If both your parents were famous and beguiling filmmakers, at some point you have to make a choice between turning your back on lineage to become a teacher or lawyer or something completely non-showbiz, or just embracing your genealogy and accepting the struggle to emerge from two very imposing shadows.
For Mathieu Demy there was never any doubt about which road he would take. He first appeared onscreen at age 5 in One Sings, the Other Doesn’t under the direction of his mother, Agnes Varda, and made his mark in his 20s as a man with AIDS in the musical Jeanne and the Perfect Guy. His father Jacques Demy had a way with musicals as well, having directed the immortal The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort, as well as Lola, Bay of Angels and Une Chambre en Ville.

Don’t ask her who’s the boss, but questions about her upcoming hosting gig are allowed as actress Alyssa Milano gets ready to get glam for Project Runway. Fashionistas take note! This little lady has signed the dotted line to host Lifetime’s popular design competition, Project Runway: All Stars.
All Stars is Project Runway‘s third venture. Production begins in New York this month in preparation for a fall premiere. It will bring with it familiar faces. Judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will return to greet their new host.
THR spread the word. We don’t know yet which designers will be competing for for this year’s crown, but if past winner Mondo Guerra and Anthony Ryan Auld are solid examples, then we can expect good things.
Each season of Project Runway has given audiences a new host. Angela Lindvall took season one and Carolyn Murphy...

Alyssa Milano and Nathan Fillion are in negotiations for the respective leads in two ABC pilots: the untitled Kristin Newman comedy and drama presentation Castle.
Additionally, Tom Hollander has joined CBS' drama presentation The Meant to Be's, and Aunjanue Ellis has come aboard ABC's drama pilot Prince of Motor City.
The untitled Newman project, from ABC Studios, is a single-camera comedy that centers on a thirtysomething woman (Milano) who tries to break free of her overbearing and dysfunctional family, friends and boss.
Charmed alumna Milano recurs on NBC's My Name Is Earl and is seen on the big screen in MGM's Pathology.
Milano, who recently starred in and produced the highly rated Lifetime movie Wisegal, is repped by CAA and attorney Bill Skrzyniarz.
Castle, from ABC Studios, is a comedic procedural about a famous mystery novelist (Fillion) helping the NYPD solve crimes.
Fillion recurs on ABC's Desperate Housewives and recently wrapped the feature Chilled in Miami.
Meant, from CBS Par, is a romantic drama about a young woman (Amy Smart) who dies, but in order to "pass over," she must return to Earth and help people improve their lives.

James Caan, who played mobster Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, has been bumped up to family don.
The actor has joined the cast of Lifetime's original movie Wisegal opposite Alyssa Milano and Jason Gedrick.
Meanwhile, Annie Potts has signed on to co-star opposite Nikki Blonsky in another Lifetime original movie, Queen Sized, which marks Potts' first project for the network since her drama series Any Day Now wrapped its run in 2002.
Wisegal, inspired by the true story of Patty Montanari, centers on a woman (Milano) who becomes a trusted confidante to the Mafia only to confront the heartbreaking reality that her romance with the captain (Gedrick) of a Brooklyn crime family has put her children in jeopardy.
Caan will play a mob boss, impressed with Patty's moxie, who persuades her to work for the organization -- at great personal risk -- as a courier transporting millions of dollars from Canada into the U.S.
Jerry Ciccoritti is directing from a script by Shelley Evans. The movie is executive produced by Daniel H.

Lifetime Networks has joined with Starz Media to produce original TV movies and distribute them internationally.
The co-production deal kicks off with three titles: True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet, starring singer JoJo and Valerie Bertinelli; Queen Sized, featuring Nikki Blonsky in her first starring role since Hairspray; and the previously announced Wisegal, which Jason Gedrick has come aboard to star in opposite Alyssa Milano. All three are set to air in 2008.
This is Lifetime's second major international co-production deal following the April announcement of its partnership with French broadcaster TF1 International. Lifetime president of entertainment Susanne Daniels said the network had learned that Starz executives were looking to do more original productions and decided to approach them about a partnership.
"They really sparked to these projects," Daniels said of the three movies. "So far it's a great working relationship. Hopefully it will lead to other projects together."
She added that the deal is "innovative" for Lifetime because the network will have co-ownership of the movies with Starz -- "It's the beginning of Lifetime building up a movie library" -- and that it's a different model from how Lifetime has produced its original movies in the past (since 1990, the network has produced 184 original movies).
