I enjoyed the French twist of this series, the Bataclan club shooting in Paris, working under pressure that may lead to death, a lethal homophobic attack, are themes that feel all too current and real and are well represented. Apart from that, a recurrent theme of the series comes through here as well, the struggles and challenges a young woman faces when being in a position of authority that is traditionally associated with men and patriarchy. On the downside however, for the same reason I disliked the Spanish version of Criminal, the interrogation team, or at least some of it, feels very unprofessional, especially in the first 2 episodes, you get massive tantrums and inappropriate behavior, which bring down the quality of this concept.

The worse of the 4 criminal series

Fantastic !!!

Just like the German, Spanish and English versions this series is unbelievably good and it's just a shame that the episodes are so short and few. Hopefully they'll develop the concept into a longer series as we're only just getting to know the characters by the end of episode 3.
Great casting and storyline and eminently suitable for adaptation to the stage.

Lacks subtlety
tureluur-9917022 January 2022
It's interesting enough, and the setup is the same as the UK version: separate cases with a suspect in the interrogation room. But the French version of Criminal lacks the subtlety of the UK version, as do the Spanish and German versions. Besides, the acting isn't as good as in Criminal: UK.
One country had to come 4th

So out of the 4 identical police stations and resources. 3 episodes each and 4 different teams criminal: France struggled to keep up with its competitors with a weaker casting and perhaps a more bizarre storyline going on behind the secene of the said criminals etc.
You are left scratching your head because you believe one thing as happened then all of a sudden it's changed again.
However , the 3rd episode of the French set is one of the top 3 of them all and maybe on any given day the best so instead of a 7 it gets a 9 .
THIS happened to be the 4th I watched , i completed all 12 in 3 sittings. Very good viewing all round and a Netflix Original, please don't dump it after 1 series .

Good but not as good as it thinks it is

Warning: Spoilers
The concept of a 42 minute play in an interrogation room is simple and clever but doesn't allow for decent twists. And as an American it's interesting how useless a European attorney is.
Specific to episode 3: it was ironic they chose a native French guy to be the murderous homophobe, when in France today all of the gay bashing is from a... certain religious minority.
Brilliant yet not the best

I think after watching all the four countries, I would rate France the least , I mean someone had to come 4th! If you watch France first, no doubt you'll be mind blown but after watching UK and other nations , you can identify the flaws and drawbacks of the French cast but still a brilliant series by Netflix.
Brilliant , breathless and real..

Watch the entire UK serie, outstanding writing, acting, tension and plots !
Discovered that it was in 4 countries so i watched the first german and still the same feeling, what a strong first episode.
As a french guy myself i was enjoying the fact to watch in french and see what they have done.
What a disappointement ! First episode was okay even if i Sara Giraudeau voice is cringe worthy it was kind of well done. Second episode was a confirmation of some premises seen in the first : the two female actresses are extremely annoying and their acting is horrible ! Even Nathalie Baye was bad ! The group leader is not credible, she acts as if she was but nothing seems authentic. The second one acts completely crazy out of nowhere ! Those guys are supposed to be really accurate psychologists or having really good skills in human relationships and acts as amateurs ! They stopped interview yelling at suspects, are completely submerge by emotion everytime.. Compare to UK version there is a huge gap !
Will wait for other UK episodes and finish the German ones.
Quelle déception !

Terrible

Criminal UK is very good, I have seen all the episodes. For reasons that escape me the French version is lacking quality in every aspect: writing, casting, acting, directing, photography, editing... it's too bad. The French have much to learn from their British collègues.
Way worse than other 'Criminal:XX' series

Granted I watched it in English, but compared to other 'Criminal: XX' shows it's terribly written, badly acted and the characters are horrific. It's as if the series was put together by a drama class of a high school.
Not good.

Criminal Germany was outstanding. Especially the first episode was a class. Criminal france has plot holes bad writing the suspects traps them self for stupid reasons etc etc. Not good if second season please don't feed us bad writing again
