Wait, um, what? How do you make a sequel to a movie that ended with the main character sinking to the bottom of the ocean? Well, leave it up to those nuts over at The Asylum to even attempt something as hilarious as Titanic 2, which, as you can tell from the title of this post, actually has a trailer you can watch and laugh at. Never heard of The Asylum before? Well, they're a production company who specialize in making really cheap (and cheesy) knock-offs of films to capitalize on the more popular film with the similar name. In the past they've been responsible for movies like Paranormal Entity, Transmorphers: Fall of Man, Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, 100 Million BC, Snakes on a Train and Pirates of Treasure Island. Hilarious, right? And so are their movies! Hilariously bad, that is. So...

The thought of a sequel to Titanic has always been something to laugh about. It's a sequel that no one expected to get made, but thanks to The Asylum, we now have a Titanic 2! The Asylum is a direct-to-dvd production company responsible for producing incredibly bad knock-off films of some big budget Hollywood movies such as, The Terminators, Street Racer, Sunday School Musical, Transmorphers, Transmorphers 2: Fall of Man, Snakes on a Train, I Am Omega, Da Vinci Treasure, Temple of the Skulls, Hg Wells’ War of the Worlds, Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, Monster, and Pirates of Treasure Island.
They have now completed production on Titanic 2. On the 100th anniversary of the original voyage, a modern luxury liner christened “Titanic 2,” follows the path of its namesake. But when a tsunami hurls an ice berg into the new ship’s path, the passengers and crew must fight to avoid a similar fate.

It's a big week for "versus" films as we have Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (on Blu-ray solo and also in a two-pack with 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea), and The Navy vs. the Night Monsters. In addition a couple of other dual releases bow on May 18th: Book of Lore/Grave Mistakes and Invasion of Carol Enders/Come Die With Me.
Other promising possibilities include Freakshow, described as "a gory nod to Tod Browning's 1932 horror cult classic Freaks", Hard Ride to Hell (who doesn't love biking devil worshipers?), Haunting of Winchester House (which bills itself as a terrifying true story), Mutant Vampire Zombies From the Hood (the title alone has me sold!), Southern Gothic starring genre fave William Forsythe (it promises to combine arthouse and grindhouse for a ferocious new spin on vampire horror), and Tokyo Gore Police Version 1.5, which includes a bonus disc of follow-up short films.

Titanic 2 is one of those jokes that everyone has made at sometime over the past decade. It's the one sequel no one expects will ever be made. There was even a great mock trailer produced four or five years ago. Guess what.. someone has just completed principal photography on Titanic 2, and it isn't James Cameron. The Asylum, the direct-to-dvd production company responsible for producing cheap knock-offs of the latest big budget Hollywood movies (termed "Knockbusters) has just finished production on Titanic 2. For those of you not following along, The Asylum's past titles include: The Terminators, Street Racer , Sunday School Musical , Transmorphers, Transmorphers 2: Fall of Man, Snakes on a Train, I Am Omega, Da Vinci Treasure, Temple of the Skulls, Hg Wells' War of the Worlds, Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, Monster (the Cloverfield rip) and Pirates of Treasure Island. So what is Titanic 2 about? Here is the official ...

In a move that everyone saw coming, one major studio has finally become wise to the knock-off (er, "tie-in") movies released by The Asylum, and activated their horde of legal defense dogs to put an end to it.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news last night that 20th Century Fox has taken "legal action against the Asylum, firing off a cease-and-desist letter and hiring litigation lawyers to go after the prolific purveyor of high-end, low-budget knockoffs of Hollywood blockbusters." Horror fans have known about The Asylum for years, as the one-stop shop for familar-sounding fare like Snakes On A Train, When A Killer Calls, Avh: Alien Vs. Hunter, and Halloween Night. A quick glance at an IMDb talkback for any of their titles reveals many viewers asking "how can they do that?", and obviously Fox doesn't think they can.
