NOT a reality show !!
rob_musgrove18 October 2019
I would like to point out from the very start that this is anything but a reality show, only on the lose concept..

It is a show that gives out life skills to trainees, progressing chefs, chefs that have fallen out of love with cooking, chefs that are stuck in a rutt and most importantly, growing as people/humans...

The Chefs' Brigade is one of the most realistic programs that shows the running of a kitchen from the very bottom to the very top.. and how each role within the kitchen is as important as everyone else..

The people who want the "who goes this week" rubbish should move on... it's far more than that..

I won't give away any spoilers about the show.. what I will say is that it's a must for any budding chef..

My 1 issue with the show, is that it never made a follow up.. I would of liked to of seen all of the chefs and what they were up to after the show had finished..

The Doomed Brigade but one hell of a good try

Warning: Spoilers
The idea you could improve food at a michelin restaurant with a team of novice cooks. Jason talks about the strain of producing a strong team and program has a mixed bunch of people with a task that could only be described as high presure enviroment. Jason uses tough love to get the best out of them, this is what the cooking at this level is sometimes. When you cook recipes you need time to master them and some challenges are just too hard. Their was one challenge that I thought was just impossible to lean in that time the fluffy donuts in spain seems so simple but two cooks failed. The young cooks could but only fail and I don't think any of the team could have done it as perfect as the chefs from the restaurant did that they were competing against, the sub chef superviser tried but could not master it. There was just one single fryer that could only cook two donuts at a time and the mixture if not made 100% correct the right and correct tempriture would just not work and with everybody stopped and watching him the chef cracked but manage to send out doughnuts that were greasy due to overloading fryer. Top restarants spend months developing recipes and some were improved by jasons knowlege, others were already perfect, he had great ideas of how he can improve dishes and is a top chef. I think 1 srike your out cooking is harsh but his team should get better. Maybe the team cooked perfect food when practising and the sous chefs and jason helped them. I think in the next episode they should get better but that depends on complexity of the dishes. when you watch masterchef au only one in three can make near perfect copy of a pro dish. On the finnal two episodes you see warmer side to jasons sous chefs and they really help brigade but it was a imposible task to beat the finnal restaurant which was world class. Overall he failed to produce a world class team in such a short time but some managed to inprove others just learned to wash dishes. The food in final episode was just too messy as finesse was the difference. I was amazed by the scollop dish was beatiful looking like a pinecone. I think they only started to feel like a team in last episode too many individual bossing each other up till that point.

Not much cooking, not a real contest
welleran-564-60976929 August 2019
Strangely, very little actual cooking is shown in this. Also, the "contestants" are moved from role to role in the kitchen, and let go, for maximum drama rather than for any cooking skill or lack thereof.

The premise that a group of cooking-newbs (even working under an amazing chef) could come into a restaurant and. in the course of two-days time. learn to cook an assortment of the award winning restaurant's own specialties better than the originals is ridiculous. It's simply not credible.

Either the selected restaurant was not so great to begin with (making a victory trivial) or the "victory" is a lie. Neither answer is good for the viewer.

This show fails on all counts.
