One doesn't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure who's behind what in this case, although some might find these twists interesting. In a nutshell, a sheriff in a small town is gunned down in front of hundreds at a pre-election picnic. There are two other people involved. One is no surprise: a drug dealer who has a running battle with the sheriff for years. The other may surprise some viewers but if you listen carefully, it shouldn't be a shock.....although it sure was to the poor folks of Somerset, Ky.
Whereas in the past in the dry county of Pulaski, bootleggers were the problem for many years, now it's drugs. The sheriff's father was assassinated because of his relentless pursuit of moonshiners and now his son is a similar victim. One really feels for the poor wife and mother of these two men. She is interviewed here a few times and holds up well, but your heart goes out to her.
The story involves greed, ambition, revenge, drugs and politics - a lethal combination. The drugs are a variety, but it's the prescription pain pills that hook the guy who winds up doing the killing. Actually, there are four main people in this crime. The three criminals are all pictured to be stupid. That is repeated over and over. Even the defense lawyer of the drug dealer pleads this, saying his client was dumb to "mastermind" this whole thing. The problem was nobody was a mastermind. This case didn't take long to solve.
Meanwhile, we learn that Somerset in the "Houseboat capital of the United States" and that it has "Bible thumpers," a very negative term used by those who detest anyone who reads and believes in the Bible, certainly not like the "progressive" people who write, narrate or are interviewed like a defense attorney in this episode of "City Confidential." a woman who thinks that kind of thing is "backward."
Besides that attorney with the elitist attitude, the other person who comes off as really dumb in the mayor of the town! He may not be, but he sounds like Huckleberry Hound.
