They saved the best for last.

Having tracked Albie down, Douglas and he have a lot of things to get off their chests.

I really did enjoy the previous trio of episodes, I wasn't expecting to be as touched or moved by the final part, this truly was an exceptional hour of drama.

So many wonderful scenes, plenty to make you think, and tug at the heart strings, but nothing beats the scene where Father and Son sit down to talk.

It's been a long time since I found myself not wanting a drama to end, this was that good. 10/10.

Absolutely loved this show!

Us turned out to be such a delightful surprise! The acting was superb by all & loved the cinematography. One problem however...we recorded the show twice as, for some reason, PBS cut off the very final ending, so we're still not sure how it ended?? Very upsetting. It said it was 2 hours, but obviously it ran over. What was the final ending? Did Tom Hollander eventually go to the woman he met and Saskia Reeves go off with the tall guy or quiz master? Or did they just split & remain friends? So frustrated..... Great show though! Their son played a great part.

Warning: Spoilers
The final episode of Us has Douglas tracking his son Albie in Barcelona and managing to get some kind of understanding with him.

I know some people have issues in the way Albie is portrayed. I think the actor is just showing a confused, stroppy 17 year old who wants to make his own way in the world. Unsure whether he knows it all or not but realises that he will make mistakes along the way. Still you can understand that the parents will worry.

Douglas discovers that despite the attractive girlfriends that Albie attracts, he is gay.

As for Douglas, he suffers a heart attack after getting jellyfish stings while swimming in the sea.

Connie comes to Spain as Douglas recuperates but is this enough to rescue their marriage?

I understand a lot of Connie's story was cut out in the television adaptation of the novel. The producers decided that it was easier to concentrate on Douglas's journey. His lack of spontaneity, his stiffness and lack of warmth to his son. I think Tom Hollander did well to display Douglas's flaws. A good man who got lost somewhere in adulthood.

The series did improve as it rambled around Europe. I do think this would had been a poor story if was just set in Britain. There is not getting away that this was still middle class naval gazing.

Nice scenery.

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this series was ok, not as special as some others did. This last part had some particularly annoying aspects: Douglas getting off the train for a bite to eat and losing his belongings was so obvious and, well, annoying. After his stay in the Spanish hospital he couldn't fly for two weeks. But, hey, there are trains between Spain and England. I know he was probably written that way, and played as such, but I wouldn't have wanted to be around Douglas for long either. Disappointing, and I'm afraid Freya is in for a letdown.
