Since John Pope first appeared on “Falling Skies” in the series’ second episode, he has been one of the TNT show’s most fun and fascinating characters to watch. In an alien invasion apocalypse, he’s the bad boy looking out for number one, a cynical nuisance, a thorn in Tom Mason’s side. But he’s also been a vital member of the 2nd Mass, loyal to his gang, a badass alien killer, and he even has his heart of gold moments. He’s sometimes an anti-hero character we love to hate — whenever he’s causing trouble within the 2nd Mass as if a war against aliens isn’t trouble enough — but he also comes to reveal struggles and a past that makes him rather relatable. Played by Colin Cunningham, Pope got a love interest in season 4. Sara (Mira Sorvino) has changed Pope, and that’s clearer than ever in the most recent episodes.

Commonly known as the Chicago Comic-Con, Wizard World Chicago has just enjoyed its 30th gathering celebrating the American Mid-West's love for all things geek.
Among the guests was film and television veteran Colin Cunningham. While he may not be a household name, Colin has credits in works that sci-fi/fantasy fans will consider mandatory viewing, such as The X-Files, The Outer Limits, Dark Angel, Smallville, The 4400, Andromeda, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven and Arnie-starring The 6th Day, just to name a few.
Best recognised as Major Davis in Stargate Sg-1, Cunningham is re-establishing himself with his latest outing as the bad guy on TNT's hit series Falling Skies, as part of a cast also including Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy and Connor Jessup. Not to mention writing, directing and starring in his award-winning short film, Centigrade, which brought home hardware from multiple award shows.

In the heart of TNT’s latest hit show, Falling Skies, Colin Cunningham is the ladle that stirs the pot. His character, John Pope is one of the biggest draws of the show. He is TV’s latest can’t-miss character where he’s a slimy, selfish bastard one-minute and the most resourceful and street-smart survivalist the next. Cunningham is no stranger to genre shows having appeared on Andromeda, Stargate Sg-1, The Collector, and The 4400. Cunningham is also developing his award-winning short film (and 2009 Academy Award short list for nominations), Centigrade into a television show or future feature film with his producing partner Madison Graie. Centigrade was the first short film to break into the Top 10 featured downloads on iTunes. BuzzFocus caught up with Cunningham to talk about Falling Skies and his character, John Pope, the most interesting man left on the Earth. BuzzFocus: How do you like playing the loveable bad guy?...

Well, Falling Skies has launched, and the debut ratings were impressive. If you're like me, you took a shine to the character John Pope, and there is a lot of him coming up in the show, and with some interesting spins. Pope is played by Colin Cunningham, and I got a chance to talk to him recently about the show, shows generally, and his character. It was a great conversation, and I hope that translates (it usually doesn't quite work). For my money, a lot of the best hope of the continued success of the show comes down to how Pope figures into things, and I think Colin gives a fun, interesting, and layered performance that is worth watching.
Just because the show is so new, I'm going to include the official rundown on both the character and Cunningham before jumping right into the interview. Have fun.

Allow me to plug one for the home team here. Colin Cunningham’s Centigrade is a film that I like rather a lot. A film I like so much, actually, that I programmed it at the Worldwide Short Film Festival here in Toronto and then passed it on to my programming cohorts at Fantasia and Fantastic Fest who also liked it rather a lot and the film went on to win a whole lot of love at all three festivals. This is one of those tour de force sorts of moments, a single camera, single actor little film written by, directed by and starring Cunningham - a familiar character actor in the Canadian scene - as an abusive father trapped in a bewildering situation. The entire film is Cunningham’s descent into panic as he realizes exactly what the situation is and he has created an absolutely superb picture.
And now you can see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eJT7RnULa4 Independent Canadian filmmakers Colin Cunningham and Madison Graie are starting at ground zero of the Oscar race with their much-lauded short, Centigrade. Written by, directed and starring Cunningham (produced by Graie) there is already buzz for a feature. This still isn’t a guarantee that the film will be chosen by the voting Academy. They are [...]...
