Cathy's royal engagement
JordanThomasHall23 April 2020
Kalmere "Kal" (Richard Caruso) of Buchanistan is a new student at school visiting America to learn its customs. He tells how he lives with his uncle under the same roof with 50 others and has never handled any money. Kal gifts Cathy an emerald-looking object that she politely says would make a good paperweight. Martin gets Kal a job as a copyboy at the newspaper office. Martin looks at Cathy's gift to believe the emerald to be real and learns Kal's full name, discovering he is the crowned price of Buchanistan. Natalie recalls his living conditions to realize it to be a palace with servants who handle money for him. His uncle is General Sureka (Daniel Ocko), the U.S. delegate to Buchanistan who comes to the Lane household with Kal's offer of marriage to Cathy. To the family's surprise, Cathy accepts. She details ideas that could be implemented to help the poverty-stricken people of Buchanistan. A different set of ideas may not be agreeable, however.
