if this movie was up against say...SHOWGIRLS; Elizabeth Berkeley would have an Oscar for best actress by now. The writing was bad, the direction was worse and the acting was appalling; all three of the titles where subsequently lead by James Cahill. He plays a P.I. in this film and he really must think highly of himself because we're suppose to believe that this 5'4" scrawny guy is a real BAD-ASS!!! What a joke, HE SPEAKS WITH A LISP, how bad-ass is that?. And even though the film is suppose to take place in Mexico, it was clearly made in So. California's High Desert. I've never in my life been to Mexico where the residents speak such perfect accent-less English, with American Slang too!!! Even when a character is asked if they speak English, they'd say "A little bit" and then brake out into a full perfect English monologue. The only one in this devastating loss of film with any acting ability and presence was Vivian Gray. The rest of the "actresses" all looked like they were all cast from the same Taco Bell. But hey, if you wanna rent it, it's your call, I've already lost my 5 bucks. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

It was so bad it was funny.
nplomike28 April 2008
Seeing as how real events inspired this movie you shouldn't be laughing all the way through it but we did. The only way I suggest to watch this movie is to get drunk with a bunch of friends first. Then you can have a good old time hee hawing at this sad attempt at movie making. One of the funniest scenes was in the beginning of the movie with a fake kung fu fight. Every punch or flip was done at half speed and so fake it's like they were practicing for the real shoot - which never happened. I don't know what else to say about this so called movie other than if my daughter had done this film in school and turn it in she would have been laughed out of class.

Second worst movie I have ever seen
slitherk2 March 2008
While going through the excruciating process of watching Juarez, I kept trying to figure out if it was supposed to be making fun of something and that I wasn't getting the joke. Because otherwise, I just don't understand how something could be so bad. The acting is awful. The camera work is awful. The fight scenes are ridiculous - do gangs of huge thugs really come at a skinny kid one at a time and give up crying on the floor after they get hit twice? There are absolutely no exterior or interior shots to indicate that one is in Mexico rather than in their neighborhood of any-town USA. And these poor maquiladora women are all 6 foot tall, hot, and dressed to the nines, and, along with all of the the thugs and criminals of Juarez, they speak unaccented English?

funniest movie you will ever see
renteriaroque14 February 2008
i saw this movie titled snitch'd a couple months ago and fell in love. i am proud to say that juarez Mexico is one of the worst movies you will ever see. honestly i was vomitting inside while watching this but dying of laughter. james cahill is one of the most hilarious filmmakers i have ever seen. the actors in this movie should go back to film school (if they even did) and pay attention. just to be honest if you rent this movie you are wasting money but if you rent this movie looking for some good laughs then it's worth it. ps. i just have one question. i didn't know that mexicans from Mexico spoke such perfect English.

What a waste of Time & Money! STAY AWAY!!
josetovar17 February 2008
I must admit that the cover had me fooled. It's eye catching but that's about all that is good about this movie. The acting is terrible and James Cahill is a joke as a director and actor. It's funny to see that everyone in Mexico speaks perfect English and the fact that "Johnny Cash" is a bad ass is even funnier. He manages to beat up guys twice his size and with very little effort. I applaud the fact that he is trying to make a movie based on the events in Juarez but jeez, this P.O.S. film is a joke. I suggest that the actors of this movies do not put this on their resumes, they will be laughed out of town! One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Everyone stay away from this movie, your wasting your time and money!

really awful
sucrern7 February 2008
This movie -i wouldn't call it a film - was terrible in every aspect. Itlooks like it was recorded with a camcorder. The actors - and i use the term loosely- had a hard time acting - and were not at all convincing. The plot was not at all convincing. This was a waste of a rental. Please don't put yourself through the agony of watching this. I suggest renting Bordertown instead or reading Daughters of Juarez - the book is excellent and i would rate it as a 9.5/10. The music is terrible too. The sound effects are very cheesy. The actors that supposedly didn't speak English actually spoke perfect English. The director of this movie should be ashamed. It was almost comical how terrible this movie was. Hope you found this review helpful.

Too Horrible to Be True
emrekr17 February 2008
This is the single worst movie I've ever seen. I don't know how I was able to force myself to watch it in it's entirety, maybe because I paid a few dollars to rent it which I'm guessing was more than the budget to make this shitty excuse for a movie was. I was more shocked to learn that this wasn't his first film, and that his other cinematic failure was equally as horrible based on the review that I read for it. There should be laws against making a film this bad and having it be allowed on a video store shelf. It seemed as though the actors in this film tried to do a horrible job. My words can't do it justice, you would have to see it to believe how bad it was. It looks like a group of people woke up one morning and decided to make a movie and they all did if for their first time in a day. Don't torture yourself, don't see this movie!

Worse than a high school play
sully35611 May 2008
Don't waste your time or money on this one. Horrible writing, acting, directing, shooting, scoring, continuity, etc. A truly huge waste of time and film.

This "movie" (quotes intentional) attempts to explain the tragic and ongoing senseless murders of young women in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico in the most simplistic and insulting terms--obviously little if any meaningful research was done.

Cahill (who definitely shouldn't quit his day job) couldn't even be bothered to film a few shots on location. Instead, the entire fiasco was shot in the California desert. Perhaps someone should have told him that not all deserts look alike, even if sophomoric tripe does.

AWFUL does not even describe how bad it is
pierwolf117 June 2012
This film looks like it was made by high school kids.....yes, it's THAT bad. The lead, who is supposed to be this tough-guy investigator, is laughably effeminate and so soft-spoken, that he does not fit the role AT ALL. Figures, he wrote the script and directed it and probably cast himself.

I gave it a chance though and watched it all the way through. The fight scenes are hysterical. The acting is horrendous all the way around. I can't believe that Eva Longoria acted in one of his other films.

If you are a film student, use this film as a 'what not to do'. The other person who reviewed this film said to get drunk before watching. It's not worth wasting the alcohol.

James Cahill one cool cat
redcup23 November 2008
James Cahill catches a lot of flack over his movies. Being a curious person I rented Juarez Mexcio to see why people have said James Cahill stinks as a director. The DVD cover looked pretty awesome. The movie was better than I had ever expected. James Cahill plays El Paso gumshoe Johnny Cash. His assistant asks his help in finding out what happened to a missing girl that among hundreds reported. James Cahill as a actor isn't bad. What impressed me most was his directing. Juarez Mexico has a much better look than most low budget movies made by independent studios. The camera work was really good. Over looked is how awesome Carmen Perez was as Gloria. She will be a star.

I would suggest to James Cahill if he ever reads these posts is to include some nudity in his future movies. People make fun on late night erotica but those studios understand to compete with million dollar movies they have to give people a little skin. My favorite part of Juarez Mexico was a bar room brawl where Johnny Cash hands out his own brand of justice.

It is worth it to watch
l_elliottsc20 November 2008
You must, I repeat, must see this film. You also must have the correct mindset going in. This film is so bad that it is downright hilarious. I would call this film an "accidental comedy". The star of the film is James Cahill. He also wrote and directed it. You will be overwhelmed by the fact that he is far and away the worst actor in the film. I am not trying to give any other actors credit for being good, but you will understand after seeing it. The fight scenes are priceless. It is only listed as 81 minutes long, though I think it is shorter than that, so it is not a tremendous commitment. Get some friends together and watch and enjoy. Afterward you can all discuss making a movie of your own (and it will probably be better than Juarez!)

In my 'Top 20' worst-ever films!
patherwill19 September 2015
I was really surprised when I saw this rubbish had accumulated the high score of 2.2 because I have been asking sites like Amazon and IMDb to have a 'ZERO' rating because THAT is all THIS deserves. Just when you think you've seen something appalling and it's NOT possible to find ANYTHING worse something somehow always pops up. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING about this movie is c**p.I've seen more professional acting in a 10yrs. old school play.Cahill looks almost like a young David Carradine when he played the part of 'Grasshopper' in the 60's or 70's Karate TV series but isn't as convincing and Carradine was BAD in that! The fight scenes are absolutely terrible, so bad that you can see the 'misses' when they should contact. It's more akin to a SPOOF? When the pistols were fired they sounded like 'cap-guns', there were no attacks on the girls or women in the film - not on screen anyway. The viewer was left in 'limbo' and had to guess what had happened which wasn't difficult as you could see what was going to happen 5 minutes before it did? Many reviewers wrote off a film with I believe Jennifer Lopez on the same subject BUT at least the acting was OK, the storyline and plot was good and believable and interesting and was on a different level to this 'effort' that SHOULD have been canned and NOT finished or released.Anyone associated with this is un- employable!

Worst Ever
klausspiegol28 March 2010
Why waste time? This simply is the worst movie EVER made. Makes Chuck Norris look like Anthony Hopkins. Should be banned from every DVD rental store in the galaxy - and beyond. They should have refunded me my rental cash 10 fold just for sitting through the first 10 minutes which is all I could take. My wife was able to somehow take 15 minutes before she wanted to shotgun the DVD player. I could make movies better with 10 bucks in my pocket and an 8mm movie camera and blindfolded.

My question is, how did they afford the nice DVD cover when the movie costs about 3 bucks to make? Yes, I was sucked in too with that nice looking DVD jacket, but don't be deceived, the word "stinker" can't even come close on how bad this movie is.

The worst is the "choreographed" "action" scenes. Seriously, I think a bunch of 5th graders could have done better

the movie is wrong in so many ways about true crime
mikebourkefan4 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was factually inaccurate about killings that were happening in Juarez Mexico at the time. along with the history being wrong another bad point is the first fight scene. our lead guy throws a punch at random gang member in a bar said strike totally misses yet still gets sold as if it made impact with a comment like "SOB you broke my nose" all while being bloodless action and the gang attacking one at a time each fight last seconds. those negatives said working a fight scene is not easy and these actors may have had a limited time frame to rehearse

James Cahill sucked 81 minutes of my life away!!
iardito12 March 2008
OK, I happen to see this on the video shelf at my local blockbuster and thought this movie look interesting. "Negative" captain!! This movie is really bad, I could not help myself but laugh out loud because of the bad acting. The screenplay was horrible and the fight scenes are way stupid. Felt like I was watching a 70's porn without the T'N'A action or some 8th grader film project. What kind of a name "Johnny Cash" for the main character, stupid!

I'm wondering how James Cahill managed to get funding for this film. How did he manage to get Maverick to distribute this film? Avoid it like the plague!! James Cahill sucked 81 minutes of my life away!

Why don't people blame the distributer ?
royce-cml27 March 2008
This film was shot in 2004, and I thought it had disappeared. But here it is at the very top of my resume. Yeahhh. I'm still baffled by the films that never get seen, and the ones that end up at every store in the country. The DVD business is clearly about boxes, not content.

The version that was sent to master the DVD's available from Maverick looks completely different than the version I have on my bookshelf... shot in 16mm, the movie looks really decent for an under $40,000 film shot in 8 days ( The IMDb budget is now listed as $200,000. I know for a fact it cost under $40,000; it was wrapped and out of the lab for about $27,000, so where'd the other $173,000 get spent ? ).

Anyway, good looking or not, crap is still crap. Not sure how the distributor's deliverables and QC requirements are so insanely weak.. the only thing it had going for it was look and mood, and that is lost in this unwatchable version ( actually 3 solid actresses and a couple character actors are in it; don't mind the script, direction, or lead performance ).

Knowing Cahill as I do, having shot both his features and a short ( the first two with Eva Longoria who amazingly* was not available for this third effort ), I find it amusing if sad that he finally got the thing to the shelf, no doubt at a loss, from the fastest offline he could get his hands on.

What people seem to forget when watching bad entertainment is that some distributors seem to have no criteria for what they will buy. This amazes me. But it also points to the folly of no-budget producers who get excited by potential interest for direct to video projects.

There's nothing to get excited about.

Anyway, I have it on good authority that Cahill appears in 3 more features he co-produced... all on smaller budgets.... look forward to them from Dale Stelly.

I don't know where to start!
rgandgg1 February 2008
I picked up this movie cause the cover looked interesting. Boy, was I wrong! This movie was terrible! The main thing that I had a problem with was that the lead actor, James Cahill, is barely 5 foot tall and maybe weighs 90 pounds, but some how manages to kicks everyone's ass? Helllllllo? I guess when you write and direct it yourself you can do that. The writing is BAD! The direction is nowhere to be found. The editing seemed to have been done by a 5th grader. I enjoyed the grave digging guy, Roberto Sanchez. Carmen Perez looks good but barely speaks in this thing. The only other film that I've seen that is worse than this one is "Snitch'd" Oh wait, that was also directed and written by Mr. Cahill. Well, at least he's consistent. I strongly recommend NOT seeing this film.

Mr. Cahill is no Mr. Chapa
tedthumb20 September 2008
Juarez, Mexico is one of those rare movies that stinks in every way possible. The best I can say about this movie was it had a sharp box cover. After reading other viewers comments I hate to kick actor/writer/director/producer James Cahill while he's down. If there was anything good to say about Juarez, Mexico I would try. There just isn't. I did not have the same problem as many reviewers did with how the movie looked. After all you can't expect to get kobe beef at Arbys. It looked fine to me. Who cares it was shot in the California desert instead of Mexico? Hollywood does that all the time.

The story tore it down on my ratings. Like that song UNBELIEVABLE! This movie was unbelievable. For starters Mr. Cahill miscast himself as a lead action hero heartthrob by the name of Johnny Cash. I think that name was used before. Action parts were more unbelievable. I laughed when Johnny Cash walked in a bar then proceeded to beat up a group of muscled tough guys. It was comical. Put that part on You Tube to win a comedy award. I swear one tough guy stuck his chin out waiting for Mr. Cahill to tee off on him.

Mr. Cahill should study how Mr. Damian Chapa makes movies. Chapa is a actor/writer/ director/producer.

get out of here
cuevasf7116 February 2009
Only cool thing was the title. I am disappointed that James Cahill mailed this movie in. This writer and director takes a lot of BS from people about his movies. I watched Snitched and thought it was alright. He isn't spoon fed with million dollar budgets. I respect on that note. Reason I'm putting Juarez Mexico on blast is he stepped out of what I expect to see. Gangster movies. Jennifer Lopez in Bordertown could not get this story to work. I have all the confidence in the world James Cahill will come back with a gangster movie. Never forget Eva Longoria Parker got her start in one of his movies. Juarez Mexico unfortunately should have not been made.

Juarez Mexico has problems
tomasdiaz9 August 2008
Juarez, Mexico is one of those films that can be easily trashed. It's like fighting a boxer with no arms. How hard can it be to tee off? There is no mistake that this film is bad on many levels. To make this more challenging I'll attempt to comment on it's good point. Juarez, Mexico is an extremely interesting premise for a film since it is based on a true story. Many young women disappear around Juarez. It's a story that has been covered by the news. Writer and Director and Star James Cahill was smart to try to tell the story.

Many reviewers are extremely critical of indy films made for little money for some reason. If the expectation is to get a film made for peanuts to be like a 100 million dollar blockbuster then you will be greatly disappointed. I know the steak at Sizzler won't taste like the one at Mortons. When I rented Juarez, Mexico I was taken in by the box cover and what was written on the back. Looked and sounded like a good watch.

What fell flat was the action. James Cahill casting himself as a martial arts action star hurt the film. The fight sequences were completely unbelievable all around. In films viewers will suspend reality because they know it's only entertainment. How believable are any of the Die Hard or Mission Impossible films? What makes Juarez, Mexico outlandishly unbelievable is the silly way the fights happen in very real settings. Most of us have seen bar fights between people or been in them. In this film bad looking guys with muscles basically stick there chins out for James Cahill to tee off on. Total nonsense.

I did not find the production quality bad for a no budget indy film. It was more than acceptable to me. What I did find bad was James Cahill as Johnny Cash crime fighter. This could have been better if he stayed behind the camera.
