So.... Professor finally confronts Artist Lady and that mystery sort of clears itself up.

She's weird. He's Weird. Sinner is weird.

Haha so the Professor and Sinner play a little game of Let's take turns burying each other.

Sinner goes first!! I like it. 7/10.

Fine line
gelasma-127 July 2022
The whole series is based on the Ambrose character being both a cop and a man who can feel a form of empathy for the killers, who can relate to them, establish a connection with them. But he has also to act like a cop, if he doesn't, something's missing. So it's always a very fine line between the two sides of the character, one cannot take over completely the other, or the series loses its balance. And I agree with most comments, in this episode, the empathy goes a step too far (final scene) and it feels like the cop has vanished in front of a character recognized as still dangerous.

Absolutely ridiculous!
leethomas7424 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why oh why did the producers of this not check the previous days recordings and say to themselves"this is preposterous "? It's become such a ridiculous story whereby you have a man who has confessed to the lead detective, plus his wife that he has killed 2 people, yet he's free to keep teaching students and roam around as free as a bird! Inescapably the detective then allows said double murdered to bury him alive so he can "touch the void". I wish I had touched the avoid button on Netflix and skipped straight past this whopper!

People are wrong
chrischanwasframed27 July 2022
People are wrong when they say Season 3 is bad. I think it is actually the most interesting season. It definitely has it's flaws, but it is by far the one that takes the biggest risks. \I also like how they incorporate philosophy. It deals with mental health and depression really well. If you want something nice to watch as a family, then it is clearly not meant for that, but if you are awake late on your own wondering what life is all about, then it is great. Matt Bomer is a great actor and he does a great job as this character, his interactions with the detective are great. There are some things that I thought were a bit questionable, but I'm willing to forgive that because I find it interesting. I can see why people like the first season a lot, I haven't seen the forth yet. I liked parts of the 2nd season, but found the kid really annoying. This third season has been the most entertaining to me so far. This is a good show, I hope they keep making it.

Horrible
berry-darren19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Utterly the most terrible episode of any horrible season of any promising series with respectable actors EVER. A written confession in hand, a cop crawls into a grave and allows himself to be buried alive. Just dumb. Everything before and after this episode is tainted by the stupidity of this single awful showing.

I personally like this season so far
gerviospades30 May 2021
I just happened to check out the show's IMDB page after watching this episode and was surprised by all the negative reviews. It seems the plot and actions of the main characters were considered unrealistic/stupid, but I think the show so far has very clearly established that this Detective is far from a conventional, by-the-books type of guy. Despite his questionable decisions, I thought that from an emotional standpoint, his actions are quite believable and consistent with his character.

Fingers crossed for the last two episodes.

Soooooooo disappointing!
alexandracosgrove8 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I thought season 1 was brilliant, season 2 was also pretty good but season 3 is a major disappointment. The burial scene ruined it completely. I mean seriously??? A detective agrees to being buried alive by a murderer on the promise that if he dies the police will dig him up with a written confession on his person. What about if the killer digs him up a week later when Ambrose is dead, burns the confession himself and re buries him! Harry Ambrose also seems pretty pathetic in this season.

Absolute rubbish

Warning: Spoilers
This show has gone way down hill. I am totally disengaged. I was bored halfway through the episode and willing it to end. I thought I was going to finish the season this evening, but I don't think I can bring myself to watch another episode after this utter nonsense.

The scene at Sonya's house is beyond ridiculous. Detective at the community event just leaves Jamie to smash up the hallway - uhuh! And the end scene: Detective is given a signed confession and then willingly gets buried alive, even though there isn't a weapon in sight. How did he even get in the hole with his bad back? It's so bad it's made me angry.

Also, why bother having different actors playing their younger adult selves? Jamie's younger self looks almost the same age as the lead actor!

Intense and thrilling
ericsdesmond30 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think some of the bad reviews come from people who don't understand the thought processes of conflicted, traumatized personalities...There is a lot of philosophy and a lot of self-seeking involved... The detective and the teacher connect at some level and I understood/felt their bond and their angst. Harry is not your usual detective. He's deeply troubled and therefore the decision of doing what he did is not that surprising. He did have to gain Jaimie's trust. The paper could've been zero if Jamie decided to deny writing it or to say that he wrote it under duress. Harry wanted to establish a bond and eventually record a confession. But Beyond Harry's rational decision of doing all in his power to forge /fake a connexion in order to squeeze a confession, a true bond exists between the two regardless of them being on opposite sides of the law.

Give me a break.

We watched this at home. I thought my wife liked it. She thought I liked it. We need to communicate better. We both thought it so unbelievable. Cops are not this dumb.

So addictive! Seeps into ua mind like a poison
sanjutarak19 May 2021
I have just been six episodes into the latest season of The Sinner. Oh my god! This is incredible stuff, and dark too. In fact, the darkest I've seen in the recent times. It makes you question your existence, question God and the whole world. I am so drawn to the lines they use in the series. DEEP DOWN,WE ARE ALL SCARED. BUT WE WOULDN'T WANT TO SHOW IT. WE'D RATHER BE ANGRY. That, when felt better, holds infinite meaning in it. It was like a vague psyche game.

I've watched the last two seasons too. They were unfathomable too,but the latest one beats em by a long stretch. I am seeing mediocre reviews for season-3. May be, this one appeals better to people with conflicting personalities. I wouldn't say I am like that, but I just dwell and put myself in the character's place momentarily and it all makes sense. I've just completed sixth episode which ended with one of the terrifying scenes I have ever seen. Hope you like it too.

Not sure which is more far fetched- the cop or the nihilist
keelygirl210 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So sorry I invested time getting to this point. I worked at a police station - there's no cop that would ever do anything even close to this. Like ever, under any circumstance. So far fetched as to be laughable.

Harry Is an Idiot
Hitchcoc12 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In three of the seasons, Harry is nutty, but he is at least reasonable. The shows were entertaining. In this one he is a bonafide nut. The fact that that jerk is able to continue to teach in that school. One outburst should have had the police in there. Harry knows he is a murderer and still tries to reason with him, putting everyone in danger, including his wife and child. But the final scene of this episode is so beyond belief as to be sickening. He goes into that grave? Really? At this point I can't imagine anyone explaining this to me in an adequate way; to have it make any real sense. We get lots of flashback scenes as those two worthless characters spar. Enough.

Not a spoiler, a warning
haveanothertwo29 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As the season progressed, what I increasingly feared would happen eventually did. What the hell? How galactically dumb. Ambrose and the show Olympic-vaulted the magalodon. Nothing that follows can be taken seriously.

We're now at least three episodes past when Ambrose should have followed the simplest path and taken care of an increasingly unstable (and so so so guilty) Jamie. And not just Ambrose, but basically anyone anywhere in Jamie's orbit

The first two seasons were quality low burn detective procedural TV. This third one has been stretched and diluted into pablum. I want all my six hours back.

This is becoming painful to watch this season
dominicmoyse-3044223 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe Harry would be that stupid. I think this season has been really poor compared to the first two seasons and this episode just sank to a new low. It annoys me how he can kill someone and then he can carry on roaming around as free as a bird, whilst our main man apologises to him for being aggressive when he came to his home. I've just looked up at my tv screen and they are now hugging in the next episode. I can't wait for this agony to be over, as it looks like it picks up again in the fourth season.

It's a shame as I've really enjoyed this series on the whole.

Just a shame this season was the usual 8 episodes and not just 1 or 2 at the most!

More ugh
samcallan19 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Holy cow!

The characters keep doing the stupidest things.

Really Sonya? Really, you are scared of this guy but instead of calling the cops you take porn shots of him?

The only thing that keeps me watching is my obsession with finishing series that I start. This season might drive me to seek professional help for this condition.

I can accept a certain level of "that could not happen in real life" in a show, but there is a limit there as well.

The school situation is even dumber. They would have made it much clearer that he was not to return to the school and not leave it to an email.

I had a root canal that was less excruciating than this season as been.
