It's never happened to her before. Though once in Phir Hera Pheri, her voice had been dubbed without her permission and she was understandably upset, in her new release Aakrosh, Bipasha Basu's role has been cut substantially. And Bipsha is not sulking! In fact she seems quite happy to be in the shadows. Chuckles the actress, "I knew from the start that my role was comparatively small. But I wanted to be part of this film because I believed in it. When I saw the complete film for the first time with my family and friends earlier this week, I realized my role had been edited out even more. Now I'm hardly there. Important things that I had shot have been removed." Naturally Bipasha's family and friends were disappointed. Says the actress, "I quickly took charge of the situation in the theatre and told them to watch Aakrosh as an Ajay Devgn film.

It's not often one finds photographs of Parsis on display in the heart of Paris. But that is just what strollers along the Seine can find this fall. The photographs, by Sooni Taraporevala, are part of the Quai Branly museum's biannual exhibition Photoquai. It is free and open to the public 24/7 through November 22. Best known as a talented screen writer who has worked closely with film maker Mira Nair on such movies as Salaam Bombay! and The Namesake, Taraporevala was in Paris last week for the exhibition and for a double screening of her newly released feature film Little Zizou. Like her photographs, Little Zizou is a loving portrait of the Parsi community to which Ms. Taraporevala belongs. How does a filmmaker celebrate the release of her first film? Noted screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala, making her debut as a director with Little Zizou goes from one theatre to another checking the projection. No she's isn't being finicky! Just that her film is shot in an aspect ration (1:85) that isn't easily supported by Indian projectors; quite often resulting in distorted images and missing subtitles. While Sooni was about to leave PVR Phoenix in Lower Parel for Sterling in old Bombay, Bikas Mishra had a brief chat with the witty and charming director:...

As ‘Little Zizou’ unfolds, one gets to see a world as seen by the 11 year old protagonist – Xerxes (Jahan Bativala) – a boy who just loves his football and looks forward to meet his icon Zinedane Zidane – on whose name he got his nickname – Zizou.
A motherless child born Zizou is brought up in a typical Parsi surrounding. He is the son of Cyrus II Khodaiji (Sohrab Ardeshir) an extremist who proclaims to be a spiritual healer thereby misleading the Parsi community for his own sake.
Through the portrayal Cyrus II Khodaiji (Sohrab Ardeshir) and Boman Presswala (Boman Irani) of fundamental and liberal Parsis, Sooni Taraporevala, who makes her directorial debut with the flick, is successful in highlighting a long drawn dispute among the Parisis.
However, the film does not dwell much upon the origin of Parsis except for the fact that Parsis came to India when Persia was attacked by the Arabs.

I can’t remember which wise man said that if you want to reflect on the affairs of the world, look at your own backyard and that’s what Sooni Taraporevala does. And the result is a magnificent comic satire with an earthly charm and a humane touch. It’s not easy to make people laugh, especially when you’re dealing with a theme such as rising religious intolerance. However, noted screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala (Salaam Bombay, Misisippi Masala, The Namesake) finds a way to achieve the unattainable with her perceptive observation, imagination and gift of storytelling.
