This ABC TV special, hosted by Fernando Lamas, featured youthful performers like Paul Anka, Bob Fosse, Barrie Chase and the improvisation theatre troupe The Premise Players. The highpoint of the show was Mr. Fosse and Miss Chase doing a sizzling calypso number to Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg's song, "I Don't Think I'll End It All Today."
This musical revue, tape recorded in New York, was supposed to be the first of four Timex specials for the 1961-1962 TV season, but ultimately only one other special was aired--Yves Montand on Broadway (1961).
The funny and touching "Auditioner" number, about a young girl dancing her heart out for an unseen Broadway director, was conceived and staged by Bob Fosse 14 years before "A Chorus Line".
Although it had nothing to do with the theme of the show, one of the highlights of the hour was the Premise Players' spoof of David Susskind's contentious TV interview with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev.
