Julies

This is a gripping episode where anyone named Julie Teeger is in deep trouble unfortunately. Why? Monk has to get to the bottom of it in this tense episode where we're wondering what the solution is.

All credit to the writers for coming up with these mind-bending stories. How do they do it?

Stottlemeyer's Car
Hitchcoc11 April 2020
OK. We have some subplots. First of all., it's that depressing deterioration of his brand new car, thanks to Natalie. Then we have the Julie thing. Someone wants to kill all the Julie Teegers. Then introduce Norman Bates and his house filled with stuffed animals--and, of course, Mom. Well, not Norman exactly. There is a plethora of red herrings presented here. Julie is absolutely ridiculous as she puts getting her driver's license ahead of her own safety. I have to say that all the murder and mayhem aside, I felt the most for Leland's car and what Natalie dd to it. Thing of the resale loss!

Clever & hilarious

Somebody is killing off all the Julie Teeger's in town. Is Natalie's daughter next? Can Monk find the killer before the killer possibly strikes again?

Disher goes undercover in drag in this one. Will he fowl it up? Can he remember his code?

In her haste to protect her daughter, Natalie takes the Captains car several times to arrive at a new crime scene, damaging the car a little more each time.

Suspenseful & hilarious. That's what this show does best. One of my favorite Monk episodes.

I cut across the creek to watch this
dmcreif15 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The producers of 'Monk' have really gone in with a bang and produced this awesome episode. How would you react when you find that someone is killing women with the same name as your daughter? Watch the episode and you'll find out. Natalie is immediately terrified to find a serial killer stalking women with the name "Julie Teeger." However, is her own daughter at risk? The episode perfectly blends humor with investigation, and the scenes themselves were done flawlessly.

Cons:

1. The writers should have issued Stottlemeyer another car while his was in the shop. No offense, but this is how it would really happen.

Pros: The episode has a lot of excellent humor and every scene inserts it very cleverly:

1. Monk picks up some underwear, and he mistakes it for a VERY big handkerchief! His reaction is just priceless!

2. Natalie impulsively "borrows" Stottlemeyer's new Dodge Charger.

3. Stottlemeyer examines his car, which has had its hood heavily crumpled. He asks Natalie for an explanation, and she says "I took a shortcut. I cut across the creek." He says that there's no bridge across the creek. She replies "I know." Stottlemeyer is still very confused, and still reminding her that there is no bridge across the creek.

4. After Julie misses a stop sign, her driving teacher says "I can understand it. They hid it so cleverly... on top of that big post."

5. Julie is exasperated when three police cars block her in after she starts a three point turn without using her blinker. She is more confused as Natalie gets out of one car and quickly puts Julie in the back of the patrol car.

6. Monk's discovery of the dead body of Matthew's mother is a really clever spoof of Psycho. His "Are you dead?" line is just funny.

7. Randy dresses in drag to pose as the dead mother, and he complains about his bra itching. His entire discussion over his wire about what phrase to use if he's in trouble really cracks me up: "I wish there were ten of them." This episode promises many returns.

The case of the three Julies
TheLittleSongbird8 September 2017
'Monk' has always been one of my most watched shows when needing comfort, to relax after a hard day, a good laugh or a way to spend a lazy weekend.

Of Season 6, "Mr Monk and the Three Julies" is one of the highlights. One of my favourite 'Monk' episodes too. The mystery, with somewhat of a 'Psycho' influence, is one of the season's best, and one of the best of the show in a while with a particularly twisted motive. It is constantly engaging and at times suspenseful, one really roots for Julie not to be harmed and Natalie's concern and panic come over genuinely on screen and very understandable to anybody regardless if you're a mother or not.

The episode has a suspenseful tone but it is also one of the funniest 'Monk' episodes. Disher in drag (everything about it from the bra to the wire), the "I wish there were ten of them" line, Stottlemeyer's disbelief at the state at his car and asks for an explanation that he is not convinced by, the exchange talking about the Terminator, Monk and the underwear and Monk's exchange with Kroger about the stuffed body and never doing it himself are the highlights. Julie is developed nicely here too and the interaction and development of the four leading characters are a huge part of the charm as ever.

One of the best things about 'Monk' has always been the acting of Tony Shalhoub in the title role. It was essential for him to work and be the glue of the show, and Shalhoub not only is that but also at his very best he IS the show. Have always loved the balance of the humour, which is often hilarious, and pathos, which is sincere and touching. Everybody else supports him very well.

As Natalie Traylor Howard is sassy and sympathetic, as well as convincing in Natalie's concern and panic. Jason Gray-Stanford and Ted Levine are about equal in how truly funny they are here. Emmy Clarke is very charming as Julie.

Writing is tight and thought-provoking with some knowing wry humour and poignantly tender easy-to-relate-to drama and quirkiness.

The music is both understated and quirky. While there is a preference for the theme music for Season 1, Randy Newman's "It's a Jungle Out There" has grown on me overtime, found it annoying at first but appreciate its meaning and what it's trying to say much more now. The episode as always look slick and stylish.

Altogether, one of Season 6's best. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Another possible goof.

Great episode. Love Monk. Sad that it ended. Oh well. I noticed something in this episode that has to do with the "continuity of character's attitudes." After the second Julie Teeger is murdered and the suspicion is that someone is killing people with that name, Monk believes a hit man was paid to kill Julie Teeger. But, according to him, the killer doesn't know what she looks like and has to kill all the Julie Teegers. Captain Stottlemeyer strongly disagrees with this theory because the MO's are so different. However in "Mr. Monk And The 12th Man" from Season 2, something very similar happens to a set of jurors. It just goes to show that the captain somehow doesn't remember that case and the show goes on as if that never happened.

Horrible.

Horrible.

Usually Monk stories have more to do with reality then simply putting the actors in recognizable costumes, giving them a recognizable language. Monk writers usually create their own scenes and characters without lamely ripping them off from Hitchcock.

This episode is so haphazardly written -with nothing remotely possible- that I could not suspend my belief.

Too many gimmicks
peacefrog-3582219 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Natalie always drives Monk around in her own car. So why would she need to drive anyone else's car? Stupid gimmick. They get old after enough episodes. The show was way better with Sharona.
