I have played Final Fantasy 4 on the SNES and it was alot more fun, you could use the weapon, shield duplicate trick in battle and sell the weapon to make easy money, sadly that cheat has been removed, also you can no longer level grind Cecils level and expect Rosa, Kain, Rydia to level up with you, you have to level them up individually including Edge. This game has many changes that I will go over.
Good things in this RPG game
First of there's CGI motion capture scenes similar to Final Fantasy 3 DS remake. There's now voice acting cutscenes, everything is in 3D. Cecil now has the Darkness augment ability. You have Cecil explore the maps until it has a 100 percent completion and you're rewarded with items. You can now give party members Augment abilities. The story is pretty much the same as the Super Nintendo, Playstation 1, Gameboy Advance version, there are a few extra cutscenes in the Giant of Babil with Cecils childhood memory.
I liked that the Delta Sister Battle in the Tower of Zot that revives over and over in this game allows you to quickly level up Cecil and get a lot of Gil in this game which is badly needed.
The Elixir items are the best because they can kill Dr. Lugae in 2 uses. They can also kill Lunasaur in 5 uses.
Edge can steal Gaia Hammers from Steel Golems and sell them for 6000 gil and he can steal Artemis Arrow from Moonmaidens and sell for 10,000 gil. I also like the Headband helmets since it protects party members from confused spells.
I liked Rosas wall spell which can reflect the spell 9th dimension on Trap Door and kill him every time. Rydias Summons including Bahamut and Leviathan were awesome summons to use in the game. I also like Spider Silk item and Rosa's Slow spell especially on boss battles.
When you win the game a New game plus appears but you lose almost everything including levels but you keep your augment items and abilities you've given your party members.
Salve and Item Lore make a best Augment combo for items and so does Draw and Counter and Kick on Cecil which makes him a powerhouse. HP 50 percent is very helpful as it keeps a character alive. Gil Farmer and Level Lust make level grinding and money grinding less tedious.
Bad things about this RPG game
I didn't like that they made the monsters in turn based battles very hard, I find it a pain in the butt to have to cure my party every random battle. There's too much level grinding and money grinding, items are very expensive including Elixirs, Fuma Stars and other items. The boss battles are harder than ever which sucks big time.
The Beam attack, fire and ice attack by dragons is very damaging in the game. Good luck surviving in this difficult RPG game, cause it's like The 7th Saga SNES game. Also Rydias Meteor level requirement is now level 80 instead of level 60, really Square Enix? The stone blade is very hard item to win in battle. Also the Pink tail's still hard to obtain which I never bother with. The CPU and the Attacker, Defender in Giant of Babil no longer gives you experience like in the SNES, PS1 version which sucks.
The Troia bar pass is 100,000 gil instead of 10,000 gil makes it hard to get Gil Farmer. Also Edge can have up to a 39 percent chance to steal items from enemies which the "Couldn't Steal" message appears often making it annoying.
You can no longer change names with Namingway like you can in the SNES, PS1, Gameboy Advance though it doesn't even affect gameplay.
Best and worst characters in this game
My best characters: Cecil because he has high strength and you can use draw and counter augment to attack enemies, Kain because of his high strength and jump attack, Edge because of his steal ability to steal useful items to sell. I also liked the shrunken and fuma stars, knife which Edge can throw and damage enemies, I liked his mirage spell and smoke spell. I also liked Yang and his kick attack though he leaves your party, I liked Cid's hammer attack.
I liked Rydia and her black magic spells including Break, Stop, Osmose, toad, Bio, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Quake, Flare, Meteor attack spells. Rydias summons including Bahamut and Leviathan. Rosa is somewhat okay but her spells including Cure, life, Esuna, Holy, Slow, Float, Haste, Blink, Berserk, Protect, Shell, Teleport are very useful in battle. Fusoya was an okay character with white magic and black magic though his HPs never leveled up.
My worst characters: Palom due to low HPs and weak attack but has very good attack spells, Porom due to low HPs and weak attack. Tellah has low HPs and weak attack but powerful black magic spells.
But my least favorite of them all is the infamous Edward a Spoony Bard who has low HPs and very weak attacks he doesn't auto hide thankfully but he still sucks. I did however like his Augments Salve and Item Lore when combined make items heal party members more.
I didn't like the Child Rydia who started out so weak but later becomes a strong Rydia I like. I don't like some of the spells Rydia and Rosa has including Confuse, Hold, Silence, Death, Venom, Tornado, Sleep since they don't work at all and I never use them.

I like many of the summons Rydia uses in the game including Chocobo, Ifrit, Mist Dragon, Ramuh, Shiva, Titan, Slyph to absorb HPs to my party members and my best ones ever are Leviathan, and Bahamut they do more damage just like Meteor.
I did not like some of the summons that Rydia had including Whyt in DS version and his mini games sucked, Thank God he doesn't appear in the Android, iOS and Steam versions, I also didn't like Asura, an unreliable summoner that randomly casts Cure, protect and life which I cannot choose so I gave up on her, my least favorite of all is Odin a curse summon in every Final Fantasy game who sucks, He doesn't even damage enemies at all but fails to slice them most of the time.
Overall this is an improved remake of Final Fantasy 4 though there's mild swearing including Damn and Hell and sexy woman in bikini costumes and the usual fighting violence. Only get this game on DS, Android, iOS, Steam if you're up to the challenge of the level grinding money grinding torture you have to endure. I was disappointed with the ending music that it looped rather then end on a note like the SNES game did.
