The camera never blinks
sol-kay12 July 2010
(Some Spoilers) It's when freelance photographer Mike Kovac, Charles Bronson, gets an emergency phone call from Lisbon Portugal from his good friend and fellow WWII combat photographer Terry Ross, Norman Alden, that he knows deep in his gut that things aren't quite right! It's just then that someone broke into Terry's hotel-room at the Lisboa Hotel and blew Terry away!

Terry was about to explain to Mike about some very explosive negatives he was about to send to him that would expose a major industrial spy ring working of of Lisbon that he had infiltrated. Getting on the first plane to Lisbon Mike checks with the local police on the statutes of Terry and find out her was murdered less then 24 hours ago! It's outside the police station that Mike runs into Al Alviella, Mario Alcalde, who claims to know what happened to Terry and who was behind his murder; The guy known as "The Man", Frank DeKova, who's the biggest crime boss in town.

Not at first believing that Terry would be working for a hoodlum like "The Man" Mike later runs into Terry's wife of less then two weeks Rena, Chana Eden, who tells him that her late husband was in fact trying to get the goods on "The Man" and his organization but was discovered by one of his hoods who ended up whacking Terry before he could, with the incriminating negatives, make them public! It's later when Alviella presented Mike with evidence on Terry's involvement with "The Man" in a number of secret bank accounts that he has that Mike started to wonder if the Terry he knew all these years was the Terry that was a part of "The Man's" criminal organization!

***SPOILERS***As things turned Terry was careless but not stupid and documented all his evidence on "The Man", who in fact turned out to be someone else, by secretly photographing it! Including his own murder with a hidden camera planted in the wall in his hotel room! It's when Mike developed the murder photo that he realized that his as well as Rena's life was in danger in "The Man" being right there in the dark room when he developed it!

Not much local color

This tale of international intrigue is set in motion by the death of Chuck's old war buddy Terry (played by Norman Alden in a brief role), who were combat photographers during WW II. He has left for Chuck negatives implicating an industrial espionage crime ring headquartered in Lisbon, where our hero visits to get to the bottom of the matter.

Authorities there are confident that Terry was in fact working for the criminals rather than trying to expose them, and now Chuck has to clear his friend's name, with the help of Terry's widow Chana Eden (a TV actress whose career highlight was her femme lead role debut in the feature "Wind Across the Everglades").

A very fine performance here is delivered by Mario Alcalde, as the smoothie villain who manages to fool Chuck for most of the show, until our hero discovers Terry's hidden camera and the negatives which implicate Mario and clear Terry.

As always, Chuck's earnest performance carries the show, with very little to no local atmosphere developed (a brief nightclub scene) to indicate we're in Lisbon.

Getting To The Truth In Lisbon
ccthemovieman-14 November 2011
An old war buddy photography who is living is Libson contacts "Mike Kovac" (Charles Bronson) and informs him he has some very valuable photographs he is sending to him in New York. Moments later, he is killed.

Mike then makes to trip over to Lisbon to investigate the death of his friend and find out the story behind the mysterious photographs.

The story, quite honestly, is not one of the more intense ones in this series and only picks up the pace in the last few minutes. However, the mystery that develops over whether Mike's friend is the good he thought, or a crook, is interesting.
