A difficult birth
This documentary relates how the European Union could be created. It starts after the European Coal and Steel Community was funded and shows how the 6 (France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg) manages, after many pitfalls and negotiation, to reach an agreement and signs the Rome treaty, sanctioned by the creation of the European Economic Community, a customs union and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom).
It reminds mainly how difficult that birth was, with each country playing its card, change of government and international context. We also see that, already at that time, experts had to be sidelined to be able to finalize an acceptable and not too complex proposal. Last but not least, it makes us follow the 'founders' and recall what their dreams for Europe were.
