Netflix’s Baby Reindeer entered the streaming top 10 in mid-April, and given the continued buzz around the series, it’s likely to stay around for a while.
The show drew 673 million minutes of viewing for the week of April 15-21, according to Nielsen’s latest streaming rankings. That was good for third place among original series and ninth among all titles.
Prime Video’s Fallout had a second straight huge week, if not quite as big as its first. It had 2.62 billion minutes of watch time, off a slight 10 percent from its opening week, which was the best single week for a Prime Video show since Nielsen began its streaming rankings almost four years ago. It’s also the first show that doesn’t stream on Netflix to have back-to-back weeks above 2 billion minutes of viewing.

There are umpteen shows in the genre of family comedy-drama. Full House, Modern Family, That 70s Show, The Wonder Years, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc. are shows that cater to the above-mentioned genre, and each show is based on a different premise, yet the core remains the same: family members dealing with each other. The Upshaws is back with part five of the show, which further takes the viewers through the Upshaw family and the dilemmas they go through daily. Created by Regina Y. Hicks and Wanda Sykes from the start, part five of this Netflix original series was released on April 17, 2024.

Exclusive: Netflix has picked up another installment of its popular multi-camera comedy series The Upshaws. The blue-collar sitcom created by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes has been renewed for a 10-episode fourth season.
After the 10-episode first season, Seasons 2 and 3 of The Upshaws have been released in two parts — of eight and six episodes each, respectively — so the renewal is for Part 6 of the series, as officially referred to by Netflix.
Production on the 10-episode new season, which will be released in one batch, will begin next year. The six-episode Part 5 of The Upshaws (second half of Season 3), is slated to premiere in spring 2024.

It might officially be fall, but Netflix had a “Strong Black Summer.”
At least, that was the name of the streamer’s warm-weather months campaign promoting a string of TV, film and documentary projects fronted by Black talent.
Among the hot titles were Gabrielle Union’s rom-com “The Perfect Find,” the John Boyega-starring conspiratorial caper “They Cloned Tyrone,” a fourth season of the Emmy-nominated comedy “The Upshaws,” comedian Michelle Buteau’s semi-autobiographical series “Survival of the Thickest,” the “Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop” documentary, and a first look at awards contenders “Stamped from the Beginning” and “Rustin.”

Suits extended one streak on the streaming TV charts for Aug. 14-20, but another one came to a close.
The legal drama, which streams on Netflix and Peacock, was the top title in Nielsen’s weekly rankings for the ninth consecutive week. It more than doubled the viewing time total of its the second-place show, Netflix’s Painkiller.
The total viewing time for Suits, however, dipped below 3 billion minutes for the first time since the week of June 19-25 — to a still very strong 2.84 billion minutes. The series had set a Nielsen record for the most consecutive weeks over 3 billion minutes of viewing at seven; only two other shows (Outer Banks and The Night Agent) have hit that mark in 2023, and for only one week each.
Painkiller led the original series top 10 with 1.12 billion minutes of watch time, while the prior week’s leader, The Lincoln Lawyer, slipped to second place with 768 million minutes.

NBC took a big swing in 2023 in not only reviving Night Court but in bringing it back with the aim of returning to the classic sitcom style.
Seriously, how long has it been since we've heard a proper laugh track? An entire generation of TV viewers has never experienced the joy of a well-timed pratfall shared with a hundred faceless "live studio audience" members. It's a darned shame, it is.
That big swing connected with audiences and ratings, and NBC renewed the fledgling series a scant few weeks after its premiere in January. But with that jaw-dropping, game-changer finale, where will they go with Season 2?
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Night Court Season 1 Episode 16.
With the universal agreement that John Laroquette is the comedic foundation upon which the revival is built, it came as a shock on the finale when he follows through on his intention to leave Manhattan for a judgeship in Louisiana.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the Season 4 finale of “The Upshaws,” now streaming on Netflix.
Season 4 of Netflix’s “The Upshaws” left everybody in the family ready to switch roles with each other if it meant saving themselves from their recently upended lives. The family dynamics have changed as Lucretia (Wanda Sykes) finds herself in financial trouble, Regina (Kim Fields) moves back into the family home after taking time to heal mentally and physically following her brush with death, and Bennie (Mike Epps) realizes he’s continued to neglect his eldest son, Bernard Jr. (Jermelle Simon).
After selling his valuable baseball card collection, Bennie uses the money to buy his middle children Aaliyah (Khali Spraggins) and Kelvin (Diamond Lyons) a new car to teach them how to drive — and accomplish a new milestone as teens. His generous gesture is extended to his younger kids, as he buys gifts for them as well.

The editors for the Hulu sketch comedy series, “History of the World: Part II,” had experience from all over the map but little in terms of sketch comedy. For George Mandl, Angel Gamboa Bryant and Daniel Flesher most of their past experience comes from half-hour and multi-camera comedies and variety programming like stand-up specials. But the presence of showrunners Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen served as a massive help in the editing process. “When we got in the edit bay and got the chance to work with them, if we asked a question about a scene or we wanted to try something, they’d say ‘Try it. Let’s see.’ Every time it elevated the scene,” Bryant tells Gold Derby during our recent web chat (watch the exclusive video interview above).
