Amazing shots ruined by drama
mandamecham10 May 2021
This documentary got some incredible shots of animals in Yellowstone. However, it felt like someone on the team had just discovered the slow-mo button for the first time and was super excited about it 🙄 By 20 minutes in, I was getting so annoyed. There are only so many times you can show droplets of water in slow-mo and have it be cool fellas. Lay off the slow-mo so that is actually has the intended effect when you use it. Also, the narrators voice was overly dramatic. Overall I'd still watch it for the awesome shots they were able to get, but go in knowing it's overly dramatic.

Gorgeous cinematography.

"Wild Yellowstone" is a two-part documentary about the wildlife in Yellowstone National Park....the animals not plants nor the geography. Part one focuses on the winter in Yellowstone and part two on the summer.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series...mostly because the cinematography was lovely. Some of this was obviously done with a drone and it was lovely as well. My only reservation is that the narration was occasionally poorly written and the narrator himself had a raspy, quiet voice that means turning up your TV volume. Otherwise, enjoyable and very well made.

second better

I have already written a review for the Frozen Frontier episode. I'm guessing that Nat Geo intended that to be an one-off TV movie before filming the second episode, Grizzly Summer. The slow motion is still there but at least, the speeding up is no longer. It's a less annoying visual effect. It's still a waste of time watching slow motion water droplets. Slow motion is useful for fast moving creatures or actions. It's an improvement. It's not trying to be modern flashiness. This standard works for good reasons and it would be good to stay with this style.

Revolting script and narration

Terribly anthropomorphic and overly dramatic approach. Reminds me of the part in Alice's restaurant where he says "I want to kill. I want to eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill kill" But some great action shots, scenery and photography.
