Sex & Nudity

  • Two men in jockey shorts are in their bedroom. As one reclines, the other lays on top and kisses him gently. Nudity only involves one man's bare chest. Also, two gay men share a motel room; in the room next door, sounds of moaning and rhythmic thumping are heard through the wall.
  • Young man lays on top of a young woman on a bed fully clothed as they are kissing. He begins unbuttoning her sweater but asks her what's wrong. She says she's a virgin and he backs off, saying they should take it slow. Later, it's revealed he's actually gay, passing as heteosexual. No nudity.
  • An 18-year-old male tries to come on to a mid-40s man. Young man offers him a blow job, touches his knee but is swiftly rebuffed.
  • In a flashback, two young men in only jockey shorts are laying on the young man's bed kissing when one's father walks up to the open bedroom door. He then wordlessly turns away. Later, he forbids him from seeing that boy ever and viciously scolds him, using derogatory terms for being gay.

Violence & Gore

  • Two middle aged men get into a fight that draws no visible injury until one man punches the other in the face.

Profanity

  • About 15 F-words with milder obscenities, i.e. shit, ass, etc.
  • Scattered discriminatory terms, all of which targeted at homosexuals (fag, faggot).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man is said to have been sober for an unspecified amount of time. The quantity of alcohol that he consumes increases throughout the film.
  • An 18-year-old girl drinks a unknown amount of vodka. She throws up in the toilet and has a hangover the next morning.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The first half of the film is comedic, while the second half veers into dramatic territory, with various tense scenes involving the view of homosexuality in the 1940s-70s.

  • In a flashback to the early 40s, two teenage boys have a sexual relationship and, following one's father stating it is ungodly and a sin, and that he'll kill them both if he finds them together again, one boy commits suicide by drowning.

  • A teenage boy commits suicide by drowning, a decision spurred by his love interest rejecting him in fear of God's wrath.
